Atlast some action !!!
Cabinet clears for ordinance on Rape laws, some sweeping changes to the laws are
1. "Sexual assault" term instead of Rape
2. Minimum 20years punishment for rapes
3. Death penalty in extreme cases/full life term in prison till death
4. Acid attack and stalking to come under the purview of sexual assault.
5. 10yrs punishment for officers failing in duty of protecting women.
6. Disrobing gets an enhancement in punishment.
But the biiggest Dissappointment is Juvenile act is yet to be touched .

Yes, bharti,,,it is really disappointing that, a boy can rape, but still is considered as a boy...an innocent lad...

Damini's friend had said, there are lots of laws in our country, but they are far from implementation...Again some new laws,,but it is not ensuring the reduction of heinous crime as rape...as Article 302 could not lower down murder...

Basic need is mental change, awareness and alertness. Govt could not save woman chastity. Women have to take steps to save themselves...it is very hard to hear and believe that, these accidents make us so scared to men, that each and every face seems horrible, as in terrorist-prone areas we scare each and every face.😕

You are right san, merely changing laws have never changed things but in our context we need an overhaul of the entire system of administration of policing and justice delivery. For that police reforms is top top priority and then juducial reforms both of which are long pending and dragged by politicians for their own benefit. Hopefully now when after all the hue n cry laws were changed we need the same pressure till further action is taken.

Well said bharti,,,but you know what, all the necessity will be realised , when women are subjected to give dignity. Each and every sphere, they are just abused, whether by eye, or by verbally,,,,,there are also crime, but negligible for society. These small happens , one day become those big crimes. Laws says only for those bigs, but what will be for these smalls...it is our day to day experience,,,,,,,who will talk over these?

For that to change as you pointed earlier change of mindsets alone can help. For that to happen each and one of us need to be the change.. Our homes are the first place to usher in the change, the schools coming next. Already i see some elite schools in delhi adopting some of the relevant aspects into their curriculum. But it should be done on a war footing, the women,s and child welfare ministry should step up its propoganda machine to spread awareness among public, only thing needed is the WILL to do it.

Supreme court to review the definition of 'Juvenile' in Juvenile,s Act, thats another significant step N fingers crossed to what the outcme would be.
The President signs Anti Rape Ordinance giving it a go ahead, making it imperative that the laws will be changed immediately. Activists are not happy thou for not including some of their demands in the said ordinance

The prime accused of delhi dec16th incident has hanged self in tihar jail. Not sure what to make of it except that he must have regretted his evil actions to take this step, (assuming he killed himself) The case against all accused is progressing on a daily basis in the fast track court, media is banned from reporting.
