Dutta had accepted her and Naku felt this sense of love and relief flood her emotions. And she could not hide it. Her face, her eyes spoke volumes about what was happening inside of her heart.
Dutta led her to the sofa. Dutta and she talked for some time, about each other, about their relationship, broken many times by stolen glances and an appreciation for what they had before them.
Before long, Dutta got up and led Naku downstairs. "Chal" he said. She knew what lay ahead. Dutta had accepted her as his wife and now he wanted his family to know of his faisla. He held Naku's hand as he walked down the stairs, looking straight ahead at his family, all of whom were still gathered in the formal room. Kala, her sisters, and Sudharshan turned to see Bhao and...at first it did not register. Kishore, AS, and Baji just stared at the sight coming towards them...It was a disconnect but sure enough, Dutta spoke soon, and spoke with an authority and assuredness that they had known of Bhao. He said that he had come to an important decision, perhaps the most important one in his life. He looked at Naku, and then looked at his family and said that Naku is his patni, will remain his patni, and that woh shaadi mantha tha. And that it was his wish that his family do the same.
Everyone was shocked; aghast at Bhao's decision, but moreso at the sight of the girl next to him. "Yeh kya Bhao," Kala said. "Naku? What game is this of yours? Humare ghar mein rahi thi, aur..." she continued.
Dutta raised his hand up, the gesture enough to stop Kala. "Tai" he said, as he looked around, "Naku ne mereko sub bata diya hai...jo usne kiya, woh thik kiya. She hid her face from the world before me to protect herself, and when she was with me in this house to protect my trust in her...now mein sub janta hu, sub samajtha hu."
The sisters were riled up. This was not something they had anticipated. "Bhao, usne kaese yeh chupa diya tumhare se?" Dutta responded "Jo hua, Tai, woh hogaya. Ab bhul ja, jaise main bhul jaunga. Naku meri patni hai aur who mera faisla hai".
Baji was stunned but happy. He knew in his heart that Bhao had crossed a big hurdle in his life: knowing his heart and accepting Naku's love. He smiled to himself...Dutta Bhao was in love and was loved in the way that he longed for.
AS got up. She smiled at Dutta and then Naku. She placed her hand on Naku's face and said, all the while looking at Dutta, "if this is your decision, then I am happy. Ap kush ho, to main kush hu." She then looked at Naku and said, "Jo hua is ghar mein...mereko bahut sharam ati hai. Maaf karna, Naku beti", and she gave Naku a hug.
Kala was NOT happy. But she was smart enough to know she could not change anything happening before her. And she was smart enough to know that she had to play along. Kishore had a smile on his face, assured that Bapa had put Bhao was on his way to becoming the mahaan insaan he always had it in him to be. And he was deeply affected by how Naku and Dutta's love had won.
Naku spent some time with Babi and Sethji in their old room. She chose to eat with them, spend some time with them, allowing Dutta to have dinner with his family and smooth out any issues before they erupted. Kala had excused herself to tend to Anay, and Kishore had followed shortly thereafter. Dutta remained downstairs, talking with AS and Leela, Suds, and Roops. Baji had gone to tend to the bodyguards and security arrangements.
An hour or so later, Naku emerged to where Dutta was with AS and the rest of the family. AS said to Naku, "Beti, aaj se tu is ghar ki bahu hai...mera Dutta ki patni. Now it is your duty to love and care for him." She smiled, and walked away to her room. "Chal Leela, Roops." They all left, leaving Bhao and Naku. Bhao took Naku's hand and led her to the garden. Both just walked hand in hand, quietly, happily, and peacefully. Many a time, words were just not necessary between them. They just savored each other's presence, closeness, and touch.
Dutta looked at Naku, and and led her back into the house. She looked at him, smiled shyly yet assuredly. Baji was talking with the bodyguards posted near the stairs to Dutta's room about various things, including Naku and her family and what the new developments meant for who can enter Dutta and Naku's room. He smiled at Bhao and told Naku and him that he was happy for them, that his vahini was here, that he had taken care of Naku's security arrangements, and those of her family.
Dutta and Naku were appreciative of Baji's love, of the generosity of his love for both of them. Baji hugged the both of them, and walked away. Dutta and Naku made it to the room, opened the door...only to find it beautifully decorated with flowers, candles. Beautiful and simple. Both were astounded, but innately knew who had arranged for this, and what it meant. It was to be their first night together...
