DEV's POV
We successfully managed to convince the boses to move their bases at my place!! So a week ago they shifted to my place.. and I was kicked out of my own house, by none one other than, bijoy Bose, but I had happily moved in with the fabulous, openly inviting, husband and wife duo!! Meanwhile sonakshi had occupied the main master bedroom, where her parents had taken to the guest room near the main room... this was the only thing, I was grateful about!! A part of my heart leapt at the thought, that she was housed in my room.. and the other part felt highly nostalgic about how selfish I was turning into!! With this setting, I got to spend the designated half hour by her bedside... this had become my routine, speaking to her about her day, explaining to her about the complications of my work... I made it a point to get back home early so that I could spend that time with her... in the past week I had successfully managed to piss the girl's father!! He mainly avoided me, but her mother was happy to see me there and obliged me with a cup of coffee... a knock on my door pulled me out of my reverie!! "tu sonakshi se milne ja raha hai??" vik asked peeping in the room
"han..." I replied slowly, not sure if I should elaborate or not!!
"dekh, humein tujhese kuch bahut zaroori baat karni hai.. or tere use milne se pehle karni hai!!" he said stressing on the words humein and baat!!
And without giving me the optimal choice eli barged in and made herself, comfortable on the couch!! "lemme get this straight...!!" she, paused her expression that of somewhere between determination and wavering!! I kept eyeing them and waiting for them to say something "woh, sona ke papa tujhe pasand nahi karte.. and tere rival mein guess krega kon hai??" I was still reeling from the words, I knew he did not like me.. but having this specified really didn't help!! I knew the answer but I decided to play along and shrugged my shoulders, raising my hands "some dr neil lakotia... according, to hilter baba, woh aacha kamata hai.."
vik butt in.. "toh dev aacha nahi kamata??"
I looked at him and shook my head.."ek minute you guys.. yeh sab mujhse kaise link hota hai, I just don't get it, tum sab sonakshi ko mere sath imagine kr kaise rahe ho?? I mean woh or mai sirf dost hai!! Or yeh toh tu bhi janta hai na vik, ki mai apne doston ke liye kya kar sakta hoon!!!" I fervently hoped my playing this card would distract them from the sonakshi topic, because I could feel my heart beat rising!! My desperation showing, and definitely my impatience and helplessness clear on my face, also the dilemma!! I did not want them worrying for a battle raging inside of me!!
They both stared at me and burst out laughing "please haan!! Rehne de, yeh baat kissi or ke samne bolna humare samne nahi theek hai.." vik said rolling his eyes "dekh dev tu chahta hai ki hum inn sab se bahar rahe toh theek hai.. but atleast khud se juth mat bol.. jitna khud se juth bolega utni hi baat hath se nikalti jaegi!!"
eli said standing up and coming near me, she kept a hand on my face and said "dekh dev, hum teri madad iss liye kar rahe hai.. kyuki humein pata hai, ki tu kiss phase se guzar raha hai.. lekin hum teri help tab tak nahi krenge jab tak tu nahi mangega!! And I know tujhe humari help bahut jald chahiye hogi!!" little did I know her words would come true so soon!!
It had been a month, and by now, I knew most of the superheroes by their names and faces and I also knew what they were capable of... I could even sing along to few of the songs on her most played list... I knew the difference between vampires and werewolves... but this was not the only thing that had changed, my spending time with sonakshi had increased.. we had shifted to the first name basis, or at least I had... she still called me SP sir.. her father's dislike for me was still thick in the air but her mother's liking for me overshadowed it.. often, she would join us and treat me like a son... something, I never experienced.. either, it was because she thought I was a gentleman who saved her daughter's life, or that she had a touch of motherly affection for everybody.. even elina and vik had grown really fond of her... she would often drop by the their apartment and teach elina something new to cook... to say we had grown into a big family in this one month, was probably really close to how things were working... eli had started noticing the cracks in my facade, she kept pushing for more, and a part of me still kept resisting!! It was easy to fall for her, but I was still unsure of how she felt, or if she felt anything at all or not!! I walked home to see a doctor working with sonakshi, and removing her plasters!! She looked at me, with the same brightness in her eyes!! My room was decorated with balloons and get well soon messages from eli and the others, but that was not what caught my eyes, it were the bags that were lying open waiting to be filled, my heart fell, I never thought of what would it be like to finally see her walking away.. when I heard her gasp, I turned around to see the doctor lifting off the plaster off her hand!! And as soon as the case was gone she squealed in joy and her mother hugged her... I smiled from the distance and left...
I walked into my room, to see sonakshi packing her bags and checking for her stuff her mother helping her in moving around!! I cleared my throat and they became aware of my presense!!! "arey dev babu aacha hua aap aa gaye mai bas abhi shona ko help krke aapke pass aane hi wali thi" she smiled at me and sona on the other hand was beaming on me!!
"kyu aunty??" I asked her
"tumne humare liye itna kuch kia hai.. pehle shona ki jaan bachai,phir humein apna ghar de dia, itni help ki shona ko recover hone mein!!" she spoke in a soft voice!!
"nahi aunty maine sirf wahi kia jo mujhe laga sahi hai... " we were silent when she came to me stood infront of me...
