Mohnish Bahl – The Unsung
HERO
Posted on March 5, 2012 by admin
The legacy of heroes is the memory of a
great name and the inheritance of a
great example.
Benjamin Disraeli
It was an ominous message on a Tuesday
night that started probably one of the
biggest turmoil in the lives of many fans of
'Kuch to Log Kahenge', a daily on Sony TV!
Online forums like Telly Tadka, FaceBook
Fan pages, Twitter witnessed a flurry of
activity with worried fans left playing
guessing game deciphering the message!
Several gruelling hours later news of
Mohnish Bahl the male lead of KTLK
quitting came as a rude shock to the ardent
fans of the show who were suddenly left
high and dry.
As a TV and Bolly veteran, Mohnish Bahl's
return to TV as the lead (Doctor Ashutosh)
in Director Kut Production's KTLK
generated tremendous buzz! His unique
pairing with Kritika Kamra, a popular TV
actress added to the curiosity factor of the
junta! Viewers were looking forward to
seeing Mohnish or MB, as most of his fans
address him, brings to life the character of
a complex, unlikely hero who has spent
half his lifetime withdrawn in a shell and
under the shadow of pain & insecurity! And
boy what a treat it was…! It took just a few
episodes for MB's Ashu to make not just
the fictional character of Nidhi but also an
entire demographic of girls/women fall for
him! Overnight MB's gentle and warm
portrayal of Ashutosh ensured an upsurge
in his fan following be it in the audience or
his FB fanpage!
Who can forget the very first time Ashu
appeared on our screens, standing outside
his dream (his Baba ka makaan) with an
expression that oscillated from nostalgia to
grief to helplessness and anger. Thereafter
as the show progressed we discovered
several facets to the character of Ashu and
with it MB the Actor par excellence!
The image of Ashutosh and Nidhi in the
wet October rains sipping on a cuppa adrak
chai while bonding for the first time..would
surely stay vivid in the viewers mind! After
all 'adrak wali chai' became an important
constant in the lives of AshNi (Ashutosh +
Nidhi)! As we saw the AshNi bonding grow
from strangers to senior-junior to
familiarity to finally attraction and love, we
saw MB's varying range of skills as a
maestro churning out one memorable
performance after another! Be it the baring
of souls in the candle lit epi, the
friendliness and openness in the 'methi
muthiya' and picnic epis, the anguish and
pain after firing Nidhi, the desire to make
amends to finally falling in love and
confessing, MB brought to life each and
every nuance with his sheer brilliance
making many wonder why such a talent
remained unsung in the world of Bolly and
for so long!
As days passed on both the show and on
his official FB page, people got to see not
just the charming suave and dashing but
unlikely hero open up to become an unsure
but loving boyfriend onscreen; they also
got to interact, understand and engage with
an intelligent, deep thinking and sorted
man, MB himself, offscreen! However,
things did not seem to be all that bright for
KTLK with it failing to fire at the TRP charts
several months after its launch. This only
meant one thing, random new entries,
inconsistent and incomplete tracks, rushing
up of happy tracks and stretching of sad
and negative ones! But alas neither seemed
to bear the desired fruits! Amidst all of this
KTLK's identity as the official adaptation of
'Dhoop Kinarey' was lost!
On his FB wall, on quite a few occasions,
MB himself expressed his sadness at the
going on especially from the point of view
of the tracks, but like most of the fans he
too met with disappointment in the end..!!
Along with it all, as a matter of fact, just a
few days into the launch of the show, MB
had to take a break due to severe pain in
his lower back. The creative team was
innovative enough to accommodate him
and audiences ended up getting some
sweet AshNi moments. However, it seemed
the long and gruelling schedule of the TV
world and long distance travel were making
it more and more difficult for him to
manage things. Add to it the indigestible
tracks like butchering the characters of the
leads, age-gap track showing Nidhi giving
hair dye and spectacles to Ashu, a flurry of
separate frames and Body Double filled
scenes, absence of proper romantic scenes
seemed to have compounded things to such
an extent that all of a sudden on 28th
February at 4.28 pm Sneha Rajani the
Senior Executive Vice President & Business
