You know the most fulfilling thing is, for me as a viewer is characterization. But not just in writing, it's lot more than that. Creating a character means more than just getting it right on paper, its good scene direction, its good dialogue, good performance, good aesthetics.
It's just... so many things. and when everything is in tune... when everything is synced... its so, so immensely satisfying and fulfilling to watch, i cannot even explain it. i get so attached to well developed characters like karan Luthra. and this man is the epitome of this fact. he's another level. just.another level.
He's the perfect shade of grey.. but, i just.. i love the way he express this in the nuances of his scenes. He's a man that shies away from being thought of as "good'- he doesn't want to be thought highly of at all. we've seen this in multiple scenes, the way he stops people from praising him or the way he boasts about himself being a "bad boy" or a rebel. because he doesn't want all the emotions attached to being loved.Like truly loved.
But at the same time.. he is so aware of who he is. he's so mindful of his values. He's so considerate of his morals. He knows what he stands for. regardless of the image he tries to put up, he never lets go of who he is inside. He knows what he wants to be, but he also knows who he should be... because who he should be.. is who he actually is. that karan Luthra.
That one that he should be.. that's the karan Luthra he is trying to protect. and he knows it.. he's the first Indian character that i have seen that has actually acknowledged his conscience. Not just in some mirror talk scene. like, he has actually.. in real time, conversationally signified the importance of his inner self and all the while still maintained his bad boy stance.
The dichotomy of karan Luthra is so powerfully shown, it's amazing. there is no part of him we can't feel..because there is no part of him that he's actually hiding. he's complex...without actually being complicated at all. It s just brilliant so brilliant.
Allow me to put this case in point. the current track we have karan Luthra the so called bad boy doing the right thing. How? because he knows what he needs to. not for anyone else...but for himself. For who he is. He can't lose that karan Luthra that he knows,deep down. He truly is. this is a man with morals and values that he is not afraid to fight for. there is a man who acknowledges for both the man he is and the man he wants to be for the rest of the world.
There's this subtle sensitivity in him... for that karan he's trying to protect, And we can see it in the things he says... in the things he does... in the ways his eyes reflect his emotions... in the way he panics when the two of him try to collide. You know what mean? like...for example...every time marriage comes up, he becomes anxious.
Because he knows... what he truly wants for marriage... that would require letting himself go...it would mean leaving that karan unprotected..it would mean lifting his shield, and he can't do that. but... he also can't marry someone he doesn't love, because his conscience would never allow that. He is suddenly trapped between the both of him, and he can't handle it. he becomes restless. he stands exposed. and that's something he's not ready for...not yet...at least.
He finds comfort in having this control of his internal and external struggle. he'll fight for one. While never letting go of the other. And he will do these for as long as he can.
karan Luthra, fam.
He's just as poignant in action, as he is in thought, and it's beautiful. so beautiful.
