It's April and Punjabi's are eagerly waiting for their Harvest festival Baisakhi also known as Vaisakhi. Baisakhi coincides with many other festivals in India such as Puthandu festival in Tamil Nadu. Puthandu marks the beginning of new year in Tamil Nadu. Baisakhi / Vaisakhi is very important day in sikh religion as it marks the establishment of Khalsa. Nowadays Baisakhi is celebrated all over the world by Sikh community. Various Vaisakhi parades are held in countries likes Canada, United Kingdom and Australia. Vaisakhi is also celebrated in Hindu and Buddhist religion for various reason. One of the reason is the beginning of new year. Vishu is the beginning of new year in Kerala. For all the Hindus located in Punjab region of India Vaisakhi marks the start of new solar year. The day is celebrated with enthusiasm in Punjab. It is celebrated with essential bathing, Partying and worshipping. Among Hindu there is another ritual for celebrating Vaisakhi. They believe some thousands of year before goddess Ganga made sudden attack on earth and to honor her they bath in Ganga river on the day of Baisakhi.
Guru Amar Das Ji chose 3 festivals for the Sikhs to celebrate which are Maghi, Diwali and Baisakhi. As a reason of this Sikhs all over the world celebrate Vaisakhi. Sikh people visit gurdwara on the day of Vaisakhi with flowers in hand. Processions take place as well.
