MAIN TULSI TERE AANGAN KI: Ekta Kapoor makes her small-screen debut with a cameo on the show
Ekta's Top 5 Kyunki moments

1. Mihir's death scene
There was chaos, as we got tonnes of mail and viewers responses, furious over Mihir's death.

2. The 20-year leap
After this, ratings were on an all time low of 7, but in a span of three weeks, they touched a high of 15.

PROUD COUPLE:
Tulsi and Mihir
3. The title Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
Initially, we named the show Amma, based on my beloved nanny who was almost like a family member.

She passed away two years ago. I had called her when we had a pooja, where I introduced her to Tulsi (Smriti Irani). That was an emotional, memorable moment.

4. Ansh's death
It was memorable because everyone was talking about it and there was lots of excitement.

5. Women's groups furore
A low point. The sex determination scene had the women's group up in arms. Nandini's rape scene also generated controversy.

Did you know?

The initial name for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was Amma.

Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was the name registered by actor-director Sachin Pilgaonker, who willingly gave the name to Balaji Telefilms. Kyunki was added because of the K factor.

Mihir Virani's character was named after Ekta Kapoor's school friend
Mihir Shah.

During its span of four years, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi remained at the top of the ratings pile.

The highest rating for the show — 22.4 — was when Mihir returned home alive.

The first shot was canned on April 7, 2000 — Jeetendra's birthday.

Casting for Mihir's character came down to two actors — Amar Upadhyay, who eventually played Mihir Virani, and Cezzane Khan, who lost out to him but went on to play Anurag Basu in Kasauti Zindagi Kay.

Ansh Gujral's entry (the most expensive sequence in the show) cost Rs 5 lakh.

The name Tulsi was adopted from Harkishan Mehta's work, Jad Chetan.
