Because think about it,
He's never wanted Pragya out of his life (throwing divorce papers in the fire, stopping her from leaving the house, etc). This was just another one of his excuses to use when Tanu asked him.

Completely unrelated to the above post but...krishu remember talking about abhi's shoes earlier...I went back through previous episodes and he does have dress shoes...both during their reception and Aaliyah's engagement, abhi is wearing proper dress shoes... Not only that the trousers actually fit really well! The cut is great and the length!
