Will Pragya ever get her spine back? (read first post for elaboration)

Having never watched an Indian soap before, I have no idea what to expect so I'm curious about other people's knowledge and experience on this. I'm trying to manage my expectations based on what others say. 😆

It appears our dear Pragya from the early episodes is gone and in her place is a woman who just cries, shows gratitude to her (sometimes abusive) husband, and alternates between sad eyes and gooey love eyes.

So the question remains - will we ever get the original Pragya back? The one who would have taught her mom to be strong instead of putting up with so much nonsense, the one who would have defended her sister against attacks that she seduced an engaged man, the one who would have spoke up and cleared misunderstandings instead of letting others do it. Is she going to come back eventually? Or is this how heroines are written?

yes, this is how heroines are written

my condolences on this being your first show. it would have been better if you were desensitized by watching some other shows. then you would be less upset by the always-upsetting doormattification of heroines, and more able to appreciate the nuances that still make pragya/this show a cut above the rest.

of course it may only be a matter of time before this show ceases being a cut above anything. beginnings are often strong, but as the narrative stretches over time, all responsible storytelling and characterization simply get tossed out the window.

Can you tell me what those nuances are, Mina? I can sense the humor on this show is distinct from other shows. It's what attracted me in the first place.

What else distinguishes it from other soaps and Pragya from other heroines?

I want her back , but i don't think they are gonna give her back , i have hopes during the pregnancy track that even if she helps him she sunaos him and refuses to go back hence i wan't the truth to be out to everyone !

Abhi is not as flawed as P's character

Abhi 's only thing is no brains but pragya?

How far is her Maa gonna be an excuse !

i think there may be an essay to be written on this, but i'm not in the right headspace for it. mostly my thoughts are inarticulate and my attachment to this show is instinctive. i have decided in my mind that it is good; if i must present evidence as to why...it'll always be retroactive justification 😆

the main thing is still that there are semi-coherent misunderstandings driving the conflict, it's not conflict for conflict's sake. pragya's making sacrifices and keeping silent and putting up with nonsense, but not simply because she is an ideal woman - although she is, otherwise she wouldn't be a heroine - but also because she is trying to protect her family. this is more reason than some heroines have - they put up with abuse just from innate goodness, and sometimes also from not having other options. prags has other options; we can judge and condemn her for not seeing or not choosing them, that's up to a viewer's personal standards. but i enjoy that pragya is prima facie different from other heroines because she doesn't do things just because.

don't know if that made sense lk. i will see if i can write this essay while on a long train trip this weekend 😛

No I highly doubt she will ever do anything to punish those that deserve to be ever again. With her character she will lie take the blame, hurt her sister, Purab, undermine street vendor and Suresh as liars, all so that her matrimonial home maintains honour, despite knowing the same matrimonial home her sister-in-law Aaliya, husband Abhi, brother in law Aakash are doing everything to dishonour the home but she as the bahu will make them look like angels, everyone will be bad and evil except the ones that really are bad and evil, that's Pragya's prerogative on getting married. She will never stand for the truth.

That makes perfect sense, Mina. And yes, if you ever wish to write an essay, I would love to read it.

Given what you're saying, you are right then - I probably would be enjoying this show more had it not been my first one. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to watch a show where a heroine has basically non-existent motivation for her actions. At least here, there's a pretense of a sick (annoying) mother. Flimsy though it may be, if one accepts its existence, one can potentially still find a way to relate to the main character. I'm having a hard time relating to Pragya lately, but it is unfair for me to assume others are as well.
