I don't know why I see no excitement in the forum because what we saw today was surely something I have never seen in any Indian show before this. I mean we all have said this many times but today clearly fits the bill for its story and concept if nothing else. Wow! The level of maturity (again said many times) was on some other level today. I am again feeling the same amazement as a felt during ishwari's chori issue because I have never seen such sensitive issues handled on TV before. A mother who always has been bias towards her son. Though her eldest daughter had been first hand privy to all this at a very young age.. The two younger ones were, well, still smaller in age to understand. To them their father figure, brother and guardian was always dev. And their relation with their mother always being distant... He was the only chord. And thus truth came out more bitterly once sonakshi left. She took dev the man with her. All what was left was the shadow of a man who once was. So literally the backbone of the household broke... Not only because of dev himself but also because of his broken relations with his mom. As Nikki said. Once dev went into depression and distanced himself, ishwari did the same as if they didn't matter to her. Only they three were left all alone so they made their own lives.
I loved loved this conversation just for its subtleties, as well as depth. How differential treatment effects relationship, how one relationship affects all others, and how such closed relations (like dev and ishwari) may effect the whole family. I have never seen these issues brought up on TV before.
Even more, I loved how they have characterised Nikki. So strong, mature and clear headed she has become! To have the guts to say everything to sonakshi!
Her every dialogue was on point today.
Sona then was at fault too. She not only left dev but them too. If no one else Nikki loved her lie her own. I do understand how difficult it was for sona and how she coudnt call to maintain relations with them, but I understand Nikki too. Sona never tried to contact them in these seven years. So she can't just waltz back in their lives right?
And as for her family... That's a completely different ballgame. As Riya said they lost their bhai when sona left. And dev too stopped paying them any heed. Clearly ishwari did the same and everyone forgot about the daughters. So her words jinko pata hona chahiye unko mera pata pata hai...however bitter were true. Leaving dev aside for the moment, it seems ishwari niether cake to share her sorrow with them not shared their pain. They literally had no one.
The creatives have brilliantly woven this issue of ishwari's biases with the separation. That was the main reason for the family's breakdown not sona. And I am glad they brought it up! That is what we had wanted right? So ishu will know this was not only because of separation but how she had treated them their whole lives. It is clear from both riya and nikki's words. Both are angry at dev and ishwari.. And sona because her leaving triggered this so it's very natural.
The other thing that impressed me today was this idea of a live in relationship. Not only the fact that it is a completely different concept shown, but also the reason behind it. Nikki finally understood what we always knew about the dixits. The slightly dysfunctional family, dev and ishwari being a core with everything else on the fringes, where people hardly spoke their true mind nor did they have the opportunity to, and relations could be maintained or not as per convenience. Her own bitter experience with her family led to her disenchantment such it as well with marriage. So she finds living in, without marrying, just the two of them, in close connection a better option. Now of course it is a schock to sona and dev and the family but why not. After all she is an adult, has been taking decisions for herself for so long, and lakshya seems to have been beside her when no one was. And I loved how she pointed out... Kya aap aur dev bhayiya ke room me aur bhi koi rehta hai? Right isint it? They are the same... A couple in love, each others partners only having not gone through some rituals. So why would anyone else stay with them? Now myself and many of us have no problem with it but of course the elders so. Both dev and sona's reactions were very real today! Sona trying to convince that what is the harm in marrying and dev being angry and slightly uncomfortable. Very natural. But ask yourself dev.. Why would she have informed you! And when you were not there she has made her own life so you can't just barge in on her life and point fingers at her now.
Nikki is right when she says no one will try to understand her and instead will ask questions and judge lakshya. When in fact her fears about marriage, about love are all very real. After all she saw her ideal relationship break down before her as well as the consequences it lead to.
So as you can guess I loved the entire episode and special the conversation! Loved the story, concept, how they have incorporated the theme of the show, the reactions and emotions of the characters...everything!
I can't wait to see how the sisters mend their relation with their brother and mother. And how ishwari realises where she went wrong!
Anyway she seems to be still learning! I liked how she worded her insecurities, how she stood between dev and sona, how every relation should have a boundary etc all of which we are saying from day one.
And bonus, she also is now realising the void it would leave in her heart and how she needs to invest her time in something else!
It seems like every characters is growing, and how beautifully!
Sona will fully realize the implications of her leaving and dev of what he had done then. And now that they have each others back they will together make up from and mend all mistakes of the past! And that would further strengthen their relation. The resolution of all these matters are required before they can move on with normal lives. And I for one can't wait to see how they progress this track!
