Hi All,
Its my turn to do the DOTW for this week. But usually DOTW dont get much of a response. So I got the permission of the Dev team to have something like Discussion of the Day instead of having a DOTW. So here is my topic for today's discussion.
We all know siblings are an important part of our lives. For most of us our siblings are our best friends. For some they are our worst enemies. But love them or hate them we cannot ignore them.
In the context of LTL we have seen Dutta's and Naku's siblings have had a profound influence on their life choices. For Nakusha her elder sister's choices dictated how Naku chose to spend her formative teenage years. For Dutta he chose to remain in his 'dhanda' not only to protect his own life but also to provide for a luxurious life for his sisters.
But have we really wondered what these two characters think about their siblings? While the show has explored the relationship of Naku and Dutta with their mothers it has never answered what they think of their siblings except the very basic details. But most importantly the show has always kept Dutta's relationship with Kala very open-ended IMO. We saw him feel upset when she burnt her hand to pray for him. We saw him shed tears when she took a bullet during Naku's target practice scene to stop his madness. We saw him get her back home after revelation about his parentage. We saw him keep quiet every time she sent a veiled insult towards Naku or Supriya out of respect for her. We saw him quietly listen to her advice on his business and personal life. Finally we saw him ask her to look after his Nakusha. Yet we saw him brush her off when she tried to stop his wedding out of rage with Nakusha. We saw him tell her not to interfere in his personal life after his first wedding. We saw him break ties with her when he caught her insulting Nakusha. So what does Kala Tai mean to Dutta?

My questions are:
What did Dutta think of Kala before he got to know that she had plotted to kill him? Dutta always seemed a bit stand-offish from his sisters esp Kala preferring his own company to theirs right from the start. Do you think somewhere deep down he realized their hostility towards them?
Do you think that catching Kala red handed bad mouthing Naku had already soured his relationship with her and hence the latest revelation wasnt as big a blow as it should have been?
Every time Dutta kept quiet while Kala insulted Nakusha or him(abt his father) do you think he did not understand her veiled insults or he chose to ignore them and keep quiet? If he chose to keep quiet why do you think he did so?
Do you think Dutta brought Kala back to PN out of guilt and hence wasnt surprised by her hatred for him in the latest revealation?

Hey Shreya!!
A very interesting topic for discussion....I personally believe that Dutta respected Kala the most after AS but he was aware of her personality traits very well....her impulsive nature, her vile comments and her taunts. But i'm sure never in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine that she would try to kill him in her vengeance and would be full of so much venom against him. But after hearing it from the horse's mouth itself.....i guess he's in pain but has finally come to realize her truth.
I guess when Dutta brought her back to PN after the DP episode...it was out of guilt....but the only reason he distanced himself from his sisters was bcoz his nature and attitude towards humanity was way different from his sisters.........he couldn't connect to them personality wise but being a loving brother he always fulfilled his responsibilities to the fullest.

Interesting topic!
Well i think Dutta chose his own company rather thrs because that was his personality. He isn;t very social. But he always considered Kala to be a well wisher and if thr was anything bad coming out of her mouth he didn;t thnk that it was cuz she was bad or anything but just that her personality impulsive and she would just respond to situations like that.
And i think he respected her alot and placed her right next to AS.

I knew you would talk about Kala! Will come back at the end of the day to post something substantial!

EDIT: I think that Dutta has been so away from truly connecting with his siblings, always embroiled in his business and so forth, that he never actually sensed any hostility from his sisters. Somehow, knowing that 2 of his sisters are married etc, he probably didn't really feel the need to mingle with them, knowing they had their own relationships to attend to, which could explain the 'stand-offishness' you mentioned. But most importantly, he has been so cooped up, trying to eliminate the hurt and pain, sinking in the emotions created by Seema's betrayal, that it may have marred his ability to UNDERSTAND when someone is being sly/deceitful/2 faced etc etc....perhaps because he has failed to develop in that social aspect- knowing how to distinguish when someone is playing around with you. A basic thing lacking from him, has been instantly connecting with someone, something that Naku, a complete stranger, was able to do so effortlessly with him. Hope I'm making sense!

I think that maybe Kala's insults to Naku etc probably did create a slight apprehension/doubt in him...but it hasn't been shown...but Kala is such a character, any doubt that might have been created, would have been diminished with her meethi zubaan. Her ability to talk to Dutta, calm him down, advise him etc, probably didn't sour his r'ship with her therefore. He knew she was opinionated, mouthy, so probably took it as her personality trait and decicded to not dwell on it. If somewhere inside him, he chose to keep mum about any insults he deemed directed at him by her, then it would probably would have been for AS. Thats probably the reason why he brought Kala back- to ensure the family dynamics remain balanced because Kala was such a 'figure' in PN and was perceived in a positive light by everyone, particularly Leela and Roops, that getting rid of her, would have created doom and gloom in PN....something again Kala may have used- Leela and Roops dependency on her....

