Doctors say it will take her a long time for 10-year-old Asma to get back to normalcy |
The outrage over what happened to ten-year-old Asma is now becoming a campaign for stricter laws against eve teasers. Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Choudhary is demanding stricter implementation of laws to safeguard women.
Ten-year-old Asma has been left to battle the trauma of coming under the wheels of a gang of eve teasers. Doctors say it will take her a long time to get back to normalcy.
Her plight and her mother Ayesha Sheikh's plea aired on TIMES NOW has made even the Centre take notice. Advocating tighter laws is the Women and Child Welfare Minister, Renuka Choudhary.
"Its not about making laws more stringent, it's about making sure that they are implemented. That's what's important," said Renuka Choudhary.
"Things like this get us all upset and there's been huge public outcry which has brought a lot of attention to this case. All I can say is proper justice needs to be sorted out for someone like Asma, so that we don't have another case like this again. Asma, be strong, hang in there, we're all with you," said Kelly Dorji.
"If you just take rape as a serious offence, and let molestation and eve teasing go, it's definitely sending the wrong message through. You need to inform society that this crime will not be taken lightly," said Smriti Irani.
As the campaign in support of Asma continues, when TIMES NOW tried to visit the offenders, hostile neighbours and family members tried to keep reporters away.
Should Rajendra and gang be allowed to get away or should they be given a strict punishment to set an example for other eve teasers who get away without a rap due to lax eve teasing laws?
