You know, I love two things: one is watching KRPKAB and the other is reading Pride & Prejudice...
It is fair to say that I love Dev and Sonakshi as much as I love reading about Darcy and Elizabeth... And, I don't know how much time have I spent comparing the two of them..
Looking from my P&P tinted glasses, seeing Dev-Sonakshi-Vicky-Suhana reminds me of the quadrilateral of Darcy-Elizabeth-Wickham-Georgiana...
Let's first start with the youngest ones, Georgiana and Suhana...
After his parents' deaths, Darcy raised Georgiana in a very sheltered environment.. He fulfilled every one of her wants and desires.. And, for his sister, he meant the world...
Since, he never wanted her sister to suffer anymore than she had already suffered, due to the unfortunate incidents of their parents' deaths... He wanted her to enjoy her childhood and wished that his sister's innocence lasts for as long as possible...
But, with Wickham's evil intentions of causing Darcy pain, he used Georgiana's innocence and naivety for his own advantage... But, before he could succeed, Darcy, by chance, decided to surprise his sister..
And, once his sister came out of this euphoric feeling of being someone's center of the Universe, she was wracked with guilt when she realised the pure and unconditional love of her brother and hence, revealed the complete truth to her brother...
But, while Darcy managed to protect her sister from the bigger evil, yet Wickham partially succeeded in his plans, since her sister definitely lost a part of her innocence and childhood... This was the trigger point for Darcy as he became even more protective and also slightly harsher on everyone, apart from his sister.. With this, he also sort of... shifted his focus to his sister and isolated himself from the rest of the society...
And, here's the thing, Georgiana was an intelligent and a compassionate individual, whose pure heart was used and ripped apart and it didn't completely heal until Elizabeth came into the picture..
She was a late entree into this inner circle but it was her exuberance and vivaciousness which allowed her to pull not only Darcy, but also Georgiana out of her remorse.
Suhana, like Georgiana, is a young intelligent girl, who is witty and focused and yet, innocent and naive in the matters of both heart and mind...
For Sonakshi, she was like her little ray of Sunshine.. Her hope after a bitter and painful separation, and hence, she didn't want any harm to ever come to her...
This is probably why, she wants to shelter Soha from every harm... She doesn't her daughter to suffer anymore pain than she has already experienced in her young life, with the absence of her father... Soha's happiness played a very crucial factor in the reunion of Dev and Sonakshi...
And, now when she sees her daughter smiling and playing with Golu, she doesn't wish anything to happen which might disturb or rob this happiness from her daughter.. She only wants her daughter to experience good memories in Ishwari Niwas, which she was unable to achieve during her marriage with Dev...
Ishwari Niwas might have been the place where Dev and Sona might have gotten closer, but 7 years back, it was indeed a very hostile place for their relationship to blossom and grow... The constant resistance from Ishwari, taunts from GKB and Vicky (as well as Neha on some occasions) never truly allowed her to settle in IN or consider it as her home... Her only reason for living in IN was her connection with Dev.
Yes, she had her special moments in IN with Dev but her walking out after Dev's Get Out' and the Boses' expulsion from their home were the dark memories from her marriage which ruined her relationship with Dev..
This is what she probably meant when she said that one bad memory could ruin every good one'...
And, so when she decided to move back into IN, after Ishwari's acceptance and then, the reunion of the Dixit sisters as well as GKB becoming satisfied with the keys, she finally thought that she can safely put her days of her failed marriage away for good...
She understood things will never be idyllic, but she was finally earned a place in IN where both Dev and she could work out the remaining chinks in their relationship and Soha could finally have the happiness that she always deserved of being loved and cherished by both of them...
In the first season, Dev's marriage with Sonakshi should have been the beginning of his happy' days... Days and weeks which were only filled with happiness and contentment... According to him, his marriage was the key with which he could successfully lock and forget about his childhood trauma.. But, it was his past which interfered then and he could never completely come out of it till the Khatri track, and then, the subsequent tracks of his sisters and Ishwari's job...
Now, with his family members finally happy and settled in their own personal lives, he has all the freedom in the world to focus on his own family (Sonakshi & Suhana)...
Similarly, in this season, Sona's decision to move into IN was finally her version of a new beginning of her happy' days... But, everything went for a toss when Vicky's misdeeds came into light...
If this was season 1 Sonakshi... She would have been more than happy with Dev's decision... But, now all she sees the ensuing chaos that will happen... She desperately wants to look only ahead and not behind, as stated by her dialogue to Asha yesterday... And, this chaos is forcing her to again take a look back at her past 7 years and at this point, she doesn't want to drag herself back into her past...
This was why, she was hesitant to reveal anything to Dev... It is not that she cares for Tripathis' more than she care for Dev or Suhana, but she knows that living in IN, comes with its own consequences...
Ishwari's so called way of relieving her debts towards her brother's family and both Dev and Soha's affection towards Golu will never truly allow Tripathis' to move away from their lives... And, that means, according to her, if she wants to finally achieve her own dreams of having her family with Dev means, that she has to bear the burden of dealing with Tripathis' on a regular basis, then, so be it...
