Bhoomi hots up the silver screen
It seems the latest trend in the world of Hindi serials is to have heroines who are dark, bold and beautiful. Cases in point: Rajarshi Thakur of
Saat Phere--Saloni Ka Safar and
Reshmi Ghosh of
Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. While Thakur's role was meant to be a lead role right from day one, Ghosh's was not. She was expected to play second fiddle to fellow Bengali actress Mouni Roy (Krishna Tulsi), when circumstances and her popularity turned the tables in Reshmi's favour. Bhoomi, the character she is playing, can easily qualify as one of the hottest properties on the small screen today. The nose ring, the thick lips and the right curves have worked wonders for the Bengali actress who had not auditioned for Bhoomi initially.

Tailor made role Says Reshmi, taking a walk down memory lane, "I was selected for a different serial and had even signed a three-year contract with Balaji Telefilms. It was just coincidental that Ekta (Kapoor) was looking for characters for the
Kyun Ki leap. She felt that I was the best fit for Bhoomi's role."
"I was kind of taken aback, since I had already started preparing for the other role. But I knew Ekta must have given it a good thought before deciding on me, so I agreed," she adds. That she was the right choice was evident from the popularity of the character.
In the spotlight So, how does it feel to be the hottest property on TV? "Needless to say it feels great. To be in a serial like
Kyun Ki and in a production house like this?it feels great," gushes the actress. "I give full credit to Ekta for making this happen. I had a really nice time," says Reshmi whose body hugging white sarees and off-shoulder blouses have become a rage among her fans. However, Reshmi did not have it easy during the initial days. After winning the Miss India-Earth title, she gave Bollywood a shot. But her films -
Saazish and
Gehri Chaal - did not fare well at the box office, fueling rumours of her moving back to her hometown, Kolkata. "I went back to Kolkata not because I did not have enough work here, but because I was scheduled to shoot for two Bengali telefilms. Plus, I also walked the ramp for a few shows there," says Reshmi, vehemently denying that she ran out of options in Mumbai.
"I also did some theatre while here in Mumbai, including Munshi Premchand's Godaan," the actress adds.

Future projects Right now the actress is fully concentrating on
Kyun ki. In fact, the actress is so busy with the schedule for
Kyun Ki that there is hardly time to do other shows or films. "Currently I am focussing fully on
Kyun Ki and you all know how hectic shooting schedules are in daily soaps," the actress says. The actress has only one film Tumse Milke, scheduled for release soon.
On the personal front, the actress is all set to tie the knot soon. The man in question? Apparently he is an old-time family friend of the Ghosh's and the two are all set to tie the knot probably later this year.
