This post is to just to put a thought into those who are weighing Ishwari & RR in the same scale. And even before I start the post, I would like to put a disclaimer: This is strictly not to whitewash Ishwari of what she did; rather to share my POV on why RR & her red should not be forgiven easily. I would not say they should be handed over to the police; but they need to be punished in some way.
Now, coming to the main topic, here's my take on why Ishwari is indeed a far better mother than RR.
1. Ishwari stole the bangles out of helplessness (though I strictly condemn that act mainly because, as Malti said, there are many who manage to live their lives without stealing) and this same RR who was in Friday's episode was shown as shedding crocodile tears for hiding the truth from her, was of no use to Ishwari at that time. And the situation Ishwari stole the bangles, was that they were living in a single-room, from where they could be ousted any time for not paying the rent. And she was the sole earner of her family and Dev was only in the school right at that time.
Whereas when RR decided to burn her house inorder to get into Ishwari Nivas, she had her own furnished house, well equipped for 3 of them. Moreover, Mamaji was an earning member and her son, was old enough to get a job and support them.
2. Many may say because of Ishwari's that one act, Malti lost her husband and I agree, it is indeed a big matter. But, didn't by separating Dev & Sona, RR & Vicky do the same. For argument sake, we can say, nobody was physically dead. However, didn't they play with the lives of Dev, Sona & Soha for 7 years?. And if Sona hadn't come back to Delhi, wouldn't have Soha live without a father her whole life? So, to me, RR & Vicky aren't less responsible than Ishwari.
3. Before going into the third point, I would like to share rather remind you all a story - The story of a thief and his mother.
A boy who was carrying his teacher's writing tablet stole it and brought it triumphantly home to his mother who received the stolen goods with much delight. Next, the boy stole a piece of clothing, and by degrees he became a habitual criminal. As the boy grew older and became an adult, he stole items of greater and greater value. Time passed and the man was finally caught in the act and taken off to court where he was condemned to death: woe betide the trade of the thief! His mother stood behind him, weeping as she shouted, 'My son, what has become of you?' He said to his mother, 'Come closer, mother, and I will give you a final kiss.' She went up to him, and all of a sudden he bit her nose, tugging at it with his teeth until he cut it clean off. Then he said to her, 'Mother, if only you had beaten me at the very beginning when I brought you the writing tablet, then I would not have been condemned to death!'
Why I shared this story, I hope many of you would have understood by now.
Ishwari stole those bangles. But, she never let her kids walk through that path. If her aim was to get rich at any cost, she would have trained Dev to go through short cut methods. Instead she had taught him to always think of the unprivileged - The old peon, the old driver, the children's ward - all are examples of her right upbringing. I would like to see it as another reason why she hided her theft from her kids - because she didn't want to be a bad example to her kids.
Whereas, what have RR always taught Vicky. She herself by stealing from Ishwari's drawer was giving a bad message to Vicky. After that only we saw Vicky stealing Dev's watch. All this while she has supported Vicky in all his galat harkathein, except for playing with anyone's life. And if it were not Dev who had taken care of Golu, RR & Vicky would have brought up Golu in the same way, thus passing it on to the coming generations. So, just like what happened in the above story, I am just waiting for the day when Vicky will be biting RR's nose and saying, 'If you had been a good mother, I would not have seen this fateful day in my life'.
