'Life is not just about having sex!'
Friday, March 10, 2006 11:29:42 IST
It would be a romantic candlelit dinner on a beach with the person I love from the deepest corner of my heart
</>

On your sex appeal
My simplicity. It comes from the fact that I come from a small town, Jabalpur. Girls also tell me that it's my eyes. They tell me that I have honest and sparkling eyes. My thoughts and feelings show in my eyes. I also think it's my dancing abilities. I am a trained dancer and at times even dance to girls' tunes. At times I even make them dance to my tune (laughs).

How girls react to you
I'm very bad at 'pataoing' girls. They run away from me. This explains my single status today. But I'm looking for a girlfriend. However, I have a lot of female friends. They find me very sweet and honest. I hate liars. I think girls like this trait in guys. They also like my fun loving nature and my sense of humour. I can bring a smile to people's faces even when they're in the worst of moods.

Your first date
This happened when I was in the 8th std. I really liked her. One day I had 5 rupees with me and asked her out for ice cream to one of those roadside ice-cream vendors. But it was great fun. I was very excited. I felt I'd achieved something great. We became good friends after that and would constantly dedicate songs to each other over the phone. She shifted residence soon and that was the end of our romance.

Your first crush
I saw her at the Mumbai airport. She was my dad's friend's daughter. She was from California but was so Indianized. She was dressed in a simple white Salwar Khameez that had me instantly attracted to her. I was about 12 then and she was a year older. All I remember is running after her (laughs).

Your most cherished compliment
I really like it when people tell me that I'm very down to earth.

Your wildest compliment
A girl in the next class once told me that she gets turned on every time she sees me. We were in std. Xl then. I just ignored her. Unfortunately none of my female costars have told me that (laughs).

Love & romance...
Love is the most beautiful thing to happen to anyone. I was in love but we broke up three years back. Her parents didn't want her to be involved with a guy from the glamour world. That's the price I've had to pay to become an actor. Love is when you notice the smile on a girl's lips rather than her lips or look at that expression in her eyes rather than her body. Romance has to be with the person I love.

Lust...
Lust is something very stupid. A person with only lust is someone whose soul is dead. Life is not just about having sex and lusty thoughts! There's so much more in life that one can enjoy and be happy. I don't think there's anything wrong with me. I'm completely fit that way (laughs). I believe in lusting and loving the same person. I love this aspect about me.

On a nudist beach
I've never been on one. I'd love to go there and enjoy every moment. Every new place is an experience by itself (laughs).

What if a girl made a pass at you?
If she sounds desperate then I'd bluntly say no. I don't believe in love and lust at first sight. Otherwise I'd make friends with her and get to know her better.

Would you ask a girl out if you liked her but didn't know her well?
I'd tell her that I'd love to spend time with her and get to know her better. I'd ask her out for coffee.

What if you fell short of money on a date?
I'd ask her to kindly pay as I don't intend washing the dishes (laughs).

Your dream date
It would be a romantic candlelit dinner on a beach with the person I love from the deepest corner of my heart.

Would you dress to impress a girl?
I would. If she likes Indian outfits then I'd wear a kurta pajama otherwise I'd wear cargos and a T-shirt.

Flirtations...
I'm very bad at it but trying to better it. I enjoy flirting in a healthy way.

Marriage...
I see myself getting married five years later. I don't know with whom. I'd love to have
an arranged marriage. I think my parents know what's best for me.

What if your father caught you with your pants down?
He wouldn't! I'm not like that.

Your wildest bedroom fantasy
(Laughs) I don't have any. Actually I'm very embarrassed to talk about it.

Are women a necessary evil?
They are necessary for marriage but I don't think the person's gender makes them evil. Even men are evil.

TELE EXPRESS
PROFILE: Shaleen Bhanot
Nitin Joshi
He seems to be the new kid on the block. Shaleen Bhanot. You see him, currently, as the rich, spoilt brat Karan in Zee TV's Saat Phere - Saloni Ka Safar and also in Hungama TV's Sanya where he plays the boy next door, Mihir. ''I just started off a while ago and the going is good. Both my characters are very interesting and, luckily for me, they are both very different from each other. If Karan is the hardcore, negative, rich cool dude who's landed in jail, then Mihir in Sanya is the very sweet, good-hearted, nice boy,'' smiles Shaleen.

Acting is a new twist in Shaleen's life. He used to handle his family business in Jabalpur till he landed in Mumbai for a business tender ''which got delayed and took up more time. So I stayed back in Mumbai for about a month. I enrolled in Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting classes,'' he recalls. That's what we would call destiny. After the classes, Shaleen went for the MTV Hero Honda Roadies audition and got selected. ''Great fun it was. I was one of the roadies and travelled from Calcutta to the Wagah border on a bike,'' he recalls. After that, fortunately for the young actor, he also got selected in the talent hunt for MTV's Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi where he played one of the leads - Rajat. ''It was an amazing experience. Initially, I found it difficult to adjust to waiting hours in between shots, but I settled down,'' smiles Shaleen

Now, he's loving his TV stint. And guess what? He's done a Bengali film with Mithun Chakraborthy called Devdoot directed by T.L.V. Prasad in which he plays the villain. He's also acting in his first Hindi film which is a Fardeen Khan-Vivek Oberoi starrer though he doesn't want to talk about it. ''I will when the time is right,'' promises Shaleen.

As of now he is clearly having a ball with his two dailies. ''Completely, because they have a lot of scope for an actor who's just begun. Karan allows me to be the hardcore type, very calculating, manipulative, playing games, always upto something. Mihir is this sweet boy who likes the protagonist Sanya. He likes to show off a bit. Many times he lands up making a fool of himself to entertain others. It's a cute role,'' he explains seriously. What makes him happy is he's made his parents proud and knows there is lots more to come. ''Talks are on for some very interesting stuff. Going slow,'' he smiles. Well slow and steady wins the race.