Head of SET (Sony Entertainment
Television) confirmed MB's exit from KTLK
owing to health problems leaving many
KTLK fans in a state of utter disbelief. A
couple of hours later, the man himself
confirmed the news leading to heartache
and sadness all over.
From there began an undying and
passionate cry of fans which evolved in the
form of signing petitions to ensure MBs
continuation in KTLK, tweets to Sneha
Rajani to retain MB in KTLK, request to MB
to reconsider and outpouring of grief and
sadness on several online forums such as
Telly Tadka and MB's FB pages. Here are
what some of the fans of the show had to
say:
Message:
Tamanna –
MB is imprinted as Dr Ashutosh in My
mind..! I cannot differentiate between the
two.! .MB has Made Ashu a Real life
character….! For me Ashu is the one..who
looks lovingly at Nidhi,has Dimply
Smile,Takes A deep Breath while
saying..'Niddhi'..In Short..MB is Ashu..! Is it
fair On Viewers of KTLK to snap MB's image
as Ashu in a jiffy……??? I want to Ask..why is
this decision so sudden??..Viewers are
made fool by.Lead, PH and SET..Why they
did not break the News of replacement A
month earlier???..We could have been
mentally prepared! I want MB back….Cause
for me MB is Ashu and nobody else..But I
want him to Romance Nidhi in REAL way..by
touching her( wiping her tears,squeezing
her hands)..Not maintining 5 feet distance!!
But still i am willing to give PH/Lead a
chance coz.for me KTLK betterment comes
first and foremost!!
FB Messages on MBs official page:
'Mohnishji … we are feeling like Ashutosh …
you made us like Ashutosh … loved us,
gave us precious moments for remember …
then all of sudden you left us like BABA left
Ashutosh … Ashutosh never want anything
but the house … But Baba gave him
everything but not the house like we want
nothing else but KTLK …but you gave us
everything but not KTLK ..!'
'Every 5 minutes i'm going through your
page..just hoping for a miracle of your
return…honestly i still havent lost hope….i
knw you said that we will get to see you in
a movie or new show sooner or later…but
the fact is we wont get to see our beloved
ASHUTOSH Whom we love and adore to the
core….i hope we come back sir.. ..ashu had
become part of our everyday life..and
letting him go is very painfull…i knw his
just a reel character but your brilliant
performance madr him real for us… ?'
Tweets to Sneha Rajani :
'After ages ppl get a watchable show on tv
KTLK credit goes to SONY MB KK…plz don't
disappoint us get MB back!'
'Mohnish is Ashutosh and will always be…
we want him back plzzz get him back
somehow.!'
'Please do something. Without MB no life in
ktlk. We can't see show without him'
' KTLK Means ASHNI And AshNi Means
MohIka, Ashutosh Is ONLY Mohnish Bahl
And Nidhi Is ONLY Kritika Kamra,PLZ BRING
BACK MOHNISH.'
The amount of love, affection, concern and
anguish in these messages clearly indicate
the kind of impression MB and his
portrayal of Ashu has managed to create in
the hearts of his fans and admirers.
Unfortunately at the moment from Sneha
Rajani's last tweet, it seems that all
permutations and combinations to retain
MB have failed.
While a section of fans want the show to
end with MB & KK as AshNi uniting in the
end, there is a huge number who are
unwilling to continue with the show without
MB, however few do feel empathy for the
other cast members and crew who are but
silent bystanders to the whole ho-hum.
Whatever it is, amidst the entire
conundrum, the fate of KTLK the show is
certainly at stake!
On a concluding note, there are
no two
things on the fact that MB and Ashu both
truly are THE HERO at the end of it and
shall be missed by one and all — after all…
THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL!!

Somehow,I am feeling better about his exit.😊
I thought I will never be able to see the old episodes, but I can! 😊 I thought I will miss that.
Just imagine as if the show's first season ended, with the school date, and the next season began from the Delhi trip.It will help you in getting over it.When the new Ashu returns,we will watch if it works,if not fine,if yes, fine too.

Trust me,you will get over it.😊

Is this article by our own Tanu or is it someone else ???

So wonderfully written and expressed. Its a real tribute to Ashutosh- Wow!! Loved reading it...

And such a wonderful thought- to have expressed and published all our collective sentiments

For that - a huge big thank you 👏
