DEV's POV

I was sitting in my veranda, when eli made her way, and took her seat in the regular spot and I looked around to see vik standing at the door and eli began "dev tu theek hai na?? Sonakshi kaisi hai.." her voice was soft laced with concern...

i swallowed the lump in my throat and said "dr bose is out of danger!!"

we were silent, when I felt a hand at my shoulder and I grabbed it... "tu theek nahi hai dev!! Humein nahi bataega??" vik said

i hung my head and admitted "mujhe kuch hota hai, jab mai use dekhta hoon toh... pata nahi kya kehte hai isse, but mujhe aisa lagta hai, mai nahi jee paunga uske bina... vik woh meri kamzoori banti ja rahi hai... lekin mai itna selfish nahi bana chahta... mai use apni zindigi ka hissa nahi bana chahta..."

and before I could continue eli butt in and said "chup kar... kamzoori nahi woh teri... or kyu nahi bana chahta tu usse apni zindigi ka hissa!!"

i stayed quiet and vik said "isse pyaar kehte hai.. mai yeh nahi kahunga, ki woh teri kamzoori hai, ya teri takat.. woh tera prespective hai.. lekin yaad rakh, pyaar se bhaagna aasan nahi hota, jitna bhaage ga utna hi pachtaega!! Jitni jaldi accept krega, utni jaldi koi sahi faisla le paega!! Or yaad rakhna, pyaar sirf tera nahi hai.. kya pata uss ladki ko bhi tere liye kuch feel hota ho... iss liye kuch bhi kar ne se pehle ek baar soch lena... pyaar se zyada dard, pyaar ko kho dene se hota hai... tu toh shayad jhel le magar woh nahi kar paegi!!" saying this they both got up, and eli bent down to give me a peck on my cheeks, and left me under the stars, blaming the affinity for condemning my sonakshi's life to this mess!! Ironically no matter how much I tried, my heart kept calling her mine!!

I could not sleep the whole night and I kept thinking about what should I do... I woke up at 5 and went for a long run trying to clear my thoughts of the image of the frail girl lying in a hospital bed, but I just could not get it out of my head...

I drove to the hospital feeling nervous!! For the first time in my life, I was completely clueless!! I carried the flowers that I had hand picked for sonakshi!! I had heard, about her waking up, and gaining some consciousness, I had asked bunty to keep a close watch on sonakshi, and give me an report of how she was doing... it had been a week since she had been admitted, I had come the next day but all through my visit she was unconscious and did not wake up... the only change in the scenario was the addition of the worried bose family... I had met them and they were really grateful to me for saving their daughters life, but little did they know, I had just done myself a favor... I played along, stayed for only an hour and then I had left!!! Now walking I was sure she would be surrounded by her family, but I just wanted to meet her, hear her say something... look at me with the same oddly, curious deep brown eyes, like she had the first time I had invited her to coffee... I entered the general ward section and came across bunty!!! " kaisi hai woh" he looked stunned and said

" bhabhi, theek hai abhi mil kar aa raha hoon unse!!!" I rolled my eyes and gave him an exasperated expression!! Seriously bhabhi!!!! He just scoffed gave me the direction to the room and seeing the flowers in my hand gave me a wink and left!!! I took a deep breath and made my way towards the room...

i opened the door and the sight took my breath away!!! She was reclining on the bed and as soon as she saw me, she flashed a brilliant smile and extended her hands, as if welcoming me... " hi SP sir" she squealed... the way she acknowledged me, I was awestruck... I just gulped in, and pointed in the direction of her parents, who were looking at me, as if I was some alien who was just transported to earth... I looked down and checked my appearance, just in case, I had forgotten my pants in my hurry to see sonakshi!! But that was not the case, I sighed in relief when they acknowledged me and went back to their previous occupations!! I reluctantly made my way to where she was lying, smiling and waiting for me to make a move, to make a fool of myself!! I gave her the flowers and she took them smelled and kept them aside and said " thank you, agar aap nahi hote toh mai yahan nahi hoti..." I flinched, when the scene unfolded, yes, if it was not for me she would not have been here!! This was my mistake!! It was as if she read my mind, she quickly amended the statement and said " mere kehne ka matlab hai, mai zinda iss hospital mein nahi hoti... "

i inhaled and exhaled to calm my over worked heart, smiled and said "get well soon dr bose" aware of the audience behind me, I could not afford to make a mistake!! I turned around and faced sonakshi's father and asked him... " sir aap kahan ruke hai??"

he snapped his head up and said " sona ke ghar!!" I knew this piece of information... last night when I was walking back home, I had deliberately bumped into nikita, to uncover the details I was unaware of!! She had told me how worried uncle and aunty were, as they didn't have a place to crash and what with the doctor incharge of the situation, had urged them to take sona home!!!

I mentally prepared myself of what I had to say next!! " agar aap chahe toh sona ko leker aap log mere ghar mein reh sakte hai... isse pehle ki aap kuch bhi bole sir... mai bachelor hoon, but mera ghar bahut bada hai... and moreover dr bose, ke chote se ghar mein aap manage nahi kar paenge!! And moreover I still feel guilty, about what happened, this will tell me you forgive me..." I could see the shock on their faces!!! These words out of a cop!!! Yesterday if someone would have asked me to say the words I would have laughed, and shooed them away but now oh, no dear!!! When I had narrated what had happened, in the hospital the last time I had stepped in here... how, I was not even allowed to say a word, and sonakshi was kept out of my reach... eli had gone all offensive and the husband wife duo had come up with an amazing plan to counter the boses!!! They had made me mug up each and every word of this speech!! Gosh!! how did I even do it?? The words still felt foreign as they rolled off my tongue but I could see the effect of my words on the couple!!!

