Diction.
Diction, the clarity of speech, formal, informal, mannerisms of the verbal expression when present in right doses makes the dialogue so lovely to hear. Its so pleasing to the ears !
I always found that between Vivian Dsena's and Drashti Dhami's dialogue delivery, Vivian's was qualitative delivery as compared to Dhrashti's.
Without much caring to who wants to bash me, ban me, report me or whatever battles this post is gonna start, but without any intended offence to either of the leads, I am making an independent judgment of mine. Some may agree and some may not. But I am sure the Hindi speaking States populace will agree with me that I am right.
How?
Listen carefully all VD dialogues. His hindi is perfect when he speaks out.
When an actor has command over language, he tends to correct the script thrust in his hand, which obviously may have been written in hurry improvised n number of times. When VD delivers his dialogues, his conversation style, sticks to addressing in the same manner. If he started out with Aap, he continues with Aap in same viein. His sentences are complete, with correct emphasis on words and correct grammatical expression. Overall effect is beautiful. He delivers all kinds of meaning in attitiudes with the way he speaks out. The taunts, the anger, the sneer, the arrogance, the normalcy, the stubbornness...All of this without too much of effort with eyes.
VD makes RK character successful through sheer dialogue delivery with excellent diction.
In contrast Dhrasti Dhami, her dialogues are sometimes lost on my ears. I mean I put speakers on and have to listen hard to understand what she is saying, Why? Some people like me, cannot piece the information together until and unless it is said in a correct manner. Lot of DD dialogues have grammatical errors. She often starts with respectful manner of addressing soon dwindling into Mumbaiya Hindi. Now will most not agree with me that Mumbai Hindi is not one of the greatest Hindi ? How DD makes up for lack of diction ? Through her expression, particularly her eyes, But even then I sometimes feel, those beautiful eyes need backing of good verbatim.
I was like why this difference between the leads.😕 VD is not even a Hindi name to begin with ! Then I remembered Tom Alter😆 the American Indian resident actor, he speaks excellent Hindi and has good command over Hindi language. Excellent diction for which he was one of the loved actors in yesteryears of Doordarshan.😊
So this is what I got to know now, VD grew up in Ujjain. 😆Central India. Hindi belt. Obviously, he will know Hindi with ease. If not as sweet as Kanpur Hindi or poetic Hindi of Lucknow, very grounded one, deep enough from ancient time.
On the other hand DD is Mumbaite and has excellent command over English owing to her convent education. And her interviews are something to remember by. I am actually fan of her interviews and I enjoy them more than her acting prowess in the soaps. Here you can completely discard VD. He comes out so impatient in the interviews. I liked only the football one owing to the male gang camaraderie on the soccerfield.
So cutting short my digression, let me wind up the post.
Rahguvir Shekhawat is the dialogue writer for both Madhubala and Balika Vadhu. In BV again, most actors speak good Hindi. So that's the reason I will not say Shekhawat does not have grip on Hindi grammer.
Once again, requesting readers to take it in stride. Its been just an observation. I love the leads and show anyways.
