New article on replacement Tulsi (Dunno if its been posted..sorry if it has)
Gautami in Tulsi's shoes?
"Stepping into Smriti's shoes would be too massive a step for me." says Gautami Ram Kapoor, back from a break.
The buzz going around is that Gautami will replace Smriti Irani as Tulsi in Kyunki. The actress clarifies these rumors saying, "Honestly, this news is as shocking for me as for you guys! Tulsi is too big an iconic figure to be replaced. She is so huge and so good at what she does. Stepping into her shoes would really not be fair on anybody and for me it would be too massive a step. I don't think I'm prepared to do that right now. I don't think Smriti is going to quit Kyunki ever. All these rift between Ekta and Smriti and Smriti and Balaji are rumours created by people. Unless it is heard from Ekta or Smriti herself there is no truth to it. I don't think she is stepping down- she should not."
She has, however, been offered Balaji serials and is all praise for the production house:
"I don't know how these reports have started but they're really blown out of proportion. Yes, I have been approached by Balaji for couple of projects but I don't know what is going to materialized. I was traveling when they called me and have only just returned. Ekta too was also out of the country; she just got back. She is extremely busy as both Kasauti and Kasamh Se are taking a generation leap so we haven't had the chance to meet up and discuss it. Once we have a meeting about what is really been offered, which serial and which character then will I talk about it. For any reason if it doesn't work out or if I take on something else that does not involve Balaji it will be very disappointing to my family, friends and also viewers who are waiting to see me on TV. I have been hounded by press, people, friends and everybody about this! Right now things are on very, very preliminary stage.
Balaji and I have a very long relationship. I am very comfortable working with them and their set up. I'm going to be extremely happy if I'll make my come back with them. I'll understand the role, I'll see what I can do to my best capability and I hope that I don't let anybody down. Ekta knows my body of work she knows my temperament. She is would be able to vision which role I fit into better than I would. I'll lean towards her making a decision what role I would do"
Age is no bar when it comes to Gautami's roles:
"I'm ready to play a mother or grandmother's role. I never ever had a block. When I did Kehta Hai Dil three years ago I was playing the mother of three children. All the three children were nearly of my age! I didn't have block then so why should I have a block now. I don't fear playing an older woman. It is completely in the head. If the role requires grey hair I would do it. Look at Ronit Roy- he is doing two shows with grey hair and I don't think it has given him any set backs. Ram, my husband, who plays Jai Walia, has a streak of grey and he has an immense fan following. I don't think the colour of hair makes any difference whether they are grey, black, red or brown."
Gautami turned down previous offers because of her young daughter:
"I got offers from production houses like DJ's and few new ones. They offered me two big shows which are now on aired on Sony. That time I was not in a shape to take on any new projects because of my baby Sia was very young. I have been getting offers since Sia was of two months. But it was too much for me to take on any work; Sia was my priority at that time. Now she is bigger so I can be a little more flexible than eight months back. I'm looking at Balaji as they have approached to me."
With the hectic schedules of TV stars Gautami is making sure that this time around she will be working on her own timing and terms
"I'm not going to work round the clock. My timings are going to be adjusted. I am blessed because I have a very good support system in my mother-in-law and my mother. They both are there to take care of Sia. I have fantastic staff; my maid and my drivers. Ram also helps a lot but he is hardly there at home. I can not take on work to his capacity. I have been always clear about that. There is a lot of pressure and productions house really can't help it pushing actors; everybody in TV now works on day to day basis. I don't want to put anybody under pressure because of me and my timings so I'll work with those willing to adjust schedules. DJ's had offered me one show which will be aired on Zeenext, which is coming up. It was a new show they wanted a lot of time which I couldn't give so it didn't work out. That character was central character's I refused it. Both me and production house came to conclusion that it would not worked out"
"Ram is pushing me to get back to work"
"I'm getting back to work for myself and not to get responses for my acting. People are always going to talk good as well as bad things but the bottom line is I missed and love my work so I am going back. Ram is my big support system. He wants me to get back as he thinks I'm wasting my talent by sitting at home. I hope people welcome me the way they did four years ago and I hope I can deliver the same way as I did before."
"I'm waiting to see what happens in my career"
"From beginning I have never been a planner. I don't plan my future. Right now I'm just living for the moment- for my daughter and Ram. I'm waiting to see what happened in my career. I'm really looking forward to getting back to work. Definitely things will happen within three weeks. You'll have to wait and see what happens!"
Gautami and Ram Kapoor got married three years ago and have a daughter Sia who is nine months. Ram has a lead role in Kasamh Se as Jai Walia. He has received many awards for it. Now it will be Gautami's turn to return to TV and make his mark.
Gautami was last seen in the Marathi programme "Manacha Mujra" where she used to take the interview of Marathi celebrities. The show comes on E TV Marathi. Last year, Gautami played the role of Kajol's friend, Ruby, in Fanaa.
