Chapter 3:
Abhi was standing in Purab's office waiting for Bulbul to come. It was time for him to try and gain her trust back, and after knowing her for the past year he knew exactly what to do.
"Yaar, main tujhe keh raha hoon, iss baar Bulbul itne asani se man ne nahi wali." Purab warned him.
Abhi smiled at him, "But this time, I'm fighting for the people I love and I'm trying to prove my worth to them. I know I'll win her trust back this time because I'm genuinely trying. And don't worry Purab, once I do I promise I'll get the both of you married." Purab just smiled at his friend, having forgiven him a long time ago. Before anything else they were brothers who had gone through a tough past together and he knew that Abhi was trying.
"What is he doing here?" Abhi and Purab turned to see Bulbul glaring at them.
"Both of them have the same glare." Abhi said under his breath.
"What!" Bulbul asked.
"Bulbul ek baar usse baat karlo." Purab tried explaining to her.
"No, you may be able to forgive him for what he did, but I will never." Bulbul said turning around, "I'm going to my desk to do work you both can do whatever you want, just leave me alone."
Abhi sighed but then smiled, he took the guitar from Purab's cabin and went outside. "Purab, you know Bulbul was my partner in crime for the past year. We both saved each other from Daadi's and Pragya's daants." Abhi said as he saw Bulbul try and ignore them.
"Aacha Bhai, what about when ya'll got caught in your mischief's." Purab asked playing along.
"Bulbul would just smile widely, but I would protect her. She was like my chotu sa baacha I couldn't let her get yelled at." Abhi said smiling at memories they shared.
"If you guys are done can I get back to work?" Bulbul said sarcastically.
"Yaar Purab you know that I'm not good with saying words, so how about I show her how sorry I am." Abhi said ignoring Bulbul.
Purab laughed and said, "Of course."
Abhi started strumming his guitar and sang,
Teri muskurahatein hain taaqat meri
Mujhko inhi se ummeed mili
Chaahe kare koi sitam ye jahaan
Inme hi hai sadaa hifaazat meri
Zindagani badi khoobsurat hui
Jannat ab aur kya hogi kahin
Jo tu mera Humdard hai
Jo tu mera Humdard hai
Suhaana har dard hai
Jo tu mera Humdard hai
"Abhi jiju, you sang a song just for me?" bulbul asked smiling. "The old Bulbul would have forgiven you in a second, but do you really think I'm that materialistic that if 'rockstar' Abhi sings me a song I'll forget everything he did to my Di. If you wanna prove something show me that you actually love my Di, show me that you're worthy of Pragya Di. Show me that there's more than an egoistic money making rockstar in you." Bulbul said grabbing her papers and leaving the office.
"Yaar Abhi bura maat man, she just needs time." Purab tried to make his friend feel better.
"No she's right, and like always she's given me a mind blowing idea." Abhi said smiling.
Abhi wiped the sweat off his forehead as he pulled back the last part of his tent. Taking his hammer he nailed down the final piece, when Bulbul came back from work.
Bulbul stopped and stared at what was in front of her. She saw her Jiju, a tent and a guitar. "What?" She asked confused.
"You were right, I have to show everyone that I'm not really materialistic. And I have to show your Di that I love her. I'm willing to stay in the tent until all of you forgive me, until she forgives me. I don't need anything but her." Abhi said.
Bulbul stared before a smile crept over her face, "Jiju! Haye itna romantic thought!" She laughed. "Jiju, done all forgiven. What you just did, you have no idea how much that will mean to my Di. The fact that you're willing to leave you life of comfort to live outside in a tent for her, that's more than enough for me." Bulbul smiled.
Abhi laughed and said, "I'm sorry Bulbul, I was wrong and I will fix it."
"Haan aur ab pakka jeet aapki hogi, main hoon na." Bulbul smiled and ran inside yelling Di.
Abhi shook his head at his filmy sister in law and went back to work. Looking up he saw Pragya standing at the door startled by her sister's screeches, he saw her look at him in shock. He just smiled and blew her a kiss turning back to finish his tent.
