The Palace has become quiet, either birds chirping are heard or the footsteps can be heard. Royal People talks in a polite manner and low tone so nothing can be heard from far away. The road to her Room from the dining hall seemed as the biggest journey of her life nowadays. She reached the room and saw Babu kaka cleaning the shelves. He bowed down to show respect to her , she gave a polite smile to him. Then Babu kaka moved towards the gramophone to clean it she stopped him and asked to leave it untouched in it's place.
It was night. Everyone slept till then except one. Amroo wasn't able to sleep so started walking two and fro in the room. Suddenly her eyes went on the Gramophone she went near it, closed her eyes & brushed her fingers over it with gentle smile. "Biwi Sahab Koi accha sa gaana kyun nahi Bajati Aap" whispered a voice into her ears. She smiled and played it in lowering the tunes. "Itna Dheere bajaengi to Sunayi kaise dega Amrit!?". Shhhhh!! Agar awaaz badhaenge toh sabko pata chal jaega ki hum jaag rahe hai Kunwar Sahab". She giggled.
"Ajeeb Dastaan hai Yeh...kaha shuru kaha khattam...Ye Manzile hai kaunsi".
Amrit aankhe kholiye, kholiye na ek baar. He touched her shoulder and out of fear she opened her eyes. She saw him moved back a bit. You promised that you won't touch me without mu permission then why did you this. "Par Amrit aapke aakhon se aasu beh rahe the toh."
"Toh kya hum ro bhi nahi sakte. Humse rone ka haq bhi ab cheena jaega!? Aap chale jaiye aap nhi samjhenge ki hum kaisa mehsus kar rahe." She walked towards the door indicating him to go out. While he was walking away she started saying "Ye Kamra kaat ta hai Hume. Ye Khamoshi Chubhti hai Hume. Ye Ankhein hume Gumrah karta Hai. Vo Hume dikhayi dete hai aur Randheer. Aur jab aankhein band kar leti hu to Veer kaano mein kuch kehne lagte hai."
"Amriiittt" he was going to say something but she closed the door on his face and went towards the cupboard. She rubbed her fingers against the cupboard & smiled remembering how Veer himself made this for her. She opened it and saw her dusty & blood stained saree which she wore that day. She picked it up , wrapped it around herself and glanced at herself in mirror.
"Hayeee Itni Khubsurat Lag rahi hai ki Nargis ko Jalan ho jaye Aapse" keeping his hand on her shoulder he winked in the mirror seeing them. She smiled and said the Party for your brother's return is going to start let's go fast otherwise RM will be upset. They started walking out but she held Veer's arm "Rukiye aapka collar piche se baitha nahi hai. Hum thik krdete hai." He was looking at her passionately. "Veer aapko darr nahi lag raha agar RM ne aapki baat nhi maani toh?". "Waise vo humari koi baat maanti toh nhi hai aur agar nahi maana humari baat toh humse zyaada khushnaseeb koi iss duniya mein nahi ho sakta. Veer ki Amrit humesha ke liye reh jaengi aap." She makes a poker face. "Dariye mat Maa Prem se bahut pyaar krti hai maan jaegi. Ab aap ek baar muskura ke iss kamre ko alvida kar dijiye jaha aap 3 mahine se becahri pise jaa rahi thi." She smiled and said "Aisa nahi iss kamre ne hume boht yaadien di hai jise hum kabhi nhi bhulne wale. Aur iss kamre mein aate jate rahenge hum aap konsa kahi bhag rahe hai jo hum aapse milne nhi aaenge Veer Sahab." He smiled "Biwi Sahab aap na."
She looked back and remebered how he used to dance all around the room and threw tantrums which kept her busy whole day. Dance. She started remembering about their last dance in the function "Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri,Kunwariyon ka dil machle Jind meri." Veer used to look happiest when he used to dance. She said to herself. Then she remebered that explosion which brought havoc in her life.
Her foot was trapped against a heavy weapon box in the armory with a deep cut over her waist due to which she was unable to move. Veer saw the fire following the route towards the armory so he rushed towards it to save her. He entered the room and started pushing the boxes to release her foot. "Veer Aap yaaha kyu aaye. Aapki Jaan chali jaegi. Jaiye yaha se."
"Apni jaan bachane hi aaye yaha. Aapko kuch ho gya toh aise hi hum mar jaenge." She looked at him tenderly. He then released her leg & in the process her Payal got broke down & got scattered in room. She was shocked but he grinned while scooping her up in his arms , "Aaj humse Azaad ho rahi hai aap har maino mein."
