He hasn't been around for a while, but is all set to return with Kyunki Saas Bi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Amit Tandon still remembers his Indian Idol days. It was the time when people started recognising him.
"I was a VJ before, but Indian Idol gave me my real name and fame. People liked whatever I did on screen, and of course, they realised I could sing as well."
Good break
After watching him do his dramatic antics on the show, Ekta Kapoor handpicked him for Sony's Kaisa Ye Pyaar Hai. "That was a good break for me. I knew I wouldn't be as popular as Iqbal, as my character was the one coming in between his love for Neha. Yet, I learnt a lot about acting and facing the camera."
Playing bad boy
However, what has Amit excited these days, is his negative role as Manthan in Kyunki. "I am Karan and Tanya's son and extremely brash, rude and outspoken. In fact, I am the only black sheep, in the otherwise sugary Virani parivar."
Does he like playing the bad guy? "I adore it, because it offers me so much to do. I can always be the good boy next door but playing bad is more challenging and it excites me."
Working on solo
He loves hanging out with the actors on the set, who keep demanding that he sing songs for them. "They know I am a singer, so everyone keeps making requests. It's good fun, and it also helps my riyaaz."
Does he ever plan to release a solo album? "Yes, I am currently working on it. Even though acting is my passion, I can never ignore singing." In his spare time, the actor likes to watch movies, and pump up his muscles.
"I carry my gym equipments on the set, since I don't have much time at home. I also carry my DVD player to watch films in between shots.
Search for gharwali
Besides that, I come home to my adorable dog who welcomes me with a wet kiss." On the personal front, the actor denies having any love interest. "I don't mind dating some one, but right now, I don't see anyone suitable for me. My parents are also looking out for a girl for me."
Will he agree to an arranged marriage? "Why not, it's not like they are going to force me down upon some one. Though, I'd prefer finding someone on my own." |
