Look at Mahabarath in Star Plus...gosh, everyone at my place watches it and re-watches it to get clarity in the dialogue. The series was a fiction too (well, was the epic, actual??) but it had limited time line, wonderful enacted by the cast and crew. I was told that LIFE OK channel gives projects based on number of episodes...no idea what's the results...

A similar mentality has taken hold in Western TV culture as well. Most shows used to be 22 episodes per season but now a lot of the better ones are only 13 episodes per season. Many show runners dictate that their show will also end in a set number of seasons now. It has made a lot of difference in terms of quality and avoiding viewer fatigue. Research has suggested viewers like to know when the end will be in sight.

How long do Indian soap operas usually last, anyway?
