What to do and what not to do?

Okay, this is not a bashing post...it has nothing to do with any one actor...it is a generic post just to understand what you feel about the issue...

We keep hearing all the time that actors are not willing to do this or that...they either walk out of the shows when things do not go their way or the makers make alterations to suit the requirements of the actors...

Of course, committing to a show is not a lifelong commitment...I mean even marriages do not last long these days...so, every actor has the right to leave or refuse to do things that might not suit his/her vision for professional growth...

In the West, I think there are ironclad contracts...on what the actor will be expected to do..and what he won't...and the willingness of the actor is obtained beforehand on this,...

Maybe things are not so cut and dried here...we have still not gotten to that level of professionalism...

But I think things are changing even in Bollywood...they work kissing scenes and bikinis into contracts these days...so both the film and the actor are protected...

Is it time for such clauses to be included for TV shows too...to list out the dos and don'ts before hand...so everybody is clear and storylines are not subject to abrupt changes...

In the Indian soap scenario. shows run for years...so the story cannot remain stagnant for long...it has to be fluid and has to progress...

Should all these things be discussed before hand so there is clarity on both sides? And there is no scope for cop-outs later on?

Yes, Sujathaji...very true...some more amount of professionalism should come into our TV shows...Recently, there was a news article in TOI, discussing abt. why Kareena refused to sign the contract for SLB's RAMLEELA...coz the contract said that she cannot get pregnant till the movie is done and she refused to sign it...hence the movie went to Deepika...very true that all these clauses should be there in the contract so that the show gets to maintain and adopt any storyline and remain fluid...I agree with u totally...! The list of clauses in a movie contract was also published in TOI and there were so many clauses, abt. which we cannot even imagine...since KK is not ready to be a mom, KPji is saying that we cannot expect a baby track at all...donot know how we will complete record episodes like eh Rishta...'...!

Fully agree with each & every word you have written Sujatha. But it is a long way to reach such level of professionalism esp in the Telly world simply bec after replacement the show can continue while it's not possible in films(eg film Heroine). In Telly world scripts are written sometimes only a few hours before the shooting starts & the actors don't know what they have to do till the last minute & some serials run for years & years with original plot lost somewhere. Its very much disorganized. But it will definitely happen in future albeit slowly.

I did not know that about Kareena and Ram Lila...but good na...both of them clarified on what was possible and what was not...and the film will not suffer now...

I don't think a Yeh rishtha situation is even a possibility with this show...even with Bidaai, if you recall, they had to go for a leap after a while...if the show is doing well, and you want to make the story fresh, a leap becomes unavoidable at times...but credit to Yeh RIshta that they managed 1000 epis without even a leap...and the baby track has also been handled very well...my mom never misses the show!

True Shubhangi...their disorganized way of functioning is shocking after a point...but hopefully, there things will get better in the future...

You can't blame them completely also...because tracks are picked up and dropped at will based on TRPs...they don't even give them a decent burial...like the last Mallika track we had...but I really think they can get more professional if they set their minds to it!

Sujata: Bollywood is way ahead of TV world.. Bottom to top there is vast difference.. Regarding Yeh rishta also being RS show.. The baby track started this yr, if i am nt mistaken.. So if you go to see they were doing without baby track epis with huge success... ktlk is vastly different show.. Now we hv new writers also on board, i am sure they will come up with various tracks in time being...

Harshal...this post was not specific to KTLK...it is generic...and sincerely hope the writers come up with something engrossing...

I am just talking about the overall lack of professionalism...and hoping that things get streamlined sooner or later!

Sujata: i knw you are talking abt professionalism, bt if you see TV shows banks heavily on news wales to promote their shows etc.. Whereas, Bollywood knws whatever they do automatically becmes headlines... I will give you one example: you knw that Roshan's are currently making magum opus superhero movie KRRISH-3, since Rakesh Roshan doesn't allow media ppl to come on sets, clicks, give away sme insider info regarding screenplay etc.. These media wale were so upset with them that they started all kinda BS abt the movie being adult, rift, etc.. So that RR will listen to them & give sme vital info abt the movie bt he didn't thanks to HRO.. Such rules & regulations are also followed by big banners of Bollywood.. Whereas TV industry is concerned they have to give away sme leaks, storyline, let news wales come on sets etc to let news abt their shows spread in electronic & print media houses..
