Character sketch of Roops

Now the first thing that comes to my mind is that the character of Roops was not at all cute from any angle and I have several reasons to support that. Being dutta's youngest sister he was shown being closest to her, remember the scene where all the 3 sisters were praying for him in the temple, he was worried to see Roops standing on one foot and later on she collapses out of exhaustion (all drama😡) and the worst part he kissed her forehead😭 (I was like no mishal 🤢, u cant do this.) even though at that point of time we didn't know that all of them were pretending to care for him still I had this creepy feeling that Roops is not an innocent girl ( I don't know what made me dislike Roops instantly👎🏼, may be the character/ actor or both). She proved me right in no time when she was making drinks for herself and her sisters, it really annoyed me when they called alcohol as 'charan amrit'😡 they could have given it another name. Anyway my attention soon shifted to Kala and it amazed me to see how well she controlled her sisters, not for once did she regret making her youngest sister drink and include her in her evil plans.

Kala had her reasons to hate dutta but I am not sure whether leela and Roops were aware of the fact that dutta's father had accidently killed their father, if they didn't know then I wonder why they supported kala blindly especially Roops coz we did get to see some beautiful brother sister scenes where dutta gave in to her demands and bought her an expensive dress out of the money he'd kept to buy spare parts.

I feel Roops was a very manipulative character, she used her brother's love to enjoy a luxurious life then played with Baaji's emotions to control dutta indirectly but ultimately she was a puppet in the hands of Kala who knew exactly how and when to use her. Although she didn't have a mind of her own but still there was a time when she wanted to listen to her heart, I mean when madhu entered the scene and she saw Baaji getting attracted towards madhu, she felt insecure and jealous. Again here I don't know how true her feelings were for him, did she fear that her plan of controlling him would fail if he got close to madhu or she genuinely liked him?

The only thing that I appreciate about her was that towards the end she didn't wish dutta to be killed other than that I found her really irritating, selfish and ungrateful.

Plz do share your views, its important to keep the forum alive😊.

Rose. I agree with everything you have said about Roops. Never liked her...I have always liked Madhu from the beginning but could not stand Roops. I think my reason has to be the fact that she is a push over and can't think for herself. No intelligence what so ever...and her ways and speaking is just too much of a childs behaviour i wanted to tell her for heavens sake grow up lol...Her intentions have never been nice, always selfish . Despite the loving brother she had she chose to use his love instead of actually accepting it from the heart...she's always been one to just nod her head to her sister...even if she didn't understand what was going on...which i believe was the case...like u mentioned her and leela seemed to not know Kala's true intentions...they were appalled when they found out ...just goes to show how stupid and ridiculous the two characters are...and how much they were puppets to Kala. Even kala never gave a damn for them..she only used them...and the dimwits never caught on to that lol till the end...goes to show just how intelligent they are ...Roops in the Baaji matter...i would like to think she was more annoyed with Madhu ruining her plans than the fact that Baaji got attracted to Madhu lolzzz can't bear to think she may actually have had feelings..altho if she did would've loved to see it shatter when Baaji picked Madhu ...am I so evil? lol anyway thank u for the character breakdown.great post :)

Hi Rose
Word! agree with everything u put to pen on the character of Roops.
Never liked her except enjoyed some light moments of her with baji. Also felt the CVs were themselves confused in how to handle the character. Otherwise initially in the pre naku times it was shown as roops bein the closest to dutta n then later hand in glove with kala in all her evil plans. It was much later when kala imprisoned the entire family that roops changed, too late too little. Even her relationship with baji was unclear, sometimes it was shown that she used him too n then when madhu entered she was shown to have some feelings for him but again faltered as she was used to manipulate baji's feelings against dutta, so it went on changin according to the whims n fancies of the CVs. With naku or with sethji in particular her behaviour was too silly n immature.
Even though the actress did a pretty job, the character didnt give much to rejoice nor was as strongly portrayed as others. She was just a puppet in kala's hands n didnt show any strength in character even if it was meant to be evil as such. Overal it was just disappointment.

