LTL Written Update

Episode ~26

1st February 2010

Outside the Hospital

The episode starts from the point where Aye Sahib holds the gold necklace before Naku. She hesitates and Aye Sahib encourages her to accept with a kind smile. Ganpat , chivvies his daughter to accept, but Naku still refrains from doing so, till Aye Sahib says, take it ask your mother who is standing beside you, she'd know how it feels when one's child is in danger, I can't reward you enough even if I shower you with pearls.. she says tearfully, as all around including Naku accepts this mother's logic. Aye Sahib again insists that Naku accept the necklace.. receive it child as a mother's blessing. Ganpat glares at Naku to accept. Dutta gives Naku a sided look , as Naku turns to her mother. Babi overcome, gives a brief nod and Naku accepts it shyly, and looks up at Aye Sahib with much gratitude, and then bends to touch her feet. Aye Sahib raises her up and lovingly feels Naku's face. Ganpat is well pleased while Babi is just happy that someone has accepted her daughter whole heartedly with her dusky look. In all this scene ,Dutta looks bored and Ganpat seizes the opportunity to tell some tall tales about himself... I saved Bhau !yes I did! Aye Sahib looks at him, while Babi and the rest of his family exchange glance in disbelief at his brazenness. Ganpat continues,undeterred, it was really dangerous he was in a pool of blood, but I made up my mind, I didn't think of my life !while saving Bhau ,but how to do that? there was nothing there! then I saw a cart, I put Bhau on the cart!and pulled the cart all the way till here, that was me!. Dutta ,turns his head ,his eyes narrowed , his mouth firmed up, and Ganpat changed his tune, I mean all of us together...and then Dutta again gave him a frigid look that shut Ganpat up! and he lowered his eyes and covered his mouth with his palm.

Aye Sahib ,impressed with folded palms , asks, which village are you from? where are you going?.The family looks worried and finally Babi replies, where are we to go? all that was ours ,is left behind.. and they all nod, as Dutta gives them a sided look. Baji adds, Aye Sahib, it was trouble with the police, Bhau saved them. Dutta's mother looks at him knowingly, like he would help the needy. Babi adds , your son saved my daughter's life, actually we were going to Shirdi ,but on our way.. Baji cuts her , lest she say where she met them under what circumstances.. we found them and.. Dutta looks at Baji as he saved the day.

Aye Sahib , says with a smile, think of it as Babaa's will that we have met.. we cannot refute his wish, Baji ,they'll stay with us for a few days make them sit in the car.. and Baji says yes. Naku, Babi , seem very grateful, Sethji gives a big smile alongside his father. Once it's settled the family all head for the car, and Ganpat elated, once again harps about, they are really big people... bigger than the cops.Babi, tells him to shut up !

Naku before she gets into the car, turns to look at Dutta.. standing with his mother who encircles money over his head and then gives it to the nurses with her gratitude.

Ganpat says to Babi, we won't need to work, ever!, Sethji says, he wants to sit in the front seat of the car.

But Naku, only stares at Dutta from a distance... Babi notices it, and taps Naku on the shoulder, move get in the car, come on!. but Naku stands before the car door besotted by the sight of the handsome stud DSP.

Once in his car, Dutta, concerned asks his mother, hope you didn't tell my sisters about the accident, did you?. She replies, how could I not tell them? they would get it out of me anyhow, you know how much they love you, they were really scared, they spent the night in tears and so did I. Dutta, unable to cope with such reactionary behaviour, says briefly , really Aye ! , and bids his driver to go! and the cavalcade of cars roll on towards home.

Patil Nivas

We get the first glimpse of Patil Nivas, the uphill red, yellow, blue bricked drive to the entrance. Complete with two Greek nude female statues standing on either side of steps leading to main door.Two guards dressed in identical ceremonial uniforms flanked the steps..the front faade of the structure was held up by eight sturdy majestic Grecian columns.

The cars pull up the drive, and home hands announce his arrival.Dutta Bhau has come! soon the maids too start spilling out of the main entrance steps .. looking delighted.

The owners step out of the cars and receive the greetings from the menials.

Naku's family huddled together raise their eyes to the magnificent scale of the grand mansion...Ganpat, admits awe struck like the rest.. this is a palace!hey Babi ! we'll live in such a big house!.. Babi points to a serious faced Dutta and tells her husband to be quiet. The servants ask how are you Dutta Bhau?and he nods and smiles. Aye Sahib says, they've been on watch all night, for you. His mother tells him, go in. He goes up the steps, and Naku watches him leave.. his mother continues, Dutta has reached home safely now you all get back to work.

Dutta steps into the long corridor of his house and calls out for his sister, Roops! He walks further down and shouts Kala ! Leela !

Outside his mother says, Baji take them inside..Baji yells, ey! come with me.

The family of four stands under the frame of the entrance, just before they step on to the beige tiled corridor. Babi, rolls her eyes in disbelief and covers her mouth with her hand.Ganpat too stares at her completely bowled over by the grand interior of the house.The family looks to every section of the house..[ have to say it was fantastic..each area had many a scene shot in it, still planted in our memories].

Baji turns up and says to Ganpat , hey dimwit! this is the doorway! the house is in there, come on in!

Aye, gives the orders, go get Bhau's shower ready! and be quick! Ganu ! .go and get the masseur ![ me raising my eyebrows]. Baji comes to Aye and Naku and family to follow him and wait. Aye turns to a maid, go call dr. Gupta, and tell him till our Dutta does not get better, he is to stay in our guest room. Dutta looking around comes and asks his mother, Aye I looked for my sisters everywhere. Where are they? his mother replies, where else son? they are in the temple of goddess, until they know that you are back, they won't move from there, since they've found out about the attacks on you, they haven't eaten anything! they are praying for you before the goddess. Dutta miffed turns and stalks off in a hurry.. while his mother shouts , hey!listen to me, wait!.. he won't stop.

