Navneet Nishan is back on television. And back with a bang on her home territory where she began her career 13 years ago with Tara. Since then a lot has changed. Changed for the better with its pros and cons. "Everything about television is grand," says the actress who had cropped her hair short for Tara that came to be known as 'the Tara haircut' in the 90s. Since then the haircut has remained her trademark. But television has got a different look.

"It's more like cinema. The presentation is grand. As for content that's questionable. Good or bad. That depends on the individual point of view," says Navneet who feels belonged to Balaji Telefilms. Of course she still feels attached to Raman Kumar's Tracinema that made Tara.

But times have changed. The production houses that buzzed with furious activities in the 90s are silent today. Most of the action has shifted to Balaji and so have loyalties. "Ekta is a powerful producer. She can have her way with channels. She doesn't have to worry about finance," says Navneet who is doing two Balaji dailies, Kavyanjali and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka. In the last couple of years she did a couple of television shows and episodic work.

"But all that went unnoticed. For one and half years I did Sabse Bada Rupaiya on SAB but nobody talked about it," regrets the actress who sports a mean look for her role in Kavyanjali that has her playing Nirmala Devi, an outright negative character, who seeks revenge against the Nanda family for an old grudge.

"Nirmala is a smart business- woman out to ruin the Nanda household," she adds. Navneet is not new to playing mean characters. She had played one in Andaaz. "That was highly negative but very glamorous too," she remembers with a wide smile. She feels she has not got her due as an actor. She has had her share of ups and downs too.

She got married and settled down in America after her live-in relationship of a few years failed. But her marriage too failed. "I had a very difficult mother-in-law," she reveals. "But it all ended amicably. Nobody felt hurt. I guess what happens, happens for the best. I am happy to be where I belong. No more marriage for me. One is enough. Now I am focused on work." In her spare time, she likes designing clothes and when there was a lull in her career she designed costumes for the Punjabi film Waaris.
