Devakshi FF: Reaching Out
Part 21
Sonakshi took a deep calming breath.
She couldn't lose her temper here.
So she fisted her hands and walked forward towards Dev. She first looked at Tina. Then she looked at Riya, who was right next to Tina. Then she gave Neha a look and finally her eyes landed on Ranveer. She couldn't believe it. The entire gang was here?
But how did they even figure out that she was here? Her eyes then turned towards Dev. Was he trying to be his detective self again? Keeping an eye on her wherever she went? But how was that possible? She had been careful. Extra careful in fact. To not giveaway her hideout. She hoped that it was mere chance that brought them here.
She wanted to yell at Dev, to say whatever she'd been planning since he left her in the penthouse. But she couldn't lose her cool. She couldn't give away her pain just yet. She would have to handle this like a matured adult. Since clearly Dev had given up on being the adult, from what she'd seen inside. She would show him how to be an adult. So she opened her mouth to give him a piece of her mind, but in the adult-way of course.
"Mr. Dixit aap-"
But before she could even begin properly Dev cut in.
"Ranveer, bohot late nahin ho raha? Car me baith, ghar jaake bohot kaam hai.
Even though he was talking to Ranveer, he kept his eyes on Sonakshi, who at the moment was staring daggers at him. But his gang was handling it even worse. Tina and Riya were full on gaping, while Neha was coughing.
Ranveer, the only one still in sensible enough to reply said, "K-Kya? Par Dr. Bose toh kuch keh rahi hai naah?
Now Dev turned towards Ranveer, "Mujhsey baat karna koi simple baat nahin hoti. Appointment lena padhta hai. Woh approve ho, toh hi actually milke baat kar pate hai log. Aur Dr. Bose ko yeh achhey se pata hai.
Sonakshi was trying very hard to hold it together. He was the one who created the problem. But now that she had come to tell him off, he had the gall to act all high and mighty. Sonakshi had this familiar urge to throw something at him. But unfortunately, she had nothing to throw. Dev turned to look back at her once, making sure that her eyes were on him.
With that he turned around, dragged the others towards the car. Getting into the driver's side Dev made sure everyone was seated as Sonakshi looked on. Then turning to look at her once, he smirked.
"Have a nice night Dr. Bose.
With that he drove off, leaving her to gape after him.
Sonakshi wanted to scream. How dare he?! But what could she do now? He had gone, without even listening to what she had to say. She tried to calm her breathing. She had a mind to go right after him, and put him in his place right outside his house. But before she could command her legs to take her there she heard her name being called.
"Sona?
She whirled around to see Jatin standing on the last step. She broke out of her bubble of anger. She had completely forgotten about Jatin. She looked at him. His voice sounded hoarse, all thanks to that childish human. She walked up to him.
"Kaisa lag raha hai ab?
Jatin coughed and then cleared his throat.
" Beheter? Ghar chalein? I need to fix this Jatin said pointing at his throat.
Sonakshi immediately looked guilty, "Haan bilkul. Mere saath chal, issey theek karengey.
Unlike Sonakshi, Jatin had no idea about the person behind his present state. He still thought it was the waiter's mistake. While one part of Sonakshi wished to tell him the truth, the other part stopped her from doing it. They called a cab and got in, directing the driver to take them to the hotel where Jatin was staying.
Sonakshi turned towards Jatin.
"Pehley ma ke paas chalengey. Woh tere iss discomfort ko theek kar dengi. Unke paas bohot se gharelu tricks hote hai she told him seriously.
Jatin smiled, " Tension mat le Sona. Itna bhi serious nahin hai. She was amazed how calm he looked. She knew his throat must have been burning up. But Jatin had never been one to complain about his discomfort. He had been like this, right from his childhood days, when they went to school together.
She smiled affectionately at him, "Mujhey toh tu convince kara lega ki tension ki baat nahin hai, par ussey kaise samjhayega? She said wiggling her eyebrows, lightening the matter.
Jatin chuckled, "Ussey tu sambhalegi. Mujhey rest ki zaroorat hai. Main chilla toh nahin paunga.
Sonakshi made a face, "Haan, har difficult kaam tu mujhey de deta hai. Not fair!
But then she looked guilty again. "Sorry yaar. Maine hi yeh restaurant choose kiya tha. Mujhey ka pata tha ki... she clenched her fists again as she was reminded of Dev.
Jatin put his hand on top of hers good-naturedly, "It's okay yaar. Ho jata hai aisa. Bohot zyada sochti hai tu.
Sonakshi smiled. She was glad to have a friend like Jatin. By that time they had arrived at the hotel. Sonakshi accompanied Jatin, inside. But instead of going up to his room, Sonakshi dragged him to the room where her mother, her sister Elena and her Sister- in-law Raunita were staying. They had come to meet her and Jatin had decided to accompany them as he missed his best friend a lot.
Sonakshi was surprised to find them outside Mr. Shukla's door bright and early in the morning two days ago. Her first reason of shock was because she hadn't told them about her shift. On ushering them in, they told her how they got her present address from the hospital. So then, she had to tell them everything. She had cried while narrating the story and Mr. Shukla had sat beside her and held her hand as she completed it.
Her mother had been extremely grateful to Mr. Shukla and had thanked him time and again, even though Mr. Shukla had dismissed her gratitude every time with a wave saying it was his duty to look after his daughter. The daughter that had looked after him at his worst. Elena had gone ahead and made it clear that she wanted to give Dev a piece of her mind. But she had simmered down when Mr. Shukla, Jatin, Raunita, Asha and to everyone's surprise, Sonakshi had tried to explain that there must have been more to the story. No, no, Sonakshi had not forgiven Dev. That wasn't possible. But she knew very well that Dev wouldn't do anything without a reason. So she didn't deal well when someone said rude things about Dev.
