Chapter 54

Adam knew that the girls wanted some space to have their girly discussions and so he grabbed his toothbrush and other necessities and got out just in time to find Rishab who stood in front of their tent with his arms crossed over his chest.


Rishab watched the guy who had dared to put his hands on Madhu crawl out of his tent and stand up. He stuck one booted foot out, directly in Adam's path, when he moved to pass him. "Going somewhere?"


Adam glanced up surprised. "Um... brushing my teeth?"


"Um-hmm." He took a bite of the candy bar he had been enjoying, slowly chewing it as he watched the other man. "There a reason you picked Madhu for that little dare?" The way he was kissing his Madhu, he didn't look gay to him.


Adam frowned and took a seat next to Rishab. "Rishab, you do know I am gay right?" He paused waiting for some kind of acknowledgement. But when Rishab didn't show any sign of understanding, he continued, "If I were to kiss someone out of my own free will and not because it was a dare, I would rather kiss you than your woman."


You kissed the woman I want, you little prick? Rishab silently railed. "Kissing Madhu is a sure way to get on my bad side. Gay or not."


Adam shrugged. "Madhu and I are just good friends. She's cool about it and Rishab don't go all murderous on me because of this, it was just a game."


Rishab turned and smacked the back of Adam head. "Why don't you go brush your teeth? We've got a long day tomorrow. And just for the record, you get a pass this time. Gay or not, Game or not you don't kiss Madhu. Got it?"


"Yeah," Adam said and teasingly added, "that's what I was intending to do before you came up with your jealous interrogation."


Rishab stood up and glared at the other man.


"So... I hope you are making the most of the few days you have together. Getting to know her better. But from what I have seen I can tell you two would do just fine."


"What makes you think the two of us would get along so well?"


Adam shrugged. "Don't know, man. You have this... f**k, I don't know. It just seems to me like you guys would fit really well together. Besides Madhu's pretty much the greatest girl I know, man. She's doesn't complain about broken nails, she knows she's beautiful without make up, she can do anything for her friends, she likes to have fun, she's fit and sporty AND of course she's super sexy. What more can a guy want?"


Rishab nodded and waved Adam off. "Weren't you gonna go brush your teeth?" Sending Adam to take care of his business and he sat back down. He glanced at Madhu's tent and wished that she didn't have company because he'd have been more than ready to join her after this conversation. He wanted to know everything about her. Every little bit.

Deepali slouched down in the most comfortable armchair in the living area, propping her foot up on the duvet and sighing as the atmosphere settled around her. The silence of the cabin was so welcome after the past few days of listening to Madhu and her friends. God, what a bunch of losers! What could Rishab possibly have seen in her? She was never going to understand why he enjoyed spending time with them.

The silver tray next to her was filled with an assortment of fruits blueberries, cherries and grapes. She reached for the remote and aimed it at the television, hitting the power button and flipping channels before she found a fashion related program.


She had been back at the local hospital that afternoon for a follow-up after her visit the day before and the doctor seemed satisfied that hers injury wasn't serious. She was content with the man's professional opinion and she took it as a sign that she could now enjoy her vacation in a manner that suited her.


Deepali's gaze wandered to her cell and dialed the number of her father's cell. She wasn't sure if Sikander had called her father and informed him about her accident. Since he has been back down, he seems a little quiet, like he has a lot on his mind. Maybe because Harpreet was called away almost immediately and all his plans to spend time with her had gone down the drain.Anyway she decided to call her father up personally and let him know she was already back down from the climb.


"Hey, Dad," Deepali greeted her father.


"I'm fairly certain cell reception is nonexistent on the mountain, so I can only assume that you are calling from the cabin; are you alright?"


"Yeah, I'm fine. I had a little accident up there and they had to bring me down 'cause my leg's sprained, but I'm good. Don't worry."


"An accident? I want the name of the guide who allowed that to happen," he demanded. "I'll have him fired immediately!"


"No, no, no, Dad," she assured her father. "Actually, it was my own fault. They did tell us weren't allowed to go past the marked boundaries but I did because I lost my glove during a storm."


"Well in that case tell the guide who rescued you that I'll make sure that he is rewarded well for saving your life."


Deepali wasn't sure if she should tell him that it was Rishab for whom she had gone on that wretched climb for and it was Rishab who saved her too. She was about to tell him the truth but decided against it. "He won't take any money. I already asked him, but he said it's his job."


"Alright then. Tell that brother of yours to take good care of you or else... love you, sweetie. Take care of yourself and I'll see you soon."


"Bye." Deepali hung up and turned to the TV again. She glanced at her watch. 6pm. Where the hell is Sikander? She would wait another hour for him and if he still didn't turn up she would then head over to the lodge to have dinner.
