OK, I have a culture/fashion question. Sorry, I don't know a lot about Punjabi culture. I'm from the south.😳

I notice ro-dadi and Janki ma wearing their dupatta over their head. But Sarla ma doesn't. Dadi, ID, and tayiji don't over their head too. How come?

Is it about age? Or status? Or personal choice? Just curious.šŸ˜› Can someone share?

It's perhaps that Janki Maa and Ro Daadi are more old fashioned (that's not the right word.. let me say more traditional). Covering one's head is a sign of showing respect to God and others in Punjabi..especially Sikh culture.
You may have noticed.. Daadi too wears it so when she is praying to Waheguru sometimes.

Thanks, Tia. Yes, I noticed dadi covered her head when she prays. I noticed Pragya did too during the pooja. Are the Mehras Hindus or Sikhs? Because both in Mehra and Arora homes, I see Guru Nanak pictures. Which culture is shown in this show?

They can be both... The thing is historically first son of a lot of Hindu families was given away to an army that was fighting Muslims who were forcing certain stuff on people. They eventually turned into Sikhs. So that way a lot of families have both Hindu and Sikh religions plus cultures mixed. Mehras seem more Sikh given Daadi is always reading Granth Sahib. But then some Sikhs also pray to Hindu Gods. So it's kind of mixed.

However, these soaps twist stuff according to what is good for TRPs. I feel they show Shivji, temple, Goddesses etc. more than they should show to capture a bigger set of audience. Sometimes festivals are shown that neither Punjabi Hindus nor Sikhs really celebrate..

I think they show different Gods and Goddesses to make it suitable for regional translations. I know KKB is translated into Tamil and Telugu versions. In Tamil its called Iru Malargal (2 Flowers) because kumkum concept is not too popular there. Maybe that's why they have variety of religious appeals in the show to make it work for different parts of India and abroad.

Actually,it is quite popular in Tamil, tamilnadu.
My mom, aunts etc are big fans of kkb ,Tamil n Hindi versions.
The gods part doesn't really matter.
My sis watches this show on n off for the glamourous dressing ,jewellery shown in the parties.
I joined their list finally.
I watch the Hindi version.
At a restaurant ,where my family is quite a regular, the combination of gods are present on the walls.
Maybe for the same reason!!!

GBSC, I know the Tamil version is popular!😊 I meant they changed the title for Tamil version because kumkum bhagya as a concept is not that popular in Chennai/TN compared to north. The show is called Kumkum Bhagya in Telugu version. They changed the name only for the Tamil version.

I think they intentionally include different religions/Gods to suit local versions. I remember reading that serials are written and directed to suit diverse viewers! I like it because it's inclusive!!