"jane se pehle hum tumhe ek treat dena chahte hai.. tumhare favourite rajma chawal, kal raat ko mai bana rahi hoon.. khane pe time pe aa jana!!"she said, it touched me, no one had ever paid attention to the fact that I loved eating rajma chawal.. of course eli knew that, she even cooked for me sometimes but she didn't know how much I liked them.. hearing it from someone who had completely different tastes, it just felt a little nice!!
"han keh dijiye na SP sir.." sonakshi butt in from her bed... she had started walking but her legs still needed rest!!!
I pulled out my files and began searching everything we had on the ahuja bothers.. ever since we had arrested khushal, something had been nagging me, the way he seemed eerily calm and composed something about his stride was off, it was way too confident for a prisoner.. he had been in the custody of the Chandigarh police force since the arrest and was back in my custody yesterday!! I could see his bruised face, but that arrogancy, was still splayed across his features, I was still sitting with my files open when vik walked in and said "kya soch raha hai?"
I looked at him and he sat down "kuch nahi bas ahuja brothers ka record verify kar raha tha!! Kya hua??"
"yeh le" he handed me the files and continued "yeh ria ki reports hai.. actually uski himat nahi ho rahi thi tujhe face karne ki!!"
"kyu" I sat up straight
"yaar, woh uska birthday tha toh ayaan ne uske naam pe 15 din ki leave sanction karwake use kindoff pre wedding trip pe leke gaya tha!! Iss liye ussne reports ready nahi ki thi.. toh finally sari tabulated results aaj aaye hai... tu ek baar go through kar le, phir uss bachi se baat kr le!"
i smiled and shook my head, "theek hai!!"
"aacha vaise sona ja rahi hai.. I mean bhabhi ja rahi hai..." I looked at him in disbelief, all of them had nicknamed sonakshi bhabhi!! They called her that in front of me and it infuriated me to no bounds!!
"what is this.. you guys are acting like teenagers man!!" I said clearly not in a mood to hide my irritation..
he just smirked and said "kuch socha hai, ya nahi!!"
"tu ja mai busy hoon!!" I snapped at him and buried myself in the test results!! He just laughed and walked off!!
I had gone through the results carefully, and entered the IT room "ranveer" I called...
he snapped from whatever the hell he was doing and said "han bhai bol"
"humne jo tracker sabhi drug stations pe fit kiye the, woh unke sare transactions measure karne ke liye the right??" he nodded and looked at me seriously.. "pata karke bata sakta hai pichle ek mahine mein jitney bhi transactions hue hai unka base kya hai??" I told him
"theek hai raat tak mai file compose kar lunga.. vaise kuch mila hai kya?? Mission khatam nahi hua??" he spoke in a serene tone!!
I sat down and said "dekh humein jitney bhi samples mile hai woh sab alag hai.. in fact, jo samples ki file ria ne banai hai, uss hisaab se ek bhi drug dusre se match nahi krta.. its like they are all working with one another, like they have divided the market.. ki, itna isske portion main hai.. like drug A, dealer A sell kar raha hai, and drug B, dealer B sell kar raha hai.. aam tor pe aisa nahi hota!! Aapas mein competition hota hai.. koi bahut clever master mind hai jissne market mein se enimity kuch zyada hi clearly saaf kar di hai!!"
he nodded his head in response and said .."dev yeh huamri duty hai... or mujhe pura yakeen hai ki hum bahut jald result paenge!!" I got up and left it was ria meeting time!!
i opened the laboratory door and found ria bent on a microscope and noting the reactions.. when she saw me, she flustered a bit kept her slides down, and made her way out of the counter!! "hi there" she smiled
i smiled back and asked "chuti kaisi rahi??"
she gulped and said " I am sorry!! Mujhe sach mein nahi pata tha.. varna mai prakash ko yeh kaam deke jati!!"
i placed my arm around her shoulder and calmed her down!! " relax!! Koi baat nahi, der se hi sahi mujhe mere sabse trusted lab genius ne reports dedi!! Its okay!!"
she visibly relaxed and motioned me to sit on the stool.. just then vik came in "mujhe ranveer ne teri theory samjhai.. yeh sab kya ho raha hai... and why am I always the last one to know!!" he stopped in tracks and acknowledged ria with a side hug!!
"mujhe nahi pata iski theory ke bare mein!!" she piped in
"wow I am second last!!" he said with a smirk..
i smacked his shoulder and said "feeling better"
he scoffed and began "yahan kya kar raha hai vaise??"
"mujhe aisa lag raha hai ki khushal humse kuch chupa raha hai, kuch aisa jo humare samne hai, but hum dekh nahi pa rahe!! Toh uske liye humein grass root level se start karna padega .. and iss case mein root level drugs hai!! Ria, teri compiled report vakei kaffi detailed hai, thanks for that, and han ab tujhe woh sare samples test karne hai jo humne uss building se confisticate kiye the!!" I said...
"actually dev, mai unhi samples ki testing kar rahi thi!!" she said in the all doctorly manner!!
"okay" I said getting up and nodding and walking towards the exit, I could not be late for the dinner at my place!!
Eli knocked on my door, by this time I had already changed into a nice pair of shirt and pants... she smiled as she walked in said "dekh ek last cheez batane aai hoon... woh uncle jo hai na, unhe tera profession bilkul pasand nahi hai, toh.. it will be fair to say ki woh kuch ulta toh definitely bolenge!!"
I nodded and confidently said "don't worry I won't make a fool of myself!!" I winked and left..
