Aabeer Gulaal reviews and box office
I am an admirer of Jane Austen's works and was rather puzzled when Ekta announced that this serial is a loose adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility", for two reasons. To me, Jane Austen's novels seem relevant when seen in context of the period thay were placed in and attempts to "modernize" her works, like they did for "Pride and Prejudice" , failed to capture the essence and feel of the plot. S&S has even more muted characters and I was both curious and fearful how Ekta would tweak it, knowing her penchant for DRAMA.
I see nothing of the novel in this serial. Thats ok. But what puzzles me is that there seems to be no context or backdrop for any of the characters to behave the way they do. The leads or the mother or the siblings or the kind hearted neighbour or any of them. Why are they behaving the way they are and doing things that they are is actually not comprehensible to me. Which is a big let down. And therefore it is getting difficult to sustain the story, if any.I wonder how the story would progress , once the leads eventually fall for each other.
