I shudn't have called Myth but there r some ppl who think Mahabharat never actually happened so there has been lot of discussion abt this.
As told to us by teachers Kurukshetra(near haryana) is the battle field where Mahabharat in reality happend n Kurukshetra actually exists so is Mathura where lord krishna born. There r many places which r named in History actually exits so i don't why some call it only "Myth"

u can read further abt Kurukshetra n history here

u can read here more abt Mahabharat being Myth or reality

Academically speaking, a myth is a traditional story. It may or may not be true. Personally I think these particular myths are based on true events. They are probably not literally true though. 😊

Mahabharat is a great epic written in Sanskrit. It has 1 lakh shlokas (verses). It was written by sage Ved Vyas. I am writing its story below in very brief because writing in detail will take several pages.
Shantanu and Ganga
There was a king named Shantanu. He ruled over Hastinapur. He married goddess Ganga, who had taken birth on Earth as a woman. Before marriage, Ganga put a condition to Shantanu that he would never criticize her for her actions; otherwise she would leave him. Shantanu agreed and they got married.
One after another Ganga gave birth to seven children. Immediately after the birth of each child, she threw it in river. Shantanu was pained but kept quiet because of the condition Ganga had put before marriage.
Ganga gave birth to eighth child. Ganga took the child and went towards river. Shantanu, who had lost his seven children, could not tolerate any more. He burst out and scolded Ganga a lot. Thus he broke his promise. Ganga said that she would leave him. She said that she would not kill the child but would take him with her and give to the king at right time.
The child was named Devavrat. Ganga took him to sage Parshuram, who became Devavrat's guru.
Devavrat returns to Shantanu
When Devavrat became youth, then he returned to Shantanu. He was very handsome and brave. He was an expert in using weapons. He was very good natured and was knowledgeable in various branches of study of that time.
Shantanu sees Satyavati
One day, Shantanu saw a very beautiful lady. Her name was Satyavati. Her father was a ferryman. Shantanu wanted to marry Satyavati. But her father put a condition that the future son of Shantanu and Satyavati would be the king of Hastinapur after Shantanu. Shantanu knew that it would be injustice to Devavrat. Therefore, he did not agree to the condition and came back to his palace. He was very sad. Devavrat investigated and found the reason why his father was so sad.
Devarat becomes Bhism and Shantanu marries Satyavati
Devavrat went to Satyavat's father.
He said, "I have come here to take mother Satyavati. I promise that her and my father's son would be future king of Hastinapur. I will never stake my claim on the throne.
Satyavati's father said, "Prince, I know that you are truthful. You have made promise and you will keep it. But when you have children and they grow up, then they may stake claim on the throne of Hastinapur."
Devavrat said, "I will not have any children. I take vow that I will remain celibate whole of my life."
Because of such grand vow, Devavrat was known as Bhism because the word Bhism means grand.
Since Devavrat took such a vow, Sayavati's father now had no objection against the marriage. Shantanu and Satyavati got married.
Chitrangad
Satyavati gave birth to two sons Chitrangad and Vichitravirya. Chitrangad was elder. He was very much interested in battles and was always waging war against other kings. One day, he was killed in a battle.
Vichitravirya's marriage
After Chintrangad, Vichitravirya became king. He was not of very young age and was often ill. Therefore, Bhism helped him in running the kingdom. When Vichitravirya grew up, then Bhism wanted to get him married. He came to know that the king of Kashi was planning to get his three daughters married. The daughters were Amba, Ambika and Ambalika. Bhism went to Kashi. He said that he wanted the three ladies to marry Vichitravirya. If anybody wanted, he could stop him. Many other kings and princes had come for marriage. They all waged war against Bhism. Bhism defeated all of them. One of the kings was Salv. He and Amba loved each other.
Bhism brought the three ladies to Hastinapur. Amba said that she loved Salv and had accepted him as her husband in her heart. When Bhism came to know this, then he gave her permission to go to Salv. Ambika and Ambalika married Vichitravirya. Amba happily went to Salv. Salv refused to marry her. He said that he had lost Amba in war and, therefore, could not accept her now.
Amba went to Bhism. She now wanted to marry Bhism. Bhism refused because he had taken the vow of celibacy.
Amba went to Devavrat's guru sage Parshuram and requested him to do justice. Parshuram said to Bhism that he should either marry Amba or face him in battle. Bhism chose the later.
Bhism and Parshuram fought. Both were experts in war. Finally, Bhism had a chance to kill Parshuram. Out of respect for his guru, he decided not to kill him. Parashurama was pleased with Bhism because Bhism respected him. He did not force Bhism any further to marry Amba.
Birth of Dhritarashtra
Ambika and Ambalika married Vichitravirya. Before they had any child, Vichitravirya died because he was not well. Satyavati was worried who would rule over Hastinapur now. She got an idea. Before her marriage with Shantanu, she had a son from sage Parashar. Parashar and Satyavati had a son. By now that son was grown up and had become great sage Ved Vyas. Satyavati called Ved Vyas and asked him to produce child from Ambika. (In those days, it was permitted.) Ved Vyas was performing a ritual, because of which he was looking very terrible. He asked Satyavati to wait till the ritual was over. But Satyavati did not agree. Ved Vyas went to Ambika's room. When Ambika saw Ved Vyas, then she was frightened on seeing Ved Vyas's form and closed her eyes out of fear. Since she closed her eyes, therefore she gave birth to a blind son, who was named Dhritarashtra.
Birth of Pandu
When Satyavati came to know that Ambika's son was blind since birth, she asked Ved Vyas to produce a child from Ambalika. When Ambalika saw Ved Vyas, then she became pale out of fear. Therefore, her son Pandu was pale since birth. He was suffering from a disease called Pandu. It is said that this disease is same as or similar to jaundice.
Birth of Vidur
Since Ambalika's son was suffering from a disease since his birth, therefore Satyavati once again sent Ved Vyas to Ambika's room. But Ambika sent her maid servant to her room. Ved Vyas and the maid servant had a son, who was named Vidur.
Pandu becomes king
Bhism himself taught Dhritarashtra, Pandu and Vidur. Dhritarashtra was physically very strong. Pandu became knowledgeable in archery and various other weapons. Vidur was interested in shastras (spirituality) and he became knowledgeable in shastras.
When they grew up, then one of them had to become king. Dhritarashtra was blind and could therefore not become king. Vidur was the son of a maid servant and, therefore, could not become king. Moreover, he was himself not interested in becoming king. Only Pandu was left. Pandu also was weak in body because of disease. But, of the three, he was considered the best choice and he became king.

I will post the rest later.
