We keep hearing all the time that actors are not willing to do this or that...they either walk out of the shows when things do not go their way or the makers make alterations to suit the requirements of the actors...
Of course, committing to a show is not a lifelong commitment...I mean even marriages do not last long these days...so, every actor has the right to leave or refuse to do things that might not suit his/her vision for professional growth...
In the West, I think there are ironclad contracts...on what the actor will be expected to do..and what he won't...and the willingness of the actor is obtained beforehand on this,...
Maybe things are not so cut and dried here...we have still not gotten to that level of professionalism...
But I think things are changing even in Bollywood...they work kissing scenes and bikinis into contracts these days...so both the film and the actor are protected...
Is it time for such clauses to be included for TV shows too...to list out the dos and don'ts before hand...so everybody is clear and storylines are not subject to abrupt changes...
In the Indian soap scenario. shows run for years...so the story cannot remain stagnant for long...it has to be fluid and has to progress...
Should all these things be discussed before hand so there is clarity on both sides? And there is no scope for cop-outs later on?
