Dutta even thou did not have his own family AS gave him the comfort n lov of a family to which he abundantly responded n forever remained a true son, the good son which AS never had. He respected AS immensely, regarded Kalwati highly n luvd leela n roops.. Baji was ofcourse more than a brother. yes such was his love.. khandan ke liye

But his tryst with love changed him from dutta to dutta bhao n then back. It eluded him n changed his life forever. trouble is he loved his family then and now.. blindly.. as one does to their immediate family.

Hammie you have put it beautifully what these four clips had one thing running in common, the joys n pains of a family. When one suffers the whole family is tensed n when one is happy the rest rejoice too. But sadly dutta had everything in abundance. If AS, baji n naku gave him all the love then the three sisters along with seema n supriya caused him immense hurt n grief not to forget naku as well to a great extent due to her indecisiveness.
you say it so clearly.. but is this not a true to life tale , one has all sorts in immediate family.. but when money crops up ,so does competition, comparison, envy .. kala wanted more..her rightful status..before her mother.. that dear boy usurped from her..

Then came his life altering experience of jmm1 where he discovers the truth about himself. In the darkness of the jungle when he thought he was lost Jagtap shows the light n the path. A total stranger becomes his mentor, opens his eyes to love, life n much more.

The last clip makes me emotional everytime i watch it. In the backdrop of "nariyal purnima" dutta is handed another lesson. Hammie i would mostly ignore the importance of these festivities n ceremonies... But you always whether in your Ff or other works brought the beautiful bonding a family shares on such occasions to the fore 👏 I guess this is what makes us stand out from the rest. ummmh thanks bart.. it was significant the smashing of coconuts... dutta.. breaking down his image... his aura, and humbling himself before all.. mostly nakusha.. dutta the humble , contrite man.. submitting his love before her..

Tragically for dutta whenever he tried in all honesty to make mends for his misdemeanour, he invariably had to deal with rejection or treachery. It was as if his past deeds came to haunt him. His appreciation, apology n apeal to naku all goes in vain.. the worse thing was dutta once again was in the dark of the truth behind naku,s reluctance to accept his proposal
yes that's where the empathy builds up for the don.. even when he genuinely repents .. he is scoffed by some low lives..and naku.. is the weapon. who kills him

Interesting to note that the last scene was edited from screening in UK where dutta is shown to hold the knives .. so i take it that it was considered not suitable for family viewing. yes, promoting possible self harm... also gov drive against carrying knives.. as there were many gang knife attacks then in certain areas of London in particular

"Who goes there! friend or foe?"

It seems an accepted fact that a person somewhere along the line, preferably in the vulnerable stages of one's life is influenced either by his parents, his teachers ,or most importantly by his peers.. so with peers comes bonding and forming alliance with people closer to one's taste and age what we call friendship patterns. with friendship also comes friends and other wise .. those that we see as our foes..Dutta's life also is not devoid of some characters that he considers friends be they family/cum friend like Kishore..or Baji whom he considers his bosom pal, Nakusha, his wife.Then there are others that Dutta sees as his well wishers/cum family but they are not..

What is Dutta's short fall? is it his in ability to distinguish between who is for or against him? is he a poor judge of people around him?. Baffling it may be, but professionally he is so discernible, is it because within the trade he can predict the foes moves ,whereas within the family setting he is easily duped.. for the enemy within is far more crafty and shrewd than the one outside.

Now as an audience we warm to pairing of characters in the imitation of life portrayals in the mediums of television,film,opera. Ltl1 boasts of some remarkable coupling of characters..Dutta/AS;Dutta/Baji;Dutta/Kala,Dutta/Naku..the key treasured ones. Only to be followed by equally impressive pairing of Dutta/Jagtap;Dutta/Ana; Dutta/Chaskar;Dutta/Mahadev.. proud assets of the programme. In my chosen clips, some of Dutta's pairing with his mother and Baji are highlighted.. enjoy.

There is no debate about who we as viewers see as Dutta's friend and who as not.The beauty of the chosen clips is accentuated by the contrast displayed in them.However,that Dutta seems totally unaware of the undercurrents that happen in his life adds to the conflict element.Strange things happen where least expected.His obsession primarily remains, protective responsibility for his immediate family.Like a good general he deputizes matters of security to the most trusted. But what and who are the most trusted..?ohh Dutta! Dutta! having eyes you still do not see. This clip shakes me up..

Here begins the entry of the first friend or foe..we have the doting foster mother, involved in collection of key evidence with a view to destroy it, which she does.Her firm purpose and expert knowledge of how security systems work impresses me.In full composure, the most trusted one , carries out the inclusion into the act of another that Dutta trusts.. friend or foe?..On the contrary, we have Dutta who loses his marbles.. freaked out by failed security.. and who should face his fury.. friend or foe. Baji faces, Dutta's, volley of sarcasm, accusation of incompetence, and finally almost a blow. To me the scene between Dutta and Baji in the security room is profound.. both actors Mishal and Vinay have immortalized comradeship. Highlight~ AS's manipulation, coercion of Naku.. and towards the end Dutta sounds like a defeated general in the battlefield, yelling his lungs out at his incompetent troops.. What is Dutta to himself.. a friend or a foe?

Furthermore you have the spiritual element; what is the truth and why it's concealed?. hence justifications of the earlier deed committed...but too late as the cat is nearly out of the bag. what follows is another celebrated pair in action Dutta and his mother.. the son his sentiments, anger, love, alertness, pleading for real.. but her sentiments... friend or foe?. how he empowers her and she shirks him off... or as we say here "fobs him off!... despite his imploring, she lucky for her manages to distract him and his scrutiny... ahhh then turns he to his friend.. Baji..who gets more furore from Dutta.. Roops .. friend or foe? mind you she does manage to save Baji.. and then Dutta , does change his tone towards Baji due to her.. but Baji does get a first verbal warning from Dutta , regarding the breach in security..does any one notice the miniscule and ineffective presence of Nakusha.. AS.. more coercion of Nakusha..

The paired friends Dutta and Baji.. exemplary relationship ..both consider the other as a mate, both fall out.. and fall back in line again. Dutta needs Baji, to let off his steam, he needs Baji to confide in, he needs Baji to love him, for Baji knows the complex side of Dutta.. there are many scenes that celebrate their friendship, but here are a few that I chose.. set in high drama and shrouded by conspiracy and plot.. public insult of Baji, Dutta recaping Baji's incompetence..Dutta's utter helplessness at no other option but to sack his closet friend.. the onlookers watch .. for Dutta to speak the unspoken to Baji .. you are sacked! and Sudarshan you are on! Mishal and Vinay...both are superb..one accuser the other accused.. the foes grab the opportunity! and all falls apart between Dutta and his mighty protector Baji. Foe..makes her immense power known to the weak female protagonist.. the breast shield of Dutta. To me in this clip both best friends are taken for a ride, by a mightier internal enemy.. the scene between Sudarshan the sycophant and Dutta.. brilliant.. Sudarshan trying his level best to put Dutta off Baji.. and getting no where.Then Baji taken for a ride by both Roops and Kala..friend or foe?..the scene reminds me of Satan tempting Eve in the garden of Eden by sweet talk.. mission accomplished, the inseparable Dutta and Baji..split... but Kala aims higher.. her ultimate goal to create a rift between, Dutta/Baji/Naku.. who goes there friend or foe...?