"DI! DI! DI!" Pragya heard Bulbul yell from outside.
"Kya hain Bulbul." Pragya asked.
"Di tune dekha, Jiju tere liye kya kar raha hain." Bulbul said excitedly.
"I know, Bulbul Di kitni lucky hai na, Jiju yeh sab kar rahe hain usse patane ki liye." Purvi said smiling widely along with Bulbul.
"What, kal thak you both hated him what changed?" Pragya asked curiously.
"Di! He showed me that he's willing to do anything for you, Di just look." Bulbul said moving aside so Pragya could see Abhi.
Pragya looked at Abhi and had to do a double take, the Abhi who always bragged about his money to her was standing without his shirt on making a tent outside her house.
"Woh Abhi hai," Pragya questioned.
"Of course Di, Jiju kitna romantic hain!" Bulbul said smiling widely.
"So it only took this much to win you over." Pragya couldn't help but laugh at her filmy sister.
"Of course not Di, but he's doing something hatke something he would never do for anyone else for you. Woh saach main tujhse pyar karta hain." She said.
Pragya's smile fell, "No Bulbul," She looked back at Abhi who blew a kiss to her before turning back to his tent. "I just want this to be over." Pragya said before going in.
"Arey par Di!" Bulbul said going after her.
Abhi turned when he saw them go in, he caught a glimpse of Pragya's saddened face.
"I'm sorry," He said to no one in particular. "I know no matter how many times I say it, it won't change what I did. But God just give me one more chance, just give me a chance to live the rest of my life in making sure she is happy."
When Abhi finally finished his work it was nighttime, Maa and Daadi were coming home.
"Arey betaji what are you doing?" Maa asked shocked to see the front of her house.
"Aapki beti ko patane ki koshish." Abhi said jokingly.
They both smiled at him. "Maa just give me this one chance to prove myself to you, please." Abhi asked. She smiled and nodded at him going into the house.
Once she got in Abhi heard he say, "Bulbul, chal remember we have to go get that dress for you for the office."
He heard Bulbul ask in a confused voice, "What dress Maa?"
"Arey Bulbul, remember that dress." He heard Purvi say in an urgent tone.
"Oh! Yeah, chalo. Di we'll just be back okay I'll even get Maa and Daadi new sarees till then you stay here and relax okay?" Bulbul said. Abhi saw Bulbul pull Purvi outside, the four ladies of the house looked towards Abhi and smiled.
"Arey par how will Pragya stay all by herself this late at night?" Daadi said as Abhi looked at them confused.
"Abhi beta, can you stay with her until we get back." Maa asked him as Purvi and Bulbul gave him a thumbs up sign.
"Of course." Abhi smiled.
"Jiju, all the best." Bulbul whispered as they all left giggling.
Abhi started walking towards the house seeing Pragya standing inside glancing up at him once in anger before turning her view away. He smiled and went in and said, "Hi."
Pragya looked up at him with the same anger filled eyes he was used to seeing when they fought.
"Dekho sirf Maa ki kehne pe aap yahan hain, or I wouldn't want to stand next to you." Pragya said still giving him an angry glare.
"But I want to stand next to you." Abhi said without thinking.
"Kya," Pragya gave him a look.
"I love you." Abhi said again just happy to be standing next to her after wanting to see her since yesterday.
"Really," Pragya gave a sarcastic laugh, "Aur mujhe laga ke aap kabhi ek chasmish se pyar nahi kar sakte."
Abhi took a deep breath in knowing he deserved that, he had told her that on many occasions.
"Pragya, I know you won't believe me but all I'm asking for is a chance," Abhi took her hands in his, "a chance to show you that I'm not that guy that I am the one for you." Abhi said looking straight into Pragya's eyes.
Pragya snatched her hands away and said, "I want to show you something. When I came home yesterday do you want to know what my family was watching." Pragya went towards the TV and pressed play on the remote.
Abhi turned to see his and Pragya's performance during their reception. He flinched as he saw himself drop Pragya purposely during their performance.