Where one suddenly started seething, the other turned soft!!! "lekin dev babu aap kahan rahoge??" asha mam said her voice soft, and with a tinge of motherly affection...

"mam actually, mere ghar ke samne hi mera friend rehta hai, toh mai wahin shift ho jaunga!! And vaise bhi abhi sabki priority sonakshi ki recovery hai... toh I dont think ki uske sath koi chances lene chahiye!!!" I felt sonakshi stiffen behind me and I realised the last words were not planned!!!

I was mentally rebuking myself and waiting for bijoy Bose to realise my slip and kick me out, but instead he returned to his newspaper, and asha mam said "dev babu, hum aapko koi bhi inconvenience cause nahi karna chahte!!!"

I got up and said "aisa kuch nahi hai... I am always happy to help!!" giving her a small smile, I stood up and turned to face sonakshi... she was looking at me with those deep brown orbs and I waved and said "byee" she reciprocated with another one of her gorgeous smiles!!! I knew my words had hit the bullseye and the result would be satisfactory!!!

As I got up to leave a man in his late twenties, entered the room wearing his white coat!! "hiii neil!!" sonakshi squealed... and I saw him, enter the room acknowledge me, and move directly towards sonakshi and picked up her charts and started speaking something that was remotely close to a biology textbook... I saw him sit comfortably beside her and saw how her father was really happy to see him in the room... it took all my efforts, to not smash my knuckles in his face, right out of irritation, and walk out of the room towards my office!!

I looked at my laptop and verified the results ria had dropped by... I stood up and made my way to the labs down in the first basement!!! I opened the door and found ayaan and ria working together on a dead body!! The sight we had gotten used to, over the span of our service!!! Ranveer still never stepped down.. well a techie could never get used to this!!! "Ahem ahem" I cleared my throat to make my presence known!!!

Ria looked up smiled and said "kya hua reports toh maine aaj subha hi bhej di thi... kuch problem hai??"

I inhaled, the air thick with the smell of disinfectants... " yeh sab results kab ke hai??"

"2 weeks pehle ke??... kyu??" she replied

"actually.. I wanted you, to send me a comparison chart of the drugs we confiscated from khushal and I need a tabulated result matching the samples we have collected so far let's see if we have hit the bullseye or not!!"

"or agar match nahi mila toh??" ayaan piped in..

"matlab humara mission pura nahi hua!!" I sighed and said

"theek hai but mujhe thoda time lagega!!" ria said raising her hands palms facing me

"kitna??" I asked her out of habit..

"excuse me!!! How can you even ask me kitna... tu kabhi ranveer se toh nahi puchta use kitna time lagega... mere peeche kyu pada hai??" before ayaan could add fuel to the fire I apologised and left the room!! Better be safe than sorry!!

I drove home... it was Friday, and every Friday night was drinking night.. so I pulled out a bottle of beer from the keg and bee lined for my favourite spot in the balcony.. as I took a sip from the bottle, vik made his way to his regular spot.. I was surprised to see eli missing from the scene.. usually when we drank she sat down with us, to monitor the progress, "eli kahan hai?" I asked him..

"mat puch!!" he sighed and shook his head!! I just raised my eyebrows titled my head and smirked!! He looked at me and said "wait till you have a wife!! I can't wait!!" and before I could utter another syllable eli made her way to the balcony and handed us a plate of steaming hot grilled pineapple!!

"maine aaj nayi recipe try ki hai.. bata kaisi hi??" she said excited form her yet another successful attempt at cooking something new!! I smiled and took the plate out from her hands and put it down on the coffee table!! "aacha sonakshi ke case mein baat kahan tak pahunchi??" she asked me..

i looked at her taking a bite out of the pineapple.. "i think tumhari speech ne apna kamal dikha dia!!"

they fist pumped in the air and said "yesss mujhe pata tha it will work!!"

"han lekin sonakshi ke baba bahut weird tarike se mujhe dekh rahe the!!" I said

"shayad use tere yeh sab karne ki motivation ka idea ho gaya hai!!" vik said, taking a swig from his drink!!

Eli looked at him said "shakal aachi nahi hoti naah, toh baatein aachi karni chahiye!!" I laughed at their crazy antics...

vik looked really taken aback and offended!! "ohhhoho ab meri shakal aachi nahi hai!! Bhulo mat issi shakal se tumhe pyaar hua tha!! Or issi shakal se tumne shaadi ki thi!!"

"pachta rahi hoon!!" she said getting up and stomping her way out!!

I nudged vik and said "isse pehle ki teri biwi, apne kissi relative ke ghar permanently shift ho jaye usse rok le... kyuki tujhe farak pade ya naah pade mujhe bahut padta hai... after all mera khana ussike kitchen se aata hai!!"

vik gave me an exasperated expression and said "har*mi hai tu!!" saying this he got up and left!! being alone didn't help, like I thought it would!! My thoughts kept going back and replaying the scenes from the hospitals sonakshi's smile when she saw me and her reaction when she saw neil!! I could not put my finger on what was bothering me more, that neil was my completion, or that I was even considering neil a competition at all... and what was I competing for?? Her affections, her time, her attention?? Or all three of them?? I was clueless for the first time in the history of existence I was clueless, about what was happening around me!! I closed my eyes and decided, I would not think about these things.. a life with her was something, I could never have... but then images of her walking up to an altar started spinning in my head and the immense desire to burn down the altar took me and I opened my eyes!! I shook my head and pressed the cool bottle to my temple!! There was no coming out of this situation!!

hello people!!! i have been having some terriblle couple of days hence i was not active on the forum!!! but as they say alls well that ends well.. i am back with an update!!!
