Episode ~25

At the hospital

The episode begins in hospital surroundings. Dutta, after blood transfusion, dressed in power blue patient clothes in the recovery room. His head moves on his pillow and he suffers from FBs of recent events.. being ambushed, Baji being shot and finally him..

The door to his room opens, Naku enters and her eyes rest on his sleeping face.Cautiously she progresses towards his bed, stands beside him and takes a good look at him.His brow sweats and she bunches the corner of her chunni to mop the moisture. He twitches his mouth ,and as soon as she presses the chunni, his left arm grabs her wrist, and he pulls it , deliriously calling out , Baji! get down! Baji shoot them! get in the car!all of you hide!, quickly! Baji! sit inside get in the car!Baji run ! shoot them Baji! he snarls and yells, as he twists Naku's arm who looks in shock at him...Bajiii! He shouts and alarmed sits upright in bed, dazed. Naku, calms him saab , and holds him up from behind, her hands on both his shoulders. Saab! every thing is fine, doctor has asked you to rest, still dazed he turns his head a bit towards the speaker, haaan..he mutters ,then turns to give this figure a cautiously cold look...he looks on at her face, and then his eyes lower immediately to glare at this girl's hand on his shoulder! ..and Naku slowly relaxes her fingers from both his shoulders, as if she had she desecrated him. Dutta turns his face the other way. She looks sideways, snubbed, but soon looks across at his furrowed profile. He seemed to be recollecting.. but then he in full sane mind asks with great authority, Baji how is he?, Naku replies, ji, your friend is absolutely fine.

On hearing this , he hauls himself, and throws off his covers ready to climb out of bed, I want to see him!.Naku stops him, by touching his shoulder again, please believe me your friend is fine. Dutta flashes at this girl's guts of stopping him.. but she pushes him back gently to rest, please, you rest.. Ganpati bapaa will take care of everything. Dutta groans , aghhh in pain.. she presses his folded knees and covers his legs again, you rest for sometime, she suggests, but he calls out, how is Baji?. Naku comes to his side and replies looking down at him, he's ok, Dutta asks, is his bullet out?,and Naku replies, yes... Dutta then deliriously says, where's AS? Ayee.. I am fine.. he mumbles. Naku looks down at his face, turning sideways in discomfort on the pillow. Naku moves away towards the door, as he continues to groan, Aye... Baji.. Naku stops at the door and gives him one final look, he mumbles.. hey.. mum..Naku leaves his room as he dozes off again..

Hospital Vestibule

Naku stands above the main stairway in the lobby , that leads to wards, on one side and specialist units on the other. All is quiet as its night time. She sees a lone porter doing his business.

She gets to the bottom of the staircase and can see her family asleep on one of the benches in the entrance. Her father on the floor , back rested against the edge of the bench , and briefcase held between his abs and kneed up legs. Aye, sat asleep cradling her brothers head on her lap. She stands and looks down at her family , with tenderness and pride. Lovingly she strokes her sleeping brothers' face..

Outside the hospital, a white vehicle pulls up and two men with shoulders covered with shawls get out, and enter the hospital.

At reception, Naku overhears them, where is Dutta Patil?. Naku mutters, his name!.. Dutta?. She turns to face the men, are you Dutta Bhau's men? she asks keenly and hopefully. The men turn from reception desk to look at the speaker...they look at her with interest, and she confirms, huh? slowly they look at each other and say, yes, we are Dutta Patil's men, where is Dutta Patil?. Naku begins he is.. and then her eye falls on the speakers gun tucked in front behind his belt. The man becomes aware and pulls his tee shirt over it, he waits for her to tell him.Wide eyed Naku thinks ,then points to right of the stairway, there! on the right, he is room no.9. The men exchange glances, accept her brief and head up the stairway towards the x-ray dept. Naku pleased with her quick thinking ,sees them turn right, then dashes up the main stairs turns left and barges into his room, hurriedly wakes him up , saab! please wake up saab get up!. he opens his eyes and listens to her shouts, saab! they are searching for you! saab! they have a gun!. Dutta peers at her and then sits up.Naku bends to open his bedside drawer and takes his gun , looks at it and gives it to an anxious Dutta, here saab! she says, as he sits on his bed, and has more FBs. Naku presses, saab do something please!. he looks at his gun a bit disoriented, and then takes it from her hand; holds it up his face in a scowl! pulls off his cannula! throws off his bedcover and stands up! turns his body swiftly! grabs her wrist with his right hand! and pulls her behind him!

The two men enter a door and, they find a blood stained bed, but empty!the men leave.