But, in her tunnel vision, what she is not able to see is that Dev had already travelled on the same boat as her, and already is aware of the consequences if he allows Vicky to re-enter IN as well as that while Suhana does want Golu to be back but she does not need Golu to be happy.. She only needs her parents' constant love and attention to have a memorable and a beautiful childhood.
Now, coming back to Pride & Prejudice, both Sonakshi and Elizabeth had pretty similar traits and flaws...
Both Sonakshi and Lizzie were very good observers and hence, very good judge of an individual's character...
Mr Darcy and Wickham were the only two mistakes that Elizabeth actually made in her assessment... Her first and the most obvious one, was she continued to remain baffled and continuously made errors (either major or minor) with regards to Darcy's behavior, till the very end of the book... Her second, less obvious mistake was that she took Mr Wickham very lightly, even after coming to know of his true character.. And, it was the second mistake which finally became the origin of her accepting and embracing her own flaws...
Similarly, Sonakshi, since the start of the series has been mostly right about everything except when two things... First one, her continuous string of mistakes in assessing or reading Dev perfectly and second one, is taking Vicky lightly... And, yesterday's episode highlighted both of the above mentioned mistakes pretty well..
Even after coming to know of Vicky's misdeeds, she still is hoping against hope that Vicky has changed, just for the sake of moving ahead...
And, like Lydia's elopement with Wickham made Lizzie realize her own fallibility... It will be Suhana's upcoming heartbreak and Vicky's role in it that will make Sona realize the enormity of her mistakes... Because, like Lizzie, she will also have to take the full responsibility of her mistakes...
Now, jumping back to the KRPKAB world...
The way this track has been set up, makes me seriously believe that this track has been created as a direct parallel to the Ayaan track in the first season...
During the Ayaan track, everyone remembers that Sona was the one who was fighting against everyone at IN... She was suspicious from the start and continued to stand her ground, despite what everyone else thought about her...
But, what people usually forgot about the track, that initially Dev was also hesitant to believe Sonakshi... But, when he realized that his wife was adamant in finding out the truth, he completely supported her...
Between all of this mess, Sona was made to believe she was pregnant and Dev, in order to shelter her from the pain, he lied to her about the pregnancy...
And, everything became a mess when Ayaan came to know of this truth and he decided to use Dev's love for Sonakshi and gave him an ultimatum to let him marry his sister, or else, he will reveal the whole truth to Sonakshi..
And, in the end, Dev, even though, knew the true character of Ayaan was ready to accept the proposal for Ria... It was pure desperation that made him take this decision, even though, he knew what he was doing will not be helpful to anyone...
Similarly, in this track, while initially hesitant to reveal the truth of Vicky's role in Boses' eviction to Dev in fear of the ensuing chaos, but when Dev ousted his brother from IN... She supported his actions as well as understood his intentions and fear when he slapped Vicky in front of their daughter...
This is also the reason why she took a stand for Dev when she went to meet Elena (in Monday's episode) by citing the numerous occasions where Dev had forgiven Vicky in the past...
But, what she never expected was Suhana's becoming more and more distant from her parents with each passing day... Sonakshi is not used to this emotional disconnect that is currently happening right now...
And, in her mind, it is because of her being angry with them for keeping her away with her brother and uncle... Ideally, she should communicate and reveal the truth to her daughter...
But, like Dev was unable to tell Sona the truth during Ayaan track, due to his fear of causing pain to her... Similarly, the same fear has now also gripped her... She is standing at the same crossroads as Dev once stood... In her eyes, she has to choose between two wrongs, either losing her daughter or accepting Vicky back...
In her desperation to finally have her Soha back, she is nearly ready to even accept Vicky back, even if it meant going against Dev... In this game, Vicky's intended target was Dev and Soha was just a tool but in reality, it is Sona who has slowly reaching her breaking point...
But, what was most fascinating about the Ayaan track, was that it was Dev, who finally dealt with Ayaan and not Sonakshi, even though she did all the hard work... In my opinion, while Sona will crumble after coming to know of Vicky's role in Soha's current state, she will, with Dev's help will deal the final blow to Vicky...
Vicky has always underestimated Sonakshi and takes her benevolence and forgiving nature for granted... But, by using Suhana as the tool, I believe that Sona will finally come out of her stupor and deal with the Tripathis' with the same firmness as Dev did, until now...
But, for this to happen, Sona has to expose her inner demons for Dev and instead, of going on a lone hero mission, he has to act as an anchor for Sonakshi...
While I love reading literature in general, the reason why Pride & Prejudice is probably my most beloved novel is because I see the love story of Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy & Ms Elizabeth Bennet not only because it is romantic... But, because I consider it as a game of two halves where none of them was the absolute winner... Both of them suffered defeats at the hands of other and this is what made them respect each other and consider each other as their equal...
