Instead of staying in hotel separate from his mom Dev could have made a separate house with Sona 7 years back and lived happily ever after rather that pushing her away. Don't know what really stopped him then. Sona never wanted to leave him anyways. The story could have still worked and kept kind of real. Whole leap was unwanted and unrealistic. They are just forcing things on viewers.
