Thank you all for having responded in so much earnest to my post, deeply touched.
I'm so glad we are finding ways of connecting to real social problems thru this wonderful trek called LTL. Its again the writers who have come up with a track that can provoke so much thought. It goes much beyond our MR=Dutta obsessions. I guess this is also why we are so fiercely loyal to this original LTL. Its because in the visualization of scenes where volumes are conveyed thru unspoken gestures, silence and eye expressions, we are given the freedom to think on our own. Interpret and get involved in multiple layers whith the script. This discussion for example.
@LuvPremeer4ever, Yes its reality that a woman will go to any extremes for her husband and children. There are some who pose nude for art students for a daily wage that would probably not even buy us a double scoop of our favourite ice cream flavour. You speak of Hiv. In India a considerable number of Hiv patients are known as passive victims. They are the faithful wives who contact the disease from their promiscous husbands. Hapless, helpless individuals who are ostracused by society thru no fault of theirs. we can have a proper discussion on that if all agrees in some form some time. Awareness generation is happenning. But there is not much being done with that awareness in the places where its really needed.
Yes, there are many countries where Prostitution is legal. There are some such countries in South America. legalisation at least helps the women get access to Medical and health related help. Also they enjoy some sort of rights, which is so lacking here.
@Shivansh, Yes this could have been such a meaningful track. But then well... what can be said? I loved your analogy of a symphony. Loved that post.
@Zuby, Thanks. I'm glad Dutta's trying to make a difference.
As for D=AB for you, I was just musing... how about cloning him taking inspiration from Rajanikant's Robot? We could all have our fantasies... 😳
@Dewdrop, I know what you mean. But Aggressive behaviour and foul language in them is mainly an act of self defense thru forced aggression, an adaptaion to adjust to the lives they have little hope of escaping from.
And on a lighter vein, we did find something to laugh about in the maha epi too. Thank God Dutta is such a GADHA. And don't we love him for being one!
@ Lekz, Thanks so much dear for your comments. But must admit, I did not really fight for their cause. Didn't do anything that can be called praiseworthy. I was involved in the whole sex workers right (workers rights) movement an observer you may say. It was a national level upheaval then. Many promises were made by ministers but almost none kept. And slowly things petered down. s I said, I got involved because primarily it came my way as an assignment. Then yes, I got deeply moved by things. But at the end of the day, Prostitution makes news only when tagged with some scandal or other 'social/political/economic' interests. With the petering out of the workers rights issue, my assignments moved on to other things. Unfortunately, we as a society really don't care much about these women. News moves on to jucier things.
@ Bandbajao, Since you have researched on the issue, you may be able to relate in more ways to what I am trying to say. As a woman, it feets so demeaning to see another woman treated like a cheap and dispensable comodity. Somewhere in your mind it becomes a personal affront.
They say its the oldest trade. A pschychiatrist friend of mine thinks as because Food and sex are the two most primal Human necessities, its almost impossible to root it out. But As you say, legislation on prostitution is so vague in our country, that the ones trapped have no basic rights whatsoever. whatever little legal ground they have, most can't use because of lack of proper informaton and awareness. It also makes them easy prey for the keepers of the law. There are NGO's who are working in this sector but for them too its such an uphill task. The presence of some posers in this sector who are more interested in the international aid available that the women themselves have also complicated matters.
I have not much first hand information about the Middle east business.Would very much appreciate whatever insights you provide.
