AWWW you guys doth make me blush. Such a lovely welcome. Thank you so much. I already feel like part of the family haha. Can't get rid of me now ;) ;P LOL
I love reading all of your stories of how you got into LTL. Clearly both the different idea, writing but mostly the portrayal by the actors got us all. :) Which makes a invigorating and refreshing change from the usual 'cast because are beautiful but cannot act for peanuts' which you mostly see on TV now. Ok so I get it, yes we do want to see pretty people of television and their problems it makes us feel more happy about our own lives-I know it's crude but unfortunately the sad reality- but for me there is nothing worse than watching a scene play out and cringing my way through it, because of one: the acting or rather lack of or two: the fact that clearly there is no plot or story.
I'm not putting this show on a pedestal-it too has had many of it's "HUH, what the heck just happened" moments or rather even extremely slow paced episodes, but genuinely the execution is something to be talked of and quite a notch or two above the rest.
Yes Nakusha (hi) you can call me a senior of some sorts (LOL) I joined india-forums way back in 05, when I was 13, (I'm now 22) So immature lol. But then with school, college and then university I got so busy that I left, then recently I came across something and thought, let me see if I can remember my account details, alas I forgot my password...can you blame me. But I got a new one and well long story short here I am.
tahera57- I actually find that a number of Teens or even older in the UK do in fact watch indian drama's. The reason being because our mothers/sister in laws etc are in charge of the TV remote in the evening. And yes although we can go to another room and mostly people tend to, to watch different things (as I do) but in reality I rec on the sly-on the side-we do watch them, to mock them. While our mothers stay engrossed, we sit there and laugh at the snail pace and the constant migraine inducing headaches, and lest of all the abaility to sleep in your biggest bling and wake up with a fresh face make up'd face. (COme on ladies let's admit it, that is the dream to be able to sleep in flawless makeup and wake in it too) on which note, I cannot blame guys for having trust issues- they probably don't encounter many (non-makeup) faces. ;) ...aah I've sidetracked somewhat, back to my point...You are right in saying most people in the UK and I am presuming by extension the rest of Europe/America/Australia etc probably don't watch and that is true, but there are number of people who do, not necessarily to enjoy it, but nonetheless they still do and hence know about various plot lines and people.
I'll give you an example, my parents own a boutique, and since I am off for the summer (well not technically I have a research paper to work on over the summer for my Masters degree) but anyway since I am 'off' for the summer, I have been helping out and we have a book/catalogue there of anarkali type frocks, which Akshara (I'm guessing that's her character name) from Yeh Rishta Kya kehlata hai and the amount of people who come in and recognise her; be it Indian, Pakistani and Bangali, somewhat amuses me. I didn't know who she was. We don't have starplus. Mum just watches the free channels, despite dad insisting on buying the subscription for her. But my sister in law told me and I couldnt help but find it fascinating how despite probably people not 'watching watching' the show ie being drawn to the story etc, they still were aware of who she was.
uh-oh long post again...I have a tendency towards essay writing, as you'll come to know :)
In the meantime, have a great day folks :)