They walked out of the room and then suddenly Amroo said Mera Mangalsutra wahi gir gya. Veer put her down and rushed towards the room to bring it back. "Nahiiii. Mat Jaiye please rukiye Veer."
He walked out of room & showed her the Mangalsutra from distance then suddenly the blast happened pushing her down on the ground. But with some efforts she got up started searching for him with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Veerrrrr....Veeeerrr...kaha hai Aap!?"
"Biiiiiwi.." She looked back. There he was near the tree fully injured , blood stained and burnt. He was gasping with his eyes half shut. She ran towards him and brushed her fingers over his half burnt face "Veerrrrr....aap thik hainaa! Rukiye hum madad ke liye bulate hai kisiko. Hum aapko kuch nahi hone denge." He smiled and stopped her from screaming her lungs out for asking for help. "Ucchi awaazein hume pasand nahi. Dheere. Ab humara waqt aa gya hai. Ab jaane bhi de dijiye Amrit." "Veer ye kaise bekar baat kar rahe hai aap" holding his face.
"Zara Madad kriye humari baithne mein. Amrit ab humari baat suniye. Hume kuch kehna tha." She sushed him and started crying asking for help. "Shhhh...Ab humara waqt aa gya hai Amrit,Jaane dijiye."
"Aap jhooth bolte hai." He narrowed his eyes. "Aapne kaha tha ki hum aapko agar kabhi chodhke jaenge toh aap khud nhi jaante aap kya kar baithenge toh aaj aap jaane ki baat kyu kar rahe." he smiled and said " Isiliye toh jaa rahe. Prem se boht pyaar krte hai hum par itne bhi shayad dildar nahi hai ki aapko kisi aur ka hota dekh seh paenge. Dekhiye ab toh bhagwaan bhi hume bula rahe." Veeer ....!
"Hum Aapko ek mauka dene wale the naa toh kya zaroorat thi aapko mera haath apne bhai ke haath mein dene ki."
"Amrit aap humari zindagi mein sach mein Amrit banke aayi. Aapne hume accha insaan wapas banaya hai. Aapne hume sawara hai. Par kya hai naa Amrit sirf acchon ko milta hai Jaise Amrit Manthan ke waqt Devtaon ko mila. Aur hum toh hai haiwan humare haatho sirf cheenawa huya Amrit aa sakta par vo mil nahi sakta. Aur kya haina ab humare papon ka ghada phutt chuka hai isliye humara aapke saath ka safar yahi khattam hoke chutt jaega."
"Kunwar Veer Pratap Singh kabse harne lage" she said this while looking at his eyes and sobbing. "Kunwar Veer Pratap Singh toh pehle hi apna sab kuch aap par lutake haar chuke hai." Amrit's eyes widened and she hugged him tightly and kept sayingg Veer please don't go. We will be okay. We will make it up. And Suddenly he started singing
" Lag jaa gale ke fir ye haseen raat ho naa hoo...ki shayad fir iss janam mein mulakaat ho naa ho". It felt like someone stabbed her heart and she tightened her grip over him & started crying over him. He asked her continue the song. "hum Ko Mili Hai Aaj ye Ghadiya Naseeb Se, je Bhar Ke Dekh Leejiye hamako Kareeb Se"
He was humming the song's tune and suddenly she said "Aapne kaha tha dekhte hi goli mardenge toh aaj apni Jaan kyun Gavare humare liye." With lot of difficulty he said "Aapko bhi mana kiya tha humare zindagi mein jhakne ke liye toh aap humari zindagi kyun ban gyi." She giggled tightening his grip over him while the tears kept rolling down her eyes. "Aankhon se phir ye pyaar ki barsaat ho naa ho" he was singing in low voice. "Aapne bhi hume uss Amrit se milaya jisme boht taqat hai. Jo kissi se bhi ladd sakti hai aur....aap sun rahe hainaa" hmmmmm he said. "Kabhi karte the Zindagi ki tamana,Toh kabhi maut ka karte the intezaar. Vo humare paas hoke bhi kyun door hai pata nahi, jinhe hum aapne zindagi se bhi zyaada chahte the."
Listening this she started bawling. "Veer hum nahi reh paenge. Veer sun rahe naa aap." Hid silence hit her. She couldn't sense his breath & heartbeat anymore as his head was resting on her shoulder. She closed her eyes and pressed her lips looking in opposite direction. Seeing the sun setting she remembered all the moments spent with him & slowly her eyes closed.
She looked at his potrait which was hanging over the wall and hummed "Lag ja gale ...hmmm...mmhmmm....ohhhhh" tune while holding the Sea blue saree and closed her eyes.
