Hello there. I am again back with an OS. Its a continuation of my previous os(mine forever), but can be read as a stand alone OS as well. Looking forward to your comments. Apologies in advance for any spelling grammar mistakes. Its long, will try to reduce the length later.
Promise of Happiness
Part - 1
RK whistled to himself when he walked out of the room. He inhaled, madhu's turmeric aroma which still surrounded him. Hope was bubbling inside his heart and he almost hopped while getting down the stairs.
"Good evening, Bitoojee". RK can not help giving him a warm smile and wish on the way.
Bitoojee stared at him for few seconds form downstairs with a amused look before replying with a good news.
"Chief, Inspector had called. They have got some evidence about the killer it seems."
RK's senses sharpened in a jiffy and the smile from his face vanished. He peered at Bitoojee and waited for him to divulge more information.
"They are finalizing on the formalities and will arrest the suspect tomorrow morning". Bitoojee is all excited about this new development.
"Once they get hold of him, you just see chief, I will make him regret the day he is born. He dared to touch our RK". He went on cursing the suspect brushing off the fact that, RK is paying least attention to his rants now.
RK was in deep thought. So malik was stupid enough to leave a clue behind. After the talk with madhu on the other day, RK has started admiring the fact that Malik is selfless man who lived for his daughters. His thoughts drifted towards Madhu. She is unlucky enough to get me as her patidev. And now, she is gonna have a killer father too. No, I can never let that happen. RK left the room trying to hold in the various emotions bubbling inside him.
"The inspector might have already left to arrest the suspect". Bittojee's muttered to himself in his charged up mood.
Hours later, Door bell rang at RK's home. Radha who was silently chanting ganesh mantra's was startled by this sudden intrusion. She continued chanting shrugging away her irritation. A maid opened the door and was greatly surprised to see a bunch of police officers and shamseer. Everyone except madhu and RK gathered around the hall within minutes. Radha, who finished her meditation was the last to join.
"What happened Inspector?" Radha was shocked to see a handcuffed Shamseer.
Unaware of the happening in the hall, madhu was busy consoling padmini over the phone.
"Ma, stop crying and tell me what happened?"
"What!!! Police arrested Malik? Why? Locket?"
Madhu was crestfallen hearing the news and she burst into uncontrollable sobs. The thought of shamseer as a killer was unbearable to her. She dropped the phone and sat down on her knees. She closed her eyes to let the wave of sorrow to reside. She remembered how Malid evaded the questions on the missing locked while she was trimming his hair.
In the hall, Inspector filled in Radha and the other inmates about the charges on shamseer who was standing with his head down. Radha eyed him with hatred as the Inspector poured in more details of his speculations about the killing plans. Bittoojee was speechless and an unknown sadness creeped in his eyes while listening to the inspector. Inspector stopped midway to see madhubala climbing down the stairs slowly and then resumed his narration.
Shamseer looked at a unusually calm madhu with puffy eyes and their eyes met. What he saw, pierced a dagger into his heart. He clearly saw the accusation in her eyes, he saw the pieces of broken trust. He lowered his eyes in shame fervently wishing to undone the past. He could feel the hatred coming from each and every person in the room towards him, but it hardly bothered him. The only thing mattered to him was Madhu and her disappointment in him.
"So we came here to take RK's statement" The Inspector finished the narration and an uncanny silenced wrapped the room.
"Arrey wah Inspector saab, what a story! I loved it. I can use it for my next home production if you give me permission." RK, with his magnanimous look, is climbing down the stairs clapping his hands. Everyone including Shamseer was dismayed to see the smirk on his face.
Part - 2
"This is my sasurjee and you are saying that he tried to kill me!!!.What an amazing investigation you did". RK mocked the inspector in his usual sarcastic way.
"We have solid evidence against this person. We found his locket near your ICU cabin. No one was allowed in there except your wife." Inspector replied meekly.
RL laughed and in that silent room, his laughter echoed maddeningly.
"If this is the evidence you have now, then shall I present my point, judge sahab?" RK addressed everyone as if he is facing the judge.