So far almost everyone who posted has a dislike for Roops and I'm on the same bandwagon. I know at the end she was making an effort at redemption but so was meri sauten Leela. What if Leela partnered up with Kala instead? Would Roops still have listened to the "goodness" in her heart or given in to her sisters as always? I know she is supposed to be naive and used like a puppet by Kala, but I believe she is mature enough or at least old enough to be held responsible for what she did with her brother regardless of Kala's influence on her. Thing is, I don't think she was ever truly confused about her love for her brother - she never cared for him, just like Kala. She appreciated getting lavished by him and didn't seem to hate him as much as Kala but that's still not saying much. She didn't want to kill him but still hurt him a lot. And when she seemed to be jealous of Madhu, it was as though the CVs were trying to get some use out of her and her foil character. At least that's what I thought and when it is this obvious, how can it be believable? I just can't think it was genuine. Likewise, her turn around was also too sudden to make me want to say, "okay, maybe she deserves a chance." She could've been a likable character if her change started by showing some action to prove she had a heart, but it just didn't happen that way. So there you have it, my take on Roops. I doubt she'd find anything to say "so cute na?" about it.

Rose great post and I agree with almost everything you said. 😃👍🏼

I think the reason we could not figure out who Roops really was and the reason we did not really like her, was because the writers/CV keep changing her character.

The track where she was supposed to like Baji...I think they were trying to give Baji a love interest, but there were not much chemistry between the two actors and the actress who plays Roops was not able to show the vulnerability side of Roop and that why (I think) they change it to, that it was all a plan to trick Baji.

Rose...Leela and Roops did not know about Dutta's father being the reason why Kala hated Dutta, Kala loved the part that she knew more and could control them without they really know why.

I think what they try to show was that Kala controlled everyone and that for Leela and Roop it was the secret that they shared...made them feel special. They wanted Dutta to work so they had fun and they believed what Kala said that for them to have fun, Dutta had to be miserable.

What CV also showed was that Leela and Roops had a conscience and that they felt bad when they saw their brother miserable...like this scene here (6:30)

But at the same time there was a competition going on between Leela and Kala...sister jalusy. Roops was just lost, she got the emotional intentions and sister love she needed from Leela and she felt she belongs with Kala and Leela because her brother was cut off, living in his own pain and busy with earning money and power that he forgot giving Roops time.

Rose I know you have not read D-N ELS but in that you kind of like Roops and you also get some great Dutta and Roops - Dutta and Leela - sister and brother moments. 😃

imo, the character was unbelieveable right from the start from t.he moment they showed them doing rituals in the mandir to when they show their real faces at night with the drinks party going on.
first the mandir scene as AS SAID THEY HAD BEEN DOING ALL IN PRAYERS SINCE they had heard about dutta got injured physically impossibe!
second when they were drinking showing their hatred for dutta i don't believe that knowing him to be their real brother any sister would want to hurt their brother like that unless they had a grudge, or the brother was someone that hurt them first, which clearly dutta never did. so if kala did say something to hurt dutta to make his life miserabe then the other sisters should have defended dutta and should have rebelled against kala.
so even the money factor didn't go down as the do all and be all of their evilness, as dutta was generous man and he gave them all they wanted however much his sisters wanted and more.
so for me there was not one solid reason for bad behaviour of leela roops jodi.it's cvs uncreativeness to give us two characters who played the dumbbest duo , who got taken in by their evil sibling and dance to her tune.
roops had no brain excuse don't know. maybe, she followed kala blindly because she was treated like a kid and always told to do as kala said and remained chid like until nearly the very end.
so it would be the case of a child in an adults body and followed kala unquestioningly.

Rose I recommend ur name for the CID gallantry awards for doing character sketches of highly irritating completely capable of doing severe brain damage people! waise stop grinning so much Mishu isn't gonna attend CID gallantry awards this time😛
very nice analysis! I couldn't imagine that such a lengthy analysis could be done on roops. and i completely agree agree with you, I never liked her and most probably that's being the reason of my instant preference for madhu, else, as an actor I'm not too fond of sonee singh! but still like to play the devil's advocate, i guess roops too was suffering at some level, mainly AS ignorance being the reason, she was a child still seeking shelter! Umm,,do i make sense..lol. nevertheless, she has some of the scenes in her kitty where dutta is at his smiling best! and the only one from the patil clan except from baaji and AS to share scree space with garage mechanic dutta! a very effort ful post rosie, applause!
