Who says passions run high only if you play cricket at the international level? Tempers ran high and TV actors Varun Badola (of Astitva fame) and Akashdeep Saigal (Ansh of Kyunki) got into a major tiff at the ITA charity cricket match played at the Andheri Sports Complex yesterday.
Varun walked out of the ground uttering a few words under his breath and refused to continue, until Ashok Pandit (who was umpiring the match) and Amit Behl intervened.
Foul play
The tiff took off from the fact that Saigal was not fielding well for his team and Badola (who was the captain) got irritated with his mediocre performance. Later, Akashdeep bowled several wide balls. Thereafter, Badola could not tolerate it anymore and lost his cool.
'These things happen'
When contacted, Ashok Pandit confirmed the incident. Badola underplayed the incident, and would only say, "Yes. I was upset. But these things happen if you are playing the game passionately. Who doesn't want to win? I may be an actor, but when I throw myself into cricket, I get really involved."
Ignored each other
An eyewitness told HiTLIST, "Akashdeep and Varun completely ignored each other. It seems that they don't share a good equation, even otherwise. Varun heaved a big sigh of relief when he won the match.
The margin was not too big and he was on tenterhooks. Thank God that Behl and Pandit succeeding in pacifying Badola," The eyewitness added that Badola and Saigal did not exchange any pleasantries after that. Saigal walked off the ground without saying goodbye to his captain.
Says Varun, "All the actors were in a hurry to go somewhere or the other. Even I wanted to rush off to Shilpa Saklani's birthday bash."
Saigal was unavailable for comment.
Varun's counterpart, Salil Ankola tried his best, but could not pull off a victory. Ankola's team lost by nine runs. Varun was awarded the Best Bowler award while Manav Gohil won the Best Batsman award. Salil Ankola won the Man Of The Match trophy.
