Hi Liz,
Thank you for the lovely words, it means a lot. I will confess that I would love to emulate, sometimes, your posts steeped in pure romanticism. Our hearts do need the occasional balm as well. 😊😊
To come back to your post, we are all scared for Nakusha and it is justified too as irrespective of the "denouement" of her conversation/confessions (if any) to Dutta and his response/interpretation thereto, the fact remains that she is just not ready and never expected to ever be called upon to take Kala or any other member of the PN household at any other level but that of her relations by virtue of her marriage to Dutta. Were resolve and love ever enough to safeguard what is most important in our lives, life would be a piece of cake in reality and on the silver screen isn't it?
What is commendable in Nakusha's story is her ability to make complete abstraction of her own being (because of her undying devotion, gratitude, love and awe for Dutta) to absolve him of all his sins and place him above everything and everybody around her. You equated Nakusha to Shiv's Parvati, I am more inclined to compare her with Satyavan's Savitri who puts her life on the line to bring her husband back from the jaws of death. And that is one of the central traits of her character. As per the purohit she is Dutta's shield and irrespective of whether she has a choice or not, it is her fate (however cliched it sounds in reality) as Dutta is not just a husband per se but "her life and everything that touches it" as mentioned in the 1st paragraph of my post. She owes him, after all, for a life that a girl of her origins and "appearance" until the FR and even after for that matter, would have ever dared dream about. One may argue that, however, destitute a woman is, she does not deserve to be ill-treated, but Dutta accepting her wholeheartedly in spite of all the odds and the oddballs (Babi, Ganpath---) in her life pre PN should be motivation enough to take up the challenge and face up to Kala. She cannot be beaten by her fear, her husband's life and happiness, more than her own and her need to vindicate herself in Dutta's eyes, are at stake. So she will not fail.
I am happy that you mentioned Chanakya and Nakusha, symbolically, gulping down that "ashshake". However gross it looked at that point, it was to show that Nakusha despite all the differences and misunderstandings separating her from Dutta, has really merged her identity with that of Dutta's as per the traditional beliefs of joining two individuals fate and lives through the rituals of marriage as wished by AS.
On another note, I would be happy to see the teachings of Chanakya and his legacy to find a more positive resonance in day to day life in reality, and on the silver screen as well for a better understanding of human nature. In the case of LTL and this should reassure all those who fear for Nakusha, she has and will continue to, as per Chanakya, "learn from the mistakes of others'you can't live long enough to track them all yourselves". And in the case of Kala, she should have known, again as per Chanakya, that "The biggest guru-mantra is "Never share your secrets with anybody. It will destroy you."
And this is irrevocable. LTL is after all an e-LS. 😊