"They all assumed that you were dancing with me and teaching me because of your love. But I was the one who had to tell them the truth behind your words." Pragya glared at Abhi.
"Go home Abhi, you just feel bad for making a mistake I just want this to be over. Just go home sign the papers and let me go back to my simple life." Pragya told him turning away from him.
Abhi grabbed Pragya's arm and turned her towards him again. Pragya turned her face away. "Dekho meri taraf." Abhi said but Pragya stubbornly refused to lift her head. Abhi took her face in his hands and lifted her face up until she had to look at him.
"I made a mistake. I was foolish but that mistake gave me the most important thing in my life you. Every time we fought I felt it, every time you would brush your hair I felt it, every time you would forcefully take care of me I felt it. I just didn't realize what I was feeling until you left." Abhi said looking right into Pragya's eyes.
"Ab kya karu tumhare chashme pe dil aagaya."
"Abhi," Pragya pushed his arms away again. "We're too different. Our bhagya may have pushed us together but we can never be perfect for each other." Pragya said.
"Aacha, toh phir meri aankhon mein dekhke kehdo that you don't love me." Abhi challenged her.
"I don't" Pragya said looking everywhere else but at him.
"You do," Abhi said as stubbornly as Pragya.
Pragya glared up at him but before she could say anything Abhi said, "Tumhari inhe gusse wale aankhon se pyar hua hain."
Pragya pushed him away and said, "But that feeling will never be mutual. Ek baar aap hi na kaha tha na ki main kisi se pyar nahi karsakti, ab woh saach hain." She said with her anger filled eyes.
"Di tu itna kya gussa kar rahi hain, Jiju manane ki koshish kar raha hai na." Bulbul said abruptly coming in.
Pragya turned towards her sister and asked, "Tu yahan kya kar rahi hain tujhe toh apni dress leni thi na?"
"Woh, Di, hum, woh." Bulbul was trying to find an excuse for her spying on her di and jiju.
"Tell them all to come in I know they are all there."Pragya said. All of them came in with sheepish looks on their face.
Abhi stood there with his arms crossed smiling at Pragya questioning them.
"Woah, okay okay!" Abhi finally said once all the women started yelling at each other. "
"Di jiju tere liye itna toh kar rahe hain aur tu uspe sirf gussa." Bulbul said again, "Not fair Di"
"Bulbul tu chup kar tujhe kuch pata nahi." Pragya said glaring at Abhi who seemed to be enjoying this.
"Par Di," Bulbul started to say.
"Bulbul it's okay. Until Pragya doesn't agree to come back with me I'm not leaving." Abhi said. He walked towards Pragya who was looking at him trying to anticipate what he was going to do.
Abhi leaned down and kissed her cheek and said, "As for now I'l be out there if you need me."
Pragya who had turned red yelled "I won't" after him as her family giggled at her.
Two hours went by and Pragya was tired of answering her family's questions. Every two seconds there was a comment about Abhi. She was trying to forget him but they kept reminding her that he was there, outside for her. No matter what her emotions were telling her, she had learned that being practical was the only way to get through life and this time she was only going to think practically.
"Di, dinner's ready come!" Pragya heard Bulbul yell from the living room. She took a deep breath in putting away all her problems and went to the dinner table and saw them all sitting there eating.
Bulbul had put out a plate for her but Pragya couldn't eat. She didn't know if Abhi had eaten or not, whether he had eaten all day. Since the afternoon he had been building that tent.
Bulbul noticed her Di not eating and looked at her mom smiling. With a wink her mom said, "Arey Abhi didn't eat anything, Pragya take a plate and both of you eat together."
Pragya looked up in protest and Bulbul silently applauded her mother's thinking.
"Maa," Pragya was about to complain.
"I don't want to hear anything go now." Maa said stubbornly.
"Haan Di," Bulbul said preparing a plate for both of them. "Jiju ke saath romantic dinner date." Bulbul and Purvi started giggling.
Pragya sulked but got up with the plate.
"Maa good planning." Bulbul said as Pragya left the house.