Ganpat, turns his eyes and he sees the five tiered bar area!..and wipes his mouth... Babi on the other hand, spots the large pearl white sitting idol of the deity Ganesh.. and she clasps her hands and bows her head in devotion. Aye Sahib , continues, the bond he shares with his sisters is exemplary.. and they all smile in agreement. Aye Sahib, turns to Baji , take them to the outhouse, and take care of them, clothes, food, every thing. Baji looks puzzled, but he just obeys and asks the family to follow him.

At the temple

Images of a diya with melted wax. The image of Ganpati. The image of goddess Durga with a trident in her hand. Kala, her eyes weep, her mouth chants.. as her hands perform arti before the goddess. One of her palm holds a burning candle upon it. Leela , clangs the hanging mandir bell nonstop and forcibly ..her eyes too weep. Roops stands on one leg, her hands raised above her head , in prayer..she looks down and her face too is tear stained. Pandit comes and offers her water ,but she refuses, no until my Bhau does not return , I will not eat or drink anything.

Dutta arrives at the temple and dashes towards his sisters, he comes to Kala first, who is holding lit up candles on her palms.He grabs her hands ,with a scowl on his face. Then turns to Leela who was tolling the bell, stop it ! your hands are bleeding. Roops says feebly Bhau! Bhau ! he goes towards her and she crumples in his arms and faints, he lays her on the floor and tries to revive her , Roops! Roops ! . Kala says, open your eyes, look the goddess has answered our prayers, our brother is back... Leela says ,yes Roops see he's back. Dutta most irate says, what are you doing?enough! its enough! please don't cry.. look no bullet can take me away from my sisters..so stop crying now, come on Aye is waiting for us at home, get up!

The four of them before they leave the temple fold their hands before the goddess. Dutta holds Roops head in his palms and kisses her forehead.

Patil Nivas

End of the day at PN.. Naku's pulls back the curtains from a window in her new home. The rest of her family, were buzzing with the feeling of being in a new place. Sethji looks at new clothes given to him.Babi unfolds a mattress on the bed, ey Ganpat ! come and help me! she calls. He comes, but not without complain, how dirty this bed sheet is!,Babi rebukes him, quiet! here hold this!.Naku stands beside the window in a pensive mood yet listening to her parents argue. Ganpat carries on with his chatter, ey Babi! my dad once told me, a good man is seldom respected, now see I saved Bhau's life! how did he reward me? with this shabby place! take a look at this , such a thin cotton mattress it should have been a thicker one, with foam inside it.Babi hisses back, what next? a cabaret dancer? and he says, sure I would like that.. and Babi yells ay! wait I'll ask Dutta Bhau to make you a mansion! Ganpat mansion! you'll be the king . Ganpat retorts, don't act smart with me! after all I saved his life!. Naku turns quietly when her father says that.. and Babi says dryly, you are right Ganpat it was you who took the bullet! we were sitting on the side, watching you do that! lazy bone! you were going to run away! Ganpat yells , hey! you never like what I say, and Babi says no!.. Ganpat carries on, once a wise man told me ,that all women think alike that their husbands are totally dumb!! you think so to!Iam hungry, give me something to eat! Babi yells, where will I get food from? Ganpat winds her up, if there's nothing to eat then give me something to drink!. Naku stands with a, bundle of clothes in her arms. Sethji complains they never stop quarrelling! I'll run away from the house one day!.and Babi picks up her shoe to give him the beats, and he moves back in dread.. Naku tells him don't act smart! help me . Ganpat picks up the tiffin and Babi tells him to put it down!

Sethji pulls Naku, Tai! let's go out..and Naku sees her parents squabbling and decides on going out of the room with Sethji. Babi warns him to behave.

Dinner at PN

Aye Sahib bids shyma the maid to bring the food. Dutta comes to the dinner table and pulls out the chair for his baby sister and sits next to her. Kala says let's see what's for dinner? Aye Sahib says, tonight it's all of Dutta's favourite food..and she makes him sit on her right, beside Roops. Food is served and lovingly Dutta turns to his sister, first of all have some water from my hands. She screws her face , but drinks it as he forces it down her, and all smile at the scene. Dutta is served by Kala ,and he acts all smug, and refrains from eating to tease. Aye looks at him, come on start eating! and he nods , but his mother breaks a morsel of bread and feeds him and he protests, Aye! , his mother chides him, I know, you've grown older now but you're still a child for me ,here and she feeds him a morsel which he accepts in his mouth like a little boy. His older sisters look on lovingly.. Aye , insists, that he be served. Kala dishes out some more, and he says, that's enough Tai! how much can I eat? and Kala replies, eat it as a penance for making us cry... Dutta's face becomes grim, I know I've made you all cry.. I'm sorry for that but Aye, my job is dangerous you know that. Roops adds, a lighter note, we knew, if we sisters prayed for you in the temple.. nothing would hurt you.. and my brother is a lion, isn't he Aye ? Kala gives a dazzling smile and says, nope ! he is braver than the lion!.Roops all excited says yes! and Dutta turns to her and says, that's enough! now you finish your dinner !

Aye Sahib ,looks at her children and her eyes well up and she sobs. alarmed , Dutta turns to her, and says Aye? and her daughters too huddle around her worried.. Aye ? Aye ?. Dutta covers his mother's hand with his..what happened Aye ?and she covers his palm with hers .. I don't believe you are not related by blood..who'll believe that you're not my son?.. and Dutta turns to look at her face..