In all this, one thing seems to be quite clear, for me at least- Dutta's hatred has prevented him from understanding human relationships to a certain extent...which is why he did get a jhatka when all was revealed about Kala. Kala on the other hand, knows exactly which buttons to push. She may know how to use different people in terms of their attributes, but she lacks that knowledge about the strengths of relationships and how much power love possesses....

Hey Ksh,
Firsly very interesting topic👍🏼
My POV - The emotional convo. between AS & Dutta in 29th march episode ,told us that how since childhood he was helping AS in managing the house. At a very tender age he had to become man of the house.so he never had the chance to play with his sisters or to talk with them like normally the other kids do .Infact for him ,it was always work, work & more work. That doesn't mean he had no concerns for his sisters, infact he provided them with everything best(roops rakhi scene was proof).
But,there was no expressive bonding ,no brother-sister fights like it happen in normal families.Always i felt there was awakwardness between him & the sisters.
As for Kala, she was someone he always looked upto after AS.He thought of her as more sensible person amongst the three.Though he was aware of her bitter tougue ,but then he had accepted it as her personality. She was the only one who had the hold over him or should i say he had intentinally given her that hold out of respect.
But,i saw the first hint of confusion on his face about her sensibility, when she tried to stop him to get nakku back from Anna.Even though he thought she is more hurt becaz of nakku's betrayal to him in sup. case(which BTW was very naive of him),he never thought of her as a person, who will stop him from saving a girl's life. That is not his tai,but he didn't say anything ,he just accepted her wish temperorily.
But,the next blow came pretty soon, which showed him the side of his sister that he never imagined.
He was more hurt than angry at Kala, for the way she insulted nakku & AS both.I get tears in my eyes everytime i hear him say - bachpan se leke aaj tak natak kar rahi thi Tai?😭
So,i think that time the blow was more strong.
But,after DP track he realised the reason of Kala's behaviour,so he got her back in PN.
He had accepted her hate ,becaz he realised he was the root cause of it.But,he never thought she will try to take his life in her hate.
He knew, she didn't like nakku ,but still he accepted her dislike as well.
So,when finally he came to know about her venom from her own mouth, there was no doubt for confusion. He had to accept the fact that she is after his life. But,this revealation didn/t hurt him that much, becaz by now he had known about her hate.plus, the way kala treated nakku was also not hidden from him.
Lastly, even though he has taken the vow to take revenge against her,i am bit in dilemma that when the actual time comes will he able to do it or will he just spare her life becaz of AS & Kishore & most imp. Anay.I guess we will see that in coming episodes.😊
OOPs,bada lamba bhashan likh diya😆,read at ur own risk.😉

Nice topic Shreya.

I wish bit more was shown about the growing up years of Dutta & Kala. But Kala would have been more open about her hatred in her younger years. The poise & subterfuge would have been acquired later. So in his heart of hearts D would have had learned to be wary of her very early. I found his reaction during DP time to be not that explosive,I felt he was pained to hear out loud what he had always suspected deep within. So even now he seems more pained than shocked.
But this being a soap relationships are not delved into this much detail.
On the other hand some men are standoffish by their very nature. My oldest brother is also a man of few words. Its always an effort to make him even laugh. Not that he has any huge issue in his life but that's his nature. There is a vast difference in how he behaves with our older sister & me.Theirs is a formal & polite convo though both care for each other very much. But with me its pulling my hair or my cheeks. So may be its only respect D felt for Kala due to the age difference & had no idea about her thirst for his blood.

What did Dutta think of Kala before he got to know that she had plotted to kill him?

- I think he was thinking that she likes him but doesn't love him like a brother because of the true from Duttas father

Dutta always seemed a bit stand-offish from his sisters esp Kala preferring his own company to theirs right from the start. Do you think somewhere deep down he realized their hostility towards them?

-Maybe like they always hurted Nakku, maybe he was thinkiing why only with her because I love her??? im not sure but I think maybe yes because of their behaviers…

Do you think that catching Kala red handed bad mouthing Naku had already soured his relationship with her and hence the latest revelation wasnt as big a blow as it should have been?

-It was a big blow like it have to be…he was just spechless

Every time Dutta kept quiet while Kala insulted Nakusha or him(abt his father) do you think he did not understand her veiled insults or he chose to ignore them and keep quiet? If he chose to keep quiet why do you think he did so?

-I think he wants to keep quiet because he really loves her like a older sis and that's why im sure he wanted not to misbehave with hiss older sister
Do you think Dutta brought Kala back to PN out of guilt and hence wasnt surprised by her hatred for him in the latest revealation?

-I think he really just broguht her back becausee of guilt…and im sure he was confused about kala that she really likes him or not

Nice DOTW Shreya…😊

@Pooja: Thanks for the long answer. I think you have put across an interesting point. Due to Dutta getting busy with work, work and more work since childhood he didnt get a chance to bond with his sisters like normal siblings do. Hence the awkwardness between them.

@Zuby: Even I wonder if they will ever show or even talk about Dutta's childhood with his ssiters. Recently they delved into Kala's issues from childhood. I hope we get to see things from Dutta's POV since as you said the subterfuge would have come in later when Kala grew old enough to carry it out.