RK continued with his well-chosen words. "He is my sasurjee and he had come to meet me in the ICU to apologize to me for all his wrongdoings in the past, so the locket might have fallen down somewhere and you assumed he is the killer, because you found the locket? kamaal hai Inspector!!! I know the killer is not Sasurjee. I have seen the killer and he in no way looks like sasurjee. Here I rest my case."
The inspector looked all riled up and tried to protest in vain. RK dismissed him and his arguments with a shrug. Before leaving Inspector removed the hand cuff from shamseer's hand.
Once the house is clear of police, RK glanced at madhu and his heart skipped a beat. Madhu was peering at Malik looking for a sign of innocence. RK's heart sank. She is not convinced. She still thinks its her malik who is the killer. RK breathed heavily remembering the passionate moment between him and madhu hours before. Her eyes, hey lips, all made his heart swell in love. He remembered the silent promise his heart muttered, the promise of happiness.
"Drama over and curtains down..haina biwi". RK smirked at madhu mustering all his resolve.
"That makes level 1 of my revenge game. Haina Bittoojee" RK keep staring madhu motioning his hand towards Bittojee. Madhu is still not looking at him.
"After all its RK's plan and how can it go down the drain, my dear biwi" And with this he got madhu's attention and madhu turned.
"What do you think biwi? I have married you to give a happily-ever-after-life? ha, please come down from those day dreams. How can I forget my past affairs with my biwi so soon." He came closer and give a lopsided smile while madhu stand there confounded.
"Well I played the same tricks and got shamseer into police custody. It was my plan to place the locket near the ICU cabin so that the hospital crew get it. You could not even deduce that using your pea sized brain. My poor biwi". Again a hard laugh from the man of the house and tears started rolling down madhu's cheeks.
"Now, I have had enough fun with this. If sasujee goes to jail, then, that will be the end and there will not be any level 2".RK made up a mocking sad face.
"Biwi how was my karva chaut gift? Wait for more baby" He jeered and no one understood the hollowness his voice. Dips was giving a victory smile to him and that flipped him off. Enough RK. He chided himself.
Radha, who was a silent observer, stepped in and shook RK violently "What madness you are saying? I thought you mellowed down and you do not hate my madhu any more. what have you done to malik and madhu!". Her anger had no bounds.
"Then I guess you do not understand me, lady. Well what else can I expect from a mother who ditched my father for some crook..." RK could not finish the sentence and with a jerk Radha pulled herself back from RK and left the room leaving a now confused RK behind.
"ENOUGH" Madhu screamed. "Today you insulted not only my father, but also your mother, RK" Madhu uttered with a clenched teeth.
"You are a beast and in my foolishness I thought I can find a human in you.I can find a soul in you. I am wrong". Her pitch was low, but voice was fierce and firm.
"You think you have won this game? You think you will make me fold my hands in front of you one day because all this? You are mistaken RK. You don't know madhu, I have been born to hate you and there will be a day when your ego bites dust. I swear" The tigress in her growled.
Bittojee eyed both RK and Madhu and asked the crowd to disperse in a hurry.
Madhu's eyes emanated pure hatred and RK involuntarily flinched inwardly. Sorrow thickened in his throat and he remained silent trying to manage a crooked smile on his face.
Madhu turned and rushed to malik to give him a warm hug. "Malik, I will never forgive myself that because of me you have to go through all this humiliation" Madhu broke down and tightened her hug. "But I am happy malik that you are not'..." She again broke into sobs.
Shamseer did not return the hug. He stared RK with teary eyes. He could not believe what happened in the room minutes before. He could not believe the person whom he wanted to kill reversed his future in a minute.
Tears rolled down his cheeks and he folded his hands in front of RK. He closed his eyes in gratitude and madhu looked up to see only his agitated face and her anger towards RK rise a notch. RK slightly moved his head ignoring his gesture of gratitude.
"Now end the Papa-beti show as well. RK does not like rona dhona much". RK mockingly added before he went into the entertainment room. He left the door ajar and started playing Mr India CD again. He stared into the random space in front of him as a sense of lose creeps in. A lone tear fell down from his eyes. I know what it is to loose a father. Madhu should never loose her father.
Bittoojee, who silently followed him, looked lovingly at the lone figure who is crouched near the sofa. He turned back to see a father-daughter duo engaged in a warm hug all smiles - a gift of happiness from the beast. He smiled.