Dutta enters Baji's room, his gun pointed ahead, Naku follows him. He frees Baji of his tubes and bends his knees in agony and carries his best friend in his arms.. Naku opens the door for the two..

Dutta enters another spare room and sits Baji down safely , propped up against the wall. He leaves closing the door behind him.. and heads for the main stair case, his gun points to the right at the inter section of the stairway.

Nimbly, with Naku's wrist in his right hand and gun ready in his left hand. He tows Naku down the main staircase...[notice the beautiful slender feet as well!]

He reaches the landing and runs to Naku's sleeping family. Ganpat stirs, what's happened?. Naku rushes to her brother, Sethji ,wake up!.Dutta urges them to shhh! and orders them, come on!.Dutta looks around and then finds a place, get inside! and hide! he commands urgently. The family is pushed into a store room, and they question flabbergasted, what happened! . Naku looks out of the glass square port window of the door. She sees Dutta's head, and hears him lock the door.

Dutta turns to people in the lobby, eh! get out quickly! Out!

Alone he waits his lips pulled down angrily right down to his chin. He aims his gun at the stairway.. ready and waiting..

Ganpat in the storeroom asks Naku, what happened upstairs ?why are we locked up in here?, Naku mumbles .. ummmhh,

Dutta still waits , his eyes , mind hands ready...he looks at he empty stair case , nothing in sight, but he continues to aim his gun at various points.

The family in the store room , then hear foot steps outside. The two men descend from the right side and reach the intersection landing.. but soon cross over and climb the stairs on the left of the stairway... then return to the intersection and begin to come down the main stairway.

Dutta waits for them at the side of the under stair alcove. His gun now poised at their backs. he fires the shot! and Naku pressed against the inside door of the store room covers her ears wih a ohhh!more gun shots are fired, bang! Bang! Bang! and the rat a tat ! of machine gun firing rapid rounds! Sounds of bullets whistling and whizzing past shelling!.. sounds like a war zone!

Babi shouts , bhau! bhau! and Naku catches her breath and her back slides down the door in horror!

The family is horror struck with the on going shooting! It must have gone all night..

Suddenly silence.Under the store room light, sits a sleeping Ganpat clutching the brief case.Babi, Naku and Sethji, huddled on the ground asleep..

The door to the room opens. Baji, arm in a sling stands looking down at the sleeping lot.Naku wide eyed asks him straightaway... where is saab?. Baji, dead serious, turns his head behind him, and replies , he's there... Naku's eyes pop out , she thinks the worse.. she stammers.. where is he?. Baji seriously replies, come on.. she goes with him..

Outside the hospital

Outside the hospital chants of long live! Dutta bhau!ring out.Women ,children , men, chant the slogan long live Dutta bhau. There is a police presence their to maintain order. Baji brings naku over to see the crowds chanting his bhao's name, people chanted hail Dutta bhau!

His right arm and hand appears on the screen against the back drop of the police, his supporters and their adulation of him.Naku watches in silence, puzzled at the spectacle ,was he some politician? .Dutta folds both his palms in humility, and gazes at the crowd with affection. The police tries to control the crowd as he stands before them, hands joined, smiling at his people, dressed in a pastel pink shirt under a navy blue blazer.He raises his palm, for some calm, and then addresses his people.. the son who has the blessings of so many mothers! cannot be harmed! whatsoever! all your prayers! love and blessings, protects me like a shield.. people cheer hail! Dutta bhau!.. he spreads his arms , and smiles, raise his finger up and continues, no sword! can ever harm Dutta! no bullet can pierce through Dutta's chest! , he says defiantly... the crowd yells , whoever attacks Dutta will pay the price!.. he spreads his palms than joins them together and says, Dutta is your forever and will always remain yours.. he bows his head before his people with joined palms.

All chant long live Dutta bhau!.. he lowers his arm and feels his chest from the side as his wound hurts. Naku looks across to him worried and Baji rushes to his side.

Inside the store room, Babi wakes up Sethji ,and Ganpat, wake up come on.. and Ganpat says, yes lets go out!.

Outside assisted by Baji and the police, Dutta walks trough the cheering crowd. Babi joins Naku, under one of the front arches of the hospital building, and the family watch in disbelief from far the popularity of this man Dutta bhau... how people crave to touch and feel the tips of his fingers, hands blessing him.its never ending their chanting, and baji eventually says come bhau lets go..

One guy cuts through the crowd and is pushed back, but Dutta says let him through. The man comes and falls to Dutta's knees. Dutta says , Kisna, please stand up..yes what is it?.Kisna says, bhau, some thugs have forcefully acquired my land. Dutta turns to Baji, to deal with the man. Baji takes him aside and assures him, bhau, decided to help you, everything will be fine , meet me tomorrow , relax now..

