Is this show still character driven?

I was reading a recent article interviewing Yash Patnaik, he mentioned the KRPKAB was a character driven show and that is why it connected with the viewers. However, after this week I don't feel this is a character driven show it seems to have quickly moved to plot driven, since they are hell bent on butchering Devs character and Ishwaris too. The characters are no longer developing.
How did Dev not keep tabs on Sonakshis personal life is beyond his characterization also, how is he so blind to facts, and ishwari seems to be moving quickly away from the mom who loves her son and is now hell bent on keeping Sona away from her for no apparent logical reason... Why so much hate towards Sona? How is Ishwaris character still justified in hating Sona after the sisters have been settled? Their finances are no longer at risk as per Dev in the initial episodes of the leap.

Why drag this part of the show if they still have so much redemption/character building to show? I really hope they don't make Ishwaris redemption in a single episode like they treated the make up after the first break up, where Saurab called Dev and there was a patch up and engagement the same night without any real heart to heart or apology.

The plots seem to be cliche as well with remarriage and custody seemingly on the way.

Do people agree with Patnaik that this is a character driven show still ... This interview was dated very recently

I do not know about the general opinion but I feel that the show has always been character driven. The core nature of a person remains but their reactions change according to the circumstances. For eg in yesterday's episode, there was no plot. Only circumstances and dialogues to support them.
Dev saw Jatin Soha Sona; Ishwari decides to lie; Sona confronts her parents; Soha's friendship with Dev; Golu's jealousy
The story is moving forward just based on characters. Just my POV.

Characters are not constant always. Their core will be the same. But we don't act the same in every situation. We screw up and learn. We have our own shares of happiness and sadness. The development of the character/attitude is based on the situation. They are showing the different shades of it. :)

I feel the preleap was based on characters and the situations; however, the postleap looks more for trp, drama quotient... they've completely butchered dev's character. He was always emotional, but never so illogical or dumb... If ishwari's character was bad in preleap, now they've made it worse.. they've completely slaughtered these characters with no sign of redemption from either of them...
Usually in Indian serials the MILs are vindictive towards the DIL, but this is the first time where a ML lead's mother is hellbent in spoiling her son's life...
