hey friends! thank u all for all the comments as well as the wishes. i am much better now and back to work on monday today and i realise how much backlog is there 😔! Anyway, i thought i must come and comment since i have been missing out on all the discussions for a very long time. I think though Ganpat is a very selfish character who would be the last person you'd ever want to see anyone apologizing to, the fact also is that that was perhaps the only time in his life, where he wasn't lying. But like Dutta said very respectfully in the episode, "his previous actions" or inactions left very little scope for trust and everyone, including Babi and Naku believed he was the culprit. Personally, I too think Dutta was not the one who needed to apologize but Roops and Leela (no matter what, blaming him for stealing Naku's jewelry was a big accusation -- especially since it was a conspiracy). But still, I admire the fact that he apologized. That is so in-character of what we know him to be. He carries the guilt of the actions of his loved ones when they have wronged someone because, when I read these episodes (and watched the ones that we all saw), I realised that he sees his loved ones as a part of himself. Their mistake is his mistake -- moreover, he believes the onus of doing justice lies with him and because he has been blindly believing people, he feels all the more responsible for it.
Ani's point about Babi living with Ganpat - difficult to understand but then we have thousands of women who live with abusive husbands, taking what they do. They fight or submit but don't leave their husbands. It is something we may never understand. The only benefit I could give a really selfish leech like Ganpat is that he acts keeping himself at the center most of the times - More's case for instance - but he does not "intend" to harm his family. He does not plot to harm them. His acts are selfish and they affect his relationships and the lives of the people, but there is no intention or conspiracy. Even with More, he wanted to save his skin and so blackmailed Naku into it. But he did not "set it up". Same here with Dutta. He thinks he can "grow" if Dutta is pleased with him and when Naku asked them to leave and did not believe him, his 'selfishness' blinded him completely to her pain. Dutta may be slow, but i think he is very astute when it comes to "feeling" the reactions of people. For him, the moment he heard Roops say the truth - it was a mix of disgust and guilt. I loved how he felt suffocated standing with the sisters while they were telling him of the great plan - inspite of having forgiven them for everything else. I think this was about Naku - about giving her family a clean chit - about the shame that he knew Naku and Babi had faced and lived with although no one ever brought it up again. And the first person he wanted to see was Naku. But it took him a moment to actually bring himself to face her and tell her what the truth was.
For once, I also thought that Naku did not 'forgive' the sisters out of her 'mahanta' and I am glad she did not say it verbally "maaf kar do Saab". She was very real when she said, she cannot decide because to her both sides mean equally. Moreover, she herself has wronged Ganpat in this matter. Was a moving moment as a woman for her i am sure.
One question: We all know Ganpat is good for nothing, selfish and we all hate him, but is there something we can credit him for (not that I do personally, but a thought that came to my mind as i was thinking if we are being too critical of him)... he may be a selfish man, but there have been moments when he has been a 'concerned' man... 1. while running away from More; 2. while cajoling Naku into leaving Dutta for the sake of her own self after Kala threw her out the first morning. 3. The Anna man mandir sequence where he went with Naku.. 4. And of course, the fact that he hadn't really stolen his daughter's Jewelry (the memory of his dialogue about being a chor and all, made me wonder).. has he really been a "negative" father? just a thought..
And of course, a warm silent hug can speak volumes as we saw with Dutta and Naku - a healing hug. One moment I really felt Dutta's heavy heart and Naku's calm coming together😳
About the episode tonight: I need to proof read it. I hope i'll be able to do it in time. At work right now and could take a while. If i am unable to, then i shall upload it slightly later in the night. I hope it will be fine with u all.
Cheers and Love!