Throughout the first half, whatever Elizabeth did or said was ended up being true... By rejecting Darcy's first proposal at Hunsford, she successfully humbled the proud' Darcy... So, in this sense, she claimed herself as victorious...
But, the turning point was the farewell letter that Darcy sent to her explaining the reasons behind his actions or words...
The whole second half dealt with Elizabeth's flaws... She, after coming to know the truth, forgave Darcy as well as realized her own follies, but she never had the courage to truly accept them...
When the proposal for Lydia to go to Brighton with the regiment came, she knew the dangers of having Wickham around, yet, she hid it from her father since it will mean the person that she, at one point held at high regard, was actually a rake and a scoundrel...
And, this meant that her observations and her belief that she is an excellent judge of someone's character was not as impeccable as she once thought... She, unintentionally became guilty of the same crimes or character defects that she once hurled at Darcy...
When she finally visited Pemberley, she was hesitant and wished to avoid Darcy at all costs, in fear of his reaction... But, she did meet him and realized that he has indeed changed and he doesn't hold her initial opinions about him against her, she realized that she was in some ways, he absolved her of her mistakes with her pride left intact...
During the visit, she started harboring some kind of hope with regards to Darcy, but before it could become anything more, the letter with Lydia's elopement with Wickham came and with it, she realized that in order to protect herself from accepting her own flaws, she unintentionally failed in her duty as Lydia's elder sister and there was no one else to blame except her own pride...
So, unintentionally, Wickham caused the downfall of Elizabeth... And, she only recovered from it when Darcy intervened and made Wickham marry Lydia... By doing this, he saved her sister and also in some way, became her savior and hence, made her realize that he is her equal.
So, in the end, the last draw was in Darcy's favor and hence, he was the one who was actually victorious in this game... But, it would not have been the case, if Elizabeth hasn't made him realize his mistakes...
And, this became the source of an endless argument where none was the victor but both were defeated...
Similarly, in the case of our show...
Throughout the first season, Sonakshi was the one who was always proven to be right... And, she claimed a victory when she threw her Mangalsutra into the raging fire between them...
But, as the second season progressed, we are finally seeing her flaws a lot more clearly and openly... She knows that she has made mistakes, but she doesn't want to accept them because it will negate every single thing that she once held her husband accountable for...
So, when she observed the changes in Dev and then, Ishwari after her subsequent re-entry into IN, she felt that she could move ahead without her pride getting hurt... She knows that she has made mistakes in judging Dev and in some ways, also responsible for the pain she caused Soha by keeping her away from her father...
But, she felt that if she could gift them some memories, then her own guilt will also be washed away... But, this all came to a stuttering stop when Vicky's deeds were revealed and now, with the upcoming heartbreak of her daughter, she realized that she has unintentionally failed in her duty as a mother...
At that point, it is only Dev who could save her from drowning herself in her own guilt and remorse... And, probably, this will what make her realize mistakes in the true sense and realize how Dev is her better' half and how he completes her...
This is why I am so excited and intrigued about how this track and other tracks are shaping up...
Now, moving to yesterday's episode, the dialogue which I felt was the most important one was Sonakshi's plea to her mother to take box full of memories of both her and Soha back to her own home, Dixit House...
Throughout the first season, Sona always felt like an outsider at Ishwari Niwas because she felt that her marital home is first and foremost, Ishwari's residence... And, it is only her mother-in-law's acceptance that can truly welcome her in her home...
But, this time around, with her finally embracing the Dixit in her, she has realized that Dixit House is her home... And, for me, her saying Dixit House' instead of Ishwari Niwas' holds a lot of significance...
For one, she now feels that IN is her home, not because it is Dev's home or because Ishwari has finally accepted her... But, she has begun to consider herself as Mrs. Dixit' and with her referring to Soha as Suhana Dixit', she no longer feels alienated or isolated as she, considers herself to be a Dixit...
Also, with her taking the boxes of her memories to IN, she has sort of... vacated her space in the Bose house...
This is why, I believe that both Dev and Sonakshi will mutually decide to leave Ishwari Niwas on their own volition and move to a new residence which will become the home of their own family...
Ishwari Niwas, in truth, was Dev's gift to her mother for her contribution in his success... And, since, Mamaji supported Ishwari during her time of need, IN became the medium for Ishwari to pay her debts to her brother and his family...
And, hence, IN which was initially built to become the safe haven for the Dixits became the home for the Tripathis'... And, until the two families remain in close proximity, it is nearly impossible for the ripples of the Tripathis' to not affect the Dixits and hence, the core family of Dev-Sona-Soha and Ishwari...
By moving out of IN, the debt of Ishwari will finally be paid in full and the added distance will finally allow Dev and Sona to focus more on their daughter and themselves, instead of getting sucked in the matters of the Tripathis'... And, hence, the time of Trixits will finally come to an end.
And, with this, Sona's words of going to her own home, Dixit House might end up becoming true in the real sense...
If this happens, it will be truly amazing but this is something which I feel should not be taken as a definite or foregone conclusion...
