After Pulkit Samrat moved the court against Ekta Kapoor's production house Balaji Telefilms Limited, actor Vikas Manaktala, who is known for playing the character Huda in the TV serial, Left Right Left has won the first round in the Bombay High Court against producer couple Tony and Deeya Singh's production house DJ's Creative Unit on Friday.

The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to DJ's Creative Unit and Tony and Deeya Singh. Justice D G Karnik directed the producer duo to remain present in court on June 24 after Vikas filed an arbitration petition against the producers and the production house. "Let him (Vikas) provide service to other production houses...let him work outside till the final order is passed," Justice Karnik observed, while issuing notices to the respondents.

"Although I had entered into a contract with the production house in last May, I have not been called to work for the serial since November 9, 2007. The company is not allowing me to work in other production houses. This has kept me virtually unemployed for the past six months," Vikas claims in his petition.

Vikas has sought payment of his dues from the company. According to his petition, the company owes him Rs 28 lakh, which is outstanding since May 2007. "He was not paid Rs 6 lakh last year and this year's outstanding payments have reached almost Rs 22 lakh," said advocate Afroz Shah, who represents Vikas.

In his petition, Vikas has claimed that he entered into a one-year contract with the company in May, 2006. After the first contract expired, he along with other actors of Left Right Left — the popular serial telecast on SAB TV — renewed the contract for one year. "But for some unknown reasons, I was not called for shoot since November 9 and till today, I have not been called back by the production house to resume shooting for the serial," says his petition.

"Since November 2007, my client has written at least five letters to the production house's authorities, but they have not responded. He had no other options but to move the court to seek justice," Shah said.

Vikas has now sought relief from the court under Section 9 of the Arbitration Rules. He moved court on April 25. The court heard the petition on Tuesday.

As the producers were not present in court, Justice Karnik issued notices to the respondents directing them to remain present in the court on next hearing. Despite making repeated efforts to contact Deeya Singh remained unavailable for comment.
