Chapter 33

Could that woman's timing be any worse? he wondered as he moved back over to the other side of the tent to retrieve the radio. "This's Rishab," he barked into the mouthpiece. "Hey," the woman replied, irritated at his tone, "I just wanted to see if you're okay up there? I heard about what happened."

Madhu sat up, listening as the woman talked to Rishab. What exactly was his relationship with this woman?

"Nah, we're all good up here. Tucked in for the night and just waiting the storm out." Damn it, how was he gonna get her off the radio before Madhu changed her mind? "Oh, okay, good. Will this extend your return back home?"

Home? Madhu thought, alarmed. That wasn't just any woman and why did she sound familiar?

"We'll have to take a day on since we lost a lot of climbing time today due to the storm." "Alright, call me when you get back, okay? And watch yourself."

"Will do. Call ya later." He tossed the radio aside and turned to look at Madhu, wincing when he saw her retreating.

Suddenly Madhu remembered the voice. "That's the guide from yesterday, right? Kapoor?" "Yeah," he answered slowly. "We had a... thing... it wasn't anything serious." But he knew it wouldn't matter.

She nodded. "Well, she's kinda your type, huh?" She tried to act cool, to downplay her hurt and embarrassment over thinking that she and Rishab could actually be together. "Madhu, she's just a girl I've hooked up with on occasion... it's not serious and it doesn't mean anything. We..."

She shook her head. "You don't have to explain anything to me, Rishab. It's okay. Really." She forced a little smirk. "But you should probably explain it to her eventually because if it's not serious and doesn't mean anything she shouldn't be calling to check on you."

"Madhu..," he growled trying to have his say.

"Hey," she gently laid a hand on his arm. "No matter what this girl was or is for you, it's none of my business and you have every right to hook up with someone or love someone." Her own words hurt like hell, but who was she to flip out over that girl?

"Hell, Madhu, it was a hook up, not a pledge of eternal love." He sighed and shook his head. "I don't want you reading anymore into this because it didn't mean anything. It was just sex, nothing else. Anyway we do not hook up any more and are just friends. Just. Good. Friends."

She crawled back into her sleeping bag. "Okay," she replied quietly. "You don't believe me," he mused. "No, I do," she said truthfully.

He bit his bottom lip uncertainly. "But I'm guessing you're not gonna invite me over to finish what we started before that call came in."

She looked at him for several long seconds before she shook her head slowly.

"Does this change things between you and me?" he asked surprising her. "I think so," she replied honestly. How could she pretend nothing had happened? That would just be lying to herself.

Rishab pulled a couple of his shirts on and stretched out to rest his head on the pack again.

Was he jumping the gun? he wondered. Taking things too fast and not really thinking through what was best for her? "I know we need to talk about a lot of things and I know I am not the most eligible bachelor in town like everybody thinks, but..." He wanted so badly to tell her he was worth the risk, but he didn't completely believe that himself.

She smiled slightly when he considered that they maybe had a chance together. But she knew she had to get her priorities straight first. "Hey, Rishab, you think you can just hold me a little while? No talking or ya know... anything."

"Can I come over there? I'd rather not be in her sleeping bag while I'm holding you." She nodded and moved around to make some space.

He grabbed one of his shirts and helped her into it before lying down next to her and pulling her into his arms. He flipped the top of the sleeping bag over them and closed his eyes as she snuggled into his embrace.

"I really hope the weather won't stay this way for long," Abby complained and rested her back on one of the packs in the tent. "I'm not even really tired yet and it's only like 7pm."

Adam tried to get a little more comfortable as well. "Yeah, I've read that it can stay this way for hours, or even worse, days. That would really suck." "Seriously? Days?" She sighed heavily.

Akash opened the zipper of the tent and peaked in and was surprised to see Adam and Abby in there with Sikander. "Oh hey, what are you guys doing here?" "I could say the same to you." Abby replied furrowing her eyebrows. "Actually I came to check on Sikander. I was pretty sure he would be worried about his sister." "He was. But Abby gave him something to calm his nerves and soon he dozed off," Adam pointed to the heap in the corner where Sikander lay.

Akash noticed Abby move again trying to find a comfortable position. "The climb up here was pretty exhausting during the storm, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, that wind made it difficult there for a while. We took a pretty good beating out there, getting thrown up against the side of the mountain." He glanced at her, noticing that she was having trouble getting comfortable. "Your back bothering you?"

"Yeah, it hurts," she whined a little more than necessary. Akash scooted a little and looked at her. "I could give you a backrub," he offered, hoping he didn't sound too eager.

Abby smirked inwardly; she had known he would make the offer. "Yeah, sounds great." "Assume the position." He grinned and shook his head. Damn, was it just him or had that sounded downright filthy?

Oh great, I think they forgot that Sikander and I exist. Well looking at Sikander, with what Abby gave him he could sleep through Armageddon. But what about me? And hell I am going outside in this storm.

"Here Abby take this pain killer and you should be just fine. And I have something for your back." Adam interrupted feigning concern and worry in his voice and actions. He just was in no mood to either watch the romance sequence nor did he want to step outside in the storm to give them some privacy.

Adam turned away from Abby as quickly as he could before she could read his face and realise what he is upto. He pulled one of the packs closer, unzipping the pockets searching for something that he could ease her sore back and finally pulled something out. "Here it is. Emergency Hand Warmers!!" he exclaimed. "Where's the worst of it? Upper or lower back?" Abby wasn't sure if Adam was being genuine in his concern or he had a plan in the working. Finally too tired to think she let it go. "Lower," she mumbled extremely agitated with Adam's interruption.

He lifted one of the packets he had taken from the pack and ripped it open with his teeth, shaking the contents out and reaching under her shirt to place the small warming pad against her back. He repeated the process again, hoping the heat would help ease her pain. "I should restore Deepali's hand warmers first thing tomorrow before she realises that I took it from her pack. Better?" he asked as he tugged her shirt back down over the warming pads.

"Awesome," she said sarcastically but inwardly enjoying the warmth. "No more jokes about the emergency hand warmers." she stated. "Huh?" Akash asked, slightly disheartened with the turn of events. She went on to tell him how she had given Adam shit about his decision to add hand warmers to their list of purchases when they had picked their gear up.

What is it with the heroines refusing to hear out the hero? And the hero is always scared to reveal that he loves the heroine.

But I enjoyed reading this. And Adam was just šŸ˜†

Thanks for the PM.

Yes the story revolves around Rishab and Madhu, but since this is a FF and not a SS, there have to be additional supporting characters, each of which have a role to play. Im sorry you feel that Rishbala are getting sidelined but As mentioned in one of my earlier Pm's i will be getting rid of some of the supporting characters. How? I am still working on that. But hopefully that will help with the situation.

Man is a man is a man... Men do not talk feelings usually ... They talk lust, need and want.
Rishab has been doing the casual dating thing for a long time. Though he doesn't seem to be commitment phobic YET (that's a big yet) he still has problems with talking about feelings.

Men out there, this is just a general observation, and in no way am I extending this generalisation to every man out there.
