Mandira was not pregnant the first time, she was faking it. But later she went to australia and pretended to be mentally unstable. Mihir sympathised with her and started taking care of her. During that period, mandira gave birth to karan.

Nandini is pooja's sister's daughter. She came to mumbai for job and started staying in shantiniketan. Karan also was there and they fell in love. They did not tell each other, Ansh came in the picture meanwhile pretending to have been reformed. He created misunderstanding between karan and nandini so that nandini could be his. Tulsi did not know about karan and nandini and thought nandini was good for ansh and got them married. Nandini refused initially but karan told her he did not love her (sacrifice because he wanted his mother tulsi to be happy). She was sad and agreed for the marriage.
