Well Lekz dear, some people ditch good things so much that they get used to staying deep down in ditch and then screaming for HELLPPP!!!! 😆 What can we do... The man who could save them has clearly moved on 😆 unless they beg and plead and do as he commands! 😆
BB : Pray they plead, beg whatever...and bring him back...it HURTS BIG TIME to see what we are missing...and whats being served...
To those 'Some People' For Pete's sake...wake up and open your freaking eyes...Its not too late...everything is possible after all there is very little logic and reason one can ask for on TV...

A wonderful & also painful episod. The most important thing about Datta's character is his soul, which has remained pure in his profession, which has stopped him from doing wrong in underworld. If others whom he killed, were not stopped then Datta's story would have been different. Such powerful story & character, wish this was happening in real LTL. He has only Naku to heal him, understand him.
BB you are an amazing writer, thank you very much, for D-N The Real Eaternal Story.😊

Guys. I don't know if this is the right note after such a mind churning maha epi and that fav GADHA VM of Aparna's. But todays episode has brought back memories and no, not just of MR=Dutta. But want to share this.

In the course of my work I have interacted with many women who we call sex workers. Have seen them up close, known them personally. Thats why, when this track started to take shape I wanted it to go deep into the seriousness of the issue. I know thats not possible, as LTL has its own flow. But seeing Dutta's inner turmoil, his remorse, his utter loathing of men involved in this business, I was deeply moved. Because in reality, even if people share Dutta's loathing, they don't have the courage to stand up, let alone wage a war against the flesh trade single (Baji included) handedly.

I remember the first time I was handed the assignment, I was more than sceptical. In a way I was more uneasy about how I will react to them, given our biases, than anything alse. Was a lot younger then. It was a meet where some of the Babu's or men who remain 'faithful' and form alliances with their chosen sex partners were to come out in the open for the first time. You see, there are men who go to a brothel for pleasure. For them any partner will do. Others seek out only one single person. At times they marry, have children. But these relationships almost never get to the stage where the woman gets any social or legal rights. For us Men who go to brothels are always faceless. That was one instance, when some had agreed to come out in the open and aknowledge their association.

There I first started to get to know these women. Teens, young girls, middle aged, and yes old. Girls from Bangladesh and Nepal. Some very pretty, some not much of a looker. But in this trade your looks are not what a man comes to you for, And the more I got to know them, the more I realised they are just like you and me. With their dreams, their talents, their opinions, their knowledge. You would be surprised how educated, well read and well informed some of the girls/women are. There was this particular middle aged lady, who had such command over vedas and puran and ancient India studies. She sang very well too. But where a sex worker differs from you and me is in the persual or realisation of their dreams. Some of you are shocked at how girls are smuggled. What is more shocking is where they land up and what they are forced to do. Even more tragic, they have no option but to resign to the forces dictating their lives. And in their daily struggle for survival, they at times actually get addicted to their work. Become nonchalant. They go past caring because they feel society has simply used them and then just forgotten completely.

Just imagine, if your body is the only means of earning your bread, and Dallas and customers and police are the sole authority to decide how that body is to be used? Here our Imagination fails miserably, right? be it chilling cold, the height of monsoon or heat, young girls caked with makeup, looking older than their mothers stand by the roadside hoping to catch a customer for her own survival. After she earns, the Dallas, the police all come to claim their share of her earnings. I could go on for ever. But the most pathetic lot falls on the children of sex workers and those women who can no longer be called young. These women have to simply depend on someone else's mercy. Some turn bullies. But they are minuscule in nos. For these aged women there are almost no options left. They turn to begging or turn house helps but almost always under a false identity. As because most of us wouldn't want an ex sex worker to work for us, right? Most suffer from chronic cases of STD. But medical help is mostly unavailable or unaffordable.

I have known children who have been repeatedly abused in all possible ways just because their mothers are in the trade. Bachchu happens to be a sex workers son. He was a grown man when I first met him. There was this whole movement of sex workers demanding workers rights. But that movement has also petered out. Another example of society and government trying to pretend these women don't exist.

For the women the stigma stays even after their deaths. But the Men who go to them daily are people who we interact with all the time. They are integral part of our society.

Sorry guys, have rambled long enough.

