Good post. Contracts will not work with tele shows. They don't have an intact story line and duration .Start with a fixed formula and proceed In whichever way the trp ratings demand. No body knows what the story demands and when it will end. So these shows are blessed with the concept of replacements.which films can never imagine. Actors commit to the shows are aware of these facts. If the actor is not convinced with the role or story she/he can't be forced to act. But they should opt out of the show. For me show is more important than actors. Why to get crappy tracks if the concerned actress has reluctance to give what the show needs? Professionalism is lacking in this business. our show is a good example for this Our show had a famous lead actor with a wider fan base .Some went with his exit.many of us stayed and some would have entered with the new replacement. The show goes on. Till things get streamlined such sorry state of affairs cannot be avoided.

Totally agree with you Sujata. I think this much of professionalism is not possible in current scenario. Nobody knows how the certain serial will fair. Everything depends on TRPs. If it is good then the show will run for years otherwise it will go off air within 6 months. Where is the professional guarantee to the actors?

But, I agree with you. All these things should be discussed before hand.

Yes. true professionalism is lacking in this business. Our show is a good example for this.

Radhika...I agree...no contract can foresee every possible scenario...and yes, storylines are not fixed and keep changing...however, there are certain staples on Indian shows...like romacne, marriage, babies, leaps etc...maybe they should discuss these things beforehand..where the actor makes it clear that certain things are possible by him or her and the producer also outlines possible scnarios...and they decide what would be viable mutually...

And yes, I too believe that the show should not suffer on account of an actor's preference...and yes, this show did suffer...and like you said, if there were people who chose to quit, there were people who chose to stay on and new audiences joined in too...goes to show that no actor, however big or small he or she maybe, can never be above a show...

We saw the same thing happen with another Star Plus show Saathiya too recently...the lead actor had to be replaced for certain reasons...but the show has survived her exit..and seems to be going strong even now.

Actor's contracts for for fixed periods...and extended based on the duration of the show...so that is a risk that everyone takes...that is the nature of the profession...but irrespective of whether the show or a film is a hit or not, and whether he makes money or not., the actor has to be paid...that is a risk that the producer also takes...risk is the name of the game at the end of the day...

Oh..don't ask about Saathiya story. The lead wanted to take part in JDJ but the channel refused( as it was to be aired on a rival GEC)...the production house wasn't proactive...and the lead was replaced...all hell broke loose...appeals were posted everywhere and fans went berserk. Things improved with time and now the new actress has fit in well. ...fans(including me) quoted MB-SK replacement success story in SNS forum all the time...if these examples are anything to go by then KTLK will survive even if (heaven forbid) an actress is replaced, provided her replacement is chosen carefully...the initial weeks will be filled with negativity but the storm will be over soon...Having said all this, I opine that KK is one of a kind and I don't want her to be gone

I know..there was quite a furore na...my mom was so used to Gopi vau that she was left wondering when the replacement happened...but she still watches the show...it is the storyline and the character at the end of the day...more than the actor...

Krithika is a fine actor. In my opinion, if the makers feel that the storyline cannot really be taken forward after a point, they may opt to end the show rather than think of any other alternative.

A decent end would be better than having puerile tracks...atleast we'll have fond memories of the show...😭

@Sujatha. Yes certain basic guidelines can be discussed and temporary contracts can be drawn. In my opinion if the makers have strong story line they won't end the show for an actor.