She couldn't make arrangements for them to live in Mr. Shukla's house as it wasn't big enough, about which Mr. Shukla was very unhappy. But they cheered him up by saying that they would try to come down for dinner every night. So Sonakshi had made arrangements for them to live in a fancy hotel nearby.
Asha had complained about it as she didn't want her daughter to waste money on something so fancy when they could be perfectly comfortable in something lesser. But Sonakshi had shut her up saying that her daughter was capable of letting them have an extravagant time and so she would and that if Asha didn't like it, then she should just deal with it. That had made everyone burst into laughter.
But in the end Jatin had convinced Sonakshi that he would split the payments with Sonakshi and that there would be no point arguing about that. So she had given up and agreed. At present, she pulled Jatin along and knocked on Asha's door. But the door was opened by Raunita.
"Arey Sona? Dinner itni jaldi khatam?
Sonakshi made a face, "Andar chalo, sab batati hoon.
Having seated themselves on the couch, Sonakshi told them the story. Of course she left out the part about the culprit actually being Dev and that she had found that out when she was trying to stop Jatin's coughs and had spotted Dev sitting at a table behind theirs, but otherwise she told them the whole thing. The moment she finished, two people reacted. The first one was Asha.
"Oho. Kahan tha maine ghar pe khao humarey saath, par nahin. Dekha na kya hua. Ruko, main kuch karti hoon issey theek karne ke liye. Jatin, chup chap baithey rehna yahan. Jatin could only nod at that.
Originally, all of them were supposed to go for dinner together. But Asha, Elena and Raunita fell sick with something they had eaten the day before and Sonakshi didn't want them to cook separately for Jatin and herself, so she had decided that both of them would eat out. But now it seemed like they would also end up eating in. She furrowed her brows. It was all because of him.
The second one to react was Elena. "Tum se kitni baar kahan hai maine, dhyaan rakha karo, par tumhey kuch sunai bhi deta hai?
Jatin's eyes widened in alarm. He looked helplessly towards Sonakshi. Sonakshi jumped in to rescue him, " Ele, uski koi galti nahin hai. Usko kaise pata hoga ki uske mocktail me mirchi hogi?
Elena made a face, " Isiliye kehti hoon, ajeeb se naam waley mocktail mat piyo. Pata nahin kismey kya ho! She then softened a bit, "Ab kaisa lag raha hai tumhey? Jatin smiled, "pehley se beheter.
Sonakshi sighed in relief. They'd been successful in toning down Elena's anger. Well, it was pretty normal for her to be worried. After all, her boyfriend was suffering. So anger and concern was a given. Sonakshi smiled at the scene before her. Elena was gently talking to Jatin as he smiled and replied to her. They were perfect. While Elena was the wild one, Jatin was the calm and collected one. She had been very happy when the match had finally been made and she was proud to proclaim that she had played cupid, much like she had for her Dada and Raunita.
Right at that moment, there was a knock on their door and Asha hurried to open it. She thanked the man who had brought the glass of cold milk she had ordered and then gave it to Jatin so that the burning would subside. Raunita then came and sat beside Sonakshi.
"Mujhey aisa kyun lag raha hai ki tune humein poori story nahin batayi? she enquired. Sonakshi looked up in shock!
K-Kya matlab?
Raunita smiled, "Ab yeh toh tujhey hi pata hoga.
Sonakshi averted her eyes. She stood up suddenly and said, "Main abhi chalti hoon. Nahin toh Mrs. Shukla ko mere liye wait karna padega. Aapko toh pata hai woh sab jaldi so jatey hai.
Asha, Jatin and Elena nodded but Raunita continued to look at her suspiciously, but Sonakshi ignored that. She quickly walked to her new home, which was barely five minutes away. She was greeted by the Shuklas warmly. She didn't feel like having a conversation at present, so she ate dinner with them quietly and then excused herself saying she was tired and sleepy.
She escaped to her room. Having gotten ready for bed, she sat down on her bed and thought back to the events. She couldn't understand Dev. Wasn't he the one who had wanted to end all contact? Then why had he tried to get hold of her, more than once? More importantly, why did he spoil her evening? Wasn't this pain enough? A tear slid down her left cheek. Only she knew what she was going through. Initially she had thought that she would brush it off. It wouldn't be difficult to live without him. But that illusion had been broken on the second day of her stay at the Shuklas when she had cried herself to sleep.
When she saw him earlier that night she wanted to walk right up to him and tell him that she had been to hell and back since he left. But she couldn't do it. Because on spotting him, instead of anger, she had experienced a strange happiness. Something she couldn't explain. Sonakshi fell back onto the bed.
Why did he leave? They were so happy. They had something that she never experienced with anyone before. Their love was beautiful. But apparently it wasn't strong enough to make him stay. If only it was. As Sonakshi kept thinking about Dev, her eyes landed on the clock and she was shocked to find that it was 2 in the morning already. She needed to sleep. These sleepless nights were becoming a habit now. She got up to drink some water.
Walking towards the window, where the table with the water bottle was, she looked out at the calm night. Drinking a sip of water she walked out to the small balcony on her left. She admired the starry sky, or whatever she could see of it over the tall buildings. But when her eyes moved downwards she was shocked to find a car standing there. A very familiar car. Dev's car.
She ran into her room, put on her slippers and quietly made her way to the front door. Stepping outside she ran towards the place, but there was no car there.
But she knew what she saw. And she definitely saw Dev's car.
And that meant two one thing.
He knew where she was staying.
And, he was keeping an eye on her.

I know many of you expected a proper confrontation here. But i believe it was important to give a view of Sonakshi's state along with Dev's before a proper confrontation happened.