OMG Moontide...what a BRILLIANT post by you! It was fantastic read! To be frank, like many, even I used to judge these sex workers, prostitutes, etc., and used to feel disgusted by them, when I was younger. Especially the way they behave, talk, I used to find it very cheap. But over the years, I have realised they are also human beings with simple dreams and desires in them, like any one of us. They have come a long way in life, that after a point it becomes very difficult to go back, even if they have an option. There can be many reasons for this, either it can be an issue of basic survival itself, where you have no other option of earning a livelihood in the society, or because the society will not accept them thereafter, especially our Indian society. Actually such things also have certain spiritual connotations, which am not elaborating here, as I dont know how many people might be able to relate to it. But the truth or the reality is that, majority of the people are judgmental, the society in general is judgemental, which makes life miserable for such people, EVEN if they have come out of the hell. So I would say, though initially many of them might be forced to be sex workers, later they themselves stay back inspite of having options to fled, as their life might be a bigger hell if they go into the society, after everything that has happened to them in the past.

What emerges is a soulful composition 👏😍and it gets difficult for me to find words to praise it everytime. Wish we could watch it onscreen😔

I am saying it again ---Millions should have watched this. What an irony that a few unlucky ones did not see what we 200 saw...but as they say 'Bandar kya jaane adrak ka swad'.

Its ironic that a so called issue based channel did not see an issue in women trafficking. These episodes would have generated so much awareness.

@ blue - Very well said, Ships 👏! Really, the channel boasts of handling "only" social themes and messages, and instead of choosing something like this which would be one of the most meaningful social messages which our society really needs to be aware of, they chose to show love story between that Deegu and Nakku, when the essence of LTL itself was Dutta's and Nakku's journeys in life, and journey towards each other. I wasnt aware of this aspect of flesh trade, where women were drugged and transported this way. But this episode proved to be an eye opener for me. So am sure, there would be many out there who might not be aware of all this, so by showing something like this on screen through a channel, it would have definitely changed the way lot of people percieve this profession.

@Moontide that was a heart wrenching post. And so true when you look around this world, slime and sleeze has reached levels unfathomable. I recently got to read an article on Philippines, Thailand and some of the neighboring places, the plight of women there is disgusting and shocking. To say we are the most sophisticated and intelligent species on earth is an irony. Sometimes I feel like a hypocrite unable to do anything except sympathize. As you rightly pointed out, not many have it in them to stand up to fight the cause. And I think its more like a leaky pipe, you fix something somewhere and another opens up. I am aware of a number of organizations that are working in the background to route this disease and make the world a better place. Many I understand have sacrificed their lives for this cause.

That you are doing something for the cause is laudable. Its great service. 👏👏👏

So rightly said "For the women the stigma stays even after their deaths. But the Men who go to them daily are people who we interact with all the time. They are integral part of our society. "

The ones we interact at work, homes, friend circles…everywhere…

Moontide that was indeed something that stirred me from within as i read it! I have seen some of the worst things happening to, in years when i used to go researching... have seen minor girls being rescued by cops from a small 2x2 duct without ventilation where they were kept for 2 days without food... almost half-dead... your description of what goes through their lives really did shake me completely, despite knowing how it is... Here in Mumbai, last month in Kamathipura, which is the red light area of the city, women sex workers' were dispossessed from their homes by builders ... their belongings thrown on the road by muscle-men as they wanted to raise the little shanties where they lived and make high rises and they thought anyway these women are not worthy of respect... the fact is that they are there because many men like them need to go to these women to satiate their insatiable desire for "flesh" if i may put it in crude words... sexual exploitation of sex workers and yes, India has the most vague status as far as prostitutes are concerned.. sex in exchange of money is not illegal, but organizing this trade is... so what does that mean? women who still have to take this route to feed their children are seen as "disgusting" creatures... (yes, you are right they do take it up not out of their will, but get sucked into it eventually... there are very few women who would really "want" to go down that road... And, those who really need the money do it out of compulsion, even earning may be only about Rs 300 per customer and that is sufficient for one meal for their families... But, women trafficking for sexual slavery (for which girls are mostly sold to the Middle-East... the younger, the bigger the price) is very different from this ... i can say that that is perhaps an even ghastlier form of this wicked business...

On the sides, it is really nice to see that we are discussing something so relevant about how many unfortunate women are treated across the world.

@red: so true... often the worst part of this whole thing is being able to rehabilitate a woman who has been "kidnapped" or "pushed into it"... it is almost never that she can lead a normal life... the scars of the horror apart, the social stigma still exists ... not everyone thinks with their heads and these women are not acceptable to most people... sad that the society makes them what they are and then shuns them...