Babi much impressed amid all the cheering says, Ganpat, he is a very established man, and Ganpat agrees , yes, indeed , he's a very big personality. Sethji is filled with awe. But Naku stands, quiet, and almost unimpressed. Baji comes to the gazing family and taps Ganpat on the shoulder, with what do you think of him now look. Sethji much impressed says... aye! this man seems to be even richer than potya seth! he is just like the hero of a picture! ..Naku gives her brother a sided glare.Baji says with great pride.. eh! he's Dutta bhao, they call him the lion of the jungle!. then Baji looks down Naku's head, did you see ? the man's life you saved... has so many ready to sacrifice their life for him , he's a god, in human form... and Naku mumbles, god in human form...

AS's Visit

Suddenly a big white pulls into the hospital's drive, and baji, slaps his head.ohhh gawddd no! the police is here!. Ganpat stammers, police!? why have the police come?, a worried Baji replies,

she is the mother of all police!I won't be spared today.

The family all look worried as the car door opens and a graceful middle aged lady steps out.. amid chants of hail mother! hail Dutta bhau! she too faces the people , folds her palms and smiles at he people who say three cheers to the mother!

Dutta stands and looks on from a distance and gives a warm slanted smile...people fall to her feet and she raises her hands and joins her palms.. the police helps her to move towards her son who leans forward from the hospital entrance steps to greet her. He bends to touch her feet ,but she caresses his face and embraces him.. and says, oh god continue to shower your blessings on us, Dutta! we were awake the whole night, you are very courageous but not us. He smiles ,mother Iam a lion because my mother is a lioness, and his mother sobs, my heart is not as strong as yours, son, I'm not that strong, your mother is old now.. I can't tolerate bloodshed anymore. Dutta stops her, mom...but she continues miffed at him, but you are not worried about your mother.you go and fight the world! forget that our life and death depends on you. Dutta doesn't argue, any more and calmly says, mom ,lets go home fire me as much as you want to your hearts content..he turns and say's ,let's go Baji. His mother's gaze then falls on a sheepish Baji, trying to save his cheek.. he bends forward to touch her feet, and she raises him up and slaps his cheek!. Dutta rushes to defend him, aye its not his fault. She glares up at dutta, I'm his mother as well! if he's made a mistake , then he deserves a slap!not a sweet!.Baji lowers his eyes embarrassed. Her eye then falls on his cast.. and she looks concerned.. and strokes his hurt gently, then his face, and says tearfully, hey, Dutta's shot was taken by you right?..he nods and she smiles and says, come let's go home, I'll give you milk mixed with turmeric..but Baji sullenly says, I would prefer another slap from you. His mother says, what did you say?..and Baji says, nothing and than to Dutta, bhau, we both will have this haldi milk. Your bone will be fixed, and Dutta moves his narrow eyes to check if his mother suspects anything.. Baji says lets go! and Dutta says, Baji.. and then he sides his narrow eyes towards the family standing to their side... Baji goes towards Naku's family. As Dutta leads his mother by the hand amidst more cheering of long live Dutta bhau!

Baji joins the family and informs them, all of you! come along! Bhau's orders..Ganpat smiles and passes the briefcase to Baji, who says to Sethji, eh Sethji come on!..

Dutta leads his mother to the car, and Baji yells, aye shahib! one moment! Hey! you come here! he yells to Naku and family...as as they come... Dutta gives Naku a stolen glance...a puzzled AS, asks ,Dutta who are these people?..Dutta lowers his eyes and pulls his mouth down towards where naku stood.. Baji says, I'll tell you AS, this girl saved bhau's life. AS looks kindly at Naku who joins her hands in respect .Dutta takes a deep breath and narrows his eyes...Baji continues, she looks tiny, but is very brave hearted...she and her whole family put me and bhau on a cart and brought us to the hospital. AS, smiles at each one of them...but calls Naku, come here.. she takes off a gold necklace from her neck and holds it before Naku.. Naku looks at it, not amused.. Babi gives her a hand signal not to accept the necklace... Naku just looks at it... the episode ends. Hamlet53, 28.9.13

Precap: Ganpat, says, I saved bhau, it was a dangerous sight , they were smeared with blood..I wouldn't have left them, I said I must save bhau even at the cost of my life...Ganpat prattles on till Dutta gives him a killlinggg look.

My comment, ummh, this Dutta how many times he steals glances at Naku..? countless.. have to admit, does it with complete attitude.
