If the grapevine is to be believed, Sumit (Hussain) is set for a phased exit from Kumkum, the serial that made him a star. After the generation leap, Kumkum was hyped as a mature love story, but somehow the show did not go as planned. Sumit, on screen, is currently suffering from a terminal illness. Sources say that the character's death will be shown gradually. Whether this is due to some problem with Hussain or not is difficult to say and the actor refuses to take calls. As if this was not enough, Hussain's onscreen daughter Aashka (Chahat Khanna) is also leaving Kumkum since she is getting married next month. The production house, it seems, has already launched a massive hunt for a replacement. Remember Vinod Singh? The first Dr Ayushmaan, who was forced to leave the serial due to problems with the production house, is upset with the way TV serials are progressing. He has decided to concentrate on ad films while waiting for the right film offers. He was busy shooting for an MRF tyre commercial when this columnist caught him on his cell phone. While Vinod has become more famous for his Close Up ad than Ayushmaan, how far that will help his big screen adventure is anybody's guess. |
