GUYSSS a scholar (desi woman anthropologist) has written a book (Prime Time Soap Operas on Indian Televsion by Shoma Munshi) analysing desi soaps!! it's a few years old so it features soaps that were popular a while ago but eheeh it looks like she covers a lot of what we keep talking about. haven't looked too deeply at it yet but will come back with a book report at some time maybe ;)
