With Devdas bringing the resplendent glory of Bengali couture back into the limelight, here is a recreation of the vintage Bengali bride with ace make-up artist and hairstylist Prabir Kr De and Kolkata-based designer Nisha Beri.

To best depict a Bengali bride, we chose Femina Miss India Earth-2002, Reshmi Ghosh. Her large eyes, rounded hips and shy smile with her dusky complexion highlighted her understated sex appeal perfectly.

Prabir begins by cleaning her face and neck with the Herome face mask. He applies the gel-like concoction on to her face and neck, allowing it to dry for some time before peeling it off to reveal scrubbed, clean and glowing skin. According to Prabir, "No bride can afford to look anything but radiant on her wedding day", hence the need for this special cleansing process.

He then applies the Mac skin tone luminous base and blends it well into the skin. Topping the base with Mac skin tone powder, he then rubs ice cubes on the made-up area so that the make up sets in and remains fresh over a long period of time. He pats the face dry with tissue to remove the excess moisture.

For the eyes, Prabir uses a mixture of peach and pink eye shadow on the upper eyelids. To highlight Reshmi's wide eyes, he applies skin tone eye shadow below the eyebrows and liberally applies gold dust over the upper eyelids near the inner corner of the eye and then blends it in.

To bring out the beauty of her eyes, Prabir applies liquid kohl on the upper and lower lids in an almond shape, extending the corner of the upper eye line towards the eyebrows thinning it as it goes upwards. To set it well, he applies Lancome black eye shadow on the lines and uses some of it sparingly on the outer and inner corner of the upper eyelids and blends it well into the other colours. To create a dreamy effect, he uses Chambor black mascara on Reshmi's long lashes.

To contour and highlight Reshmi's face, Prabir applies bronze blush on in strokes, moving from just below the cheekbone to the temple and blends it well so that the make up looks set and neat. For the lips, he uses the Peach Body Shop lipstick and tops it with some Mac frosted copper gloss. For that typical Bengal feel, he adds the signature stick-on bindi on the forehead.

For the hair, Prabir combs Reshmi's hair straight with a hair iron and makes her wear it with a middle parting. He takes the hair from the middle of the head and combs it to make a neat bun on the top of her head. He deliberately keeps the hairstyle simple to accommodate the hair jewellery pieces that are to be worn. He places them all in synergy with the look of the bride and for an extra glow, he applies some shimmer body lotion on Reshmi's hand and feet.

Nisha Beri chooses a red sari with chikankari work matched with a Benarasi blouse and worn in a very Bengali way - the famous Devdas drape. Traditional bridal jewellery by Gaurangi completes the look.
